1. Anyone know if they make any of the LVC in 31 tagged waists? My 31x34 tagged 47's fit really good. The only place i've seen anything in 31 waists were the 47's I bought during the $99 sale on Levis.com

Cultizm has the 1967 505s in a tagged 31" waist: http://www.cultizm.com/product_info.php?info=p80_Levi-acute-s-reg--BIG-E-1967-505xx-JEANS-DRY-GOODS-LVC.html and my experience is they are slightly undersized so a tagged 31 might = 30.5 (ish)....

For instance, the pale lemon stitching is highly prized in Japan...
Is this the same color as the 33s? For whatever reason I just love the 33 stitching color.
  2. Yeah I don't know who the target market for a $500+ pair of jeans is. This is a mix of 'modern interpretation' with something that is classic and timeless, and sometimes that works well - other times it doesn't. Again, I am just wondering who the target market for a piece like this is.... Overall it was still really fun to look at.

If I had $600 to spend today, personally I would rather get 3 pairs of raw LVC than one super expensive pair.

  3. I saw this too, it looked lovely. I'd admit to being reluctant to shell out on it, even if I had $590, as I think it's made in Turkey; but the fabric and finish are excellent and it somehow looks just right. Maybe not quite up to the level of the original Nevada and Indigo Immortal, but close.

Agree the fabric did look excellent as did the shade and color overall - looked like actual time was spent making it unique. After thinking about it for a day or two the sticker shock has worn off a bit. I haven't seen the original Nevada or the Indigo Immortal but I could see why someone would pay a bit more for a nicely detailed and limited release of a jean like this one.

I am heading back to that store in the next few days to take another look at everything and I am going to double check the tags to see where it was made. Got caught up in looking at everything I forgot some of the basics i.e. checking the inside tag, which I will on this and also the 1920s Chino as well.

EDIT: The 1933 is called the Tow Roll - Made in Turkey.

  4. Unionmade has the chinos. They look really good. Great color.

I got to see the Chinos yesterday at Union Made and I agree - they do look really good. About an hour after I got home I started kicking myself in the leg for not having gotten a pair, think they would be killer for summer.

Chinos look good but I'm a little worried they'll be too full cut; anyone who can provide a comparison between them and a different LVC model?

Didn't get a chance to try them on, although I did notice that the bottom hem looked like they had a tapered leg - but it might just have been that they were rolled at cuffed, but it was one of the first things I noticed about them.

I also got to see the pre-distressed 1933 model roy6 mentioned, they are the type of distressed with sewn on pieces of fabric and square stitching patterns in different parts of the legs. They were retailing for $450.

There was also one pair of 1880 or 1890 sorry I didn't write it down "nevada" pre-distressed jean that was $595 retail. As with the 1933 distressing same square cut pieces of fabric etc. The watch pocket was not selvage - but I don't know whether on the Nevada it should be. The one other thing that stuck out to me was the bottom hem on them looked different, much wider between the stitching and the bottom of the leg than I like on jeans. This sounds picky - but $595 is $595.

Apparently the owner of the Union Made store is very good friends with someone who designs for LVC or now XX so hopefully this store will continue to get in more good stuff. They also had 3 or 4 vintage Levi's jackets, one of them selling for $1,150 and then a small but varied selection of shirts, jackets, and the white t-shirts. Having never seen the stuff in real life I was pretty stoked to see it.

  5. Just so happens I just stopped into Unionmade in SF and they had their new batch of LVC in, including that jacket. It was $900 something, I think. It runs a size large- I usually wear a medium and the small fit me quite comfortably.

They also had the rusty Bay Meadows T, the sunset shirt, and 1915s, '47s, '66s and an interesting destroyed & repaired '33.

    Thank you for that info!

I called over to the store and asked about some available sizes and what was in stock. The person I spoke to said that also have some old original Levi's Jackets that aren't LVC which sounded interesting. Hopefully I will make it into the city tomorrow even though I already know they don't have the 1915 size I was looking for I'd still like to look at everything.

  6. I would like the waist to be pretty snug, but I don't want to have to wear them tight for a month so they'll stretch out. I'm thinking about going true to size (tagged 32, measures 34). Is that recommended?

I would go with the tagged 32 and you can attempt to control some of the shrinking if you are worried about them being too small. If you get a tagged 34 true 36, even with boiling soaks you might not reach your desired 32"

  7. Eager to have a quantity of Lvc to last the rest of my life, I went on a shopping spree, buying two or three pairs a year, ensuring not only did I have enough Lvc for said reason, but also a little mini-visual history to satisfy my obvious geekism.

I totally relate to this feeling. When I see pictures of other member's jean collection laid out in photos I start thinking about putting together a collection myself.

For me personally the LVC and the repro jeans can serve two purposes, the first of course to be worn and then secondly to be collected, which makes it really easy for someone like me to justify the purchases of new jeans. Right now I only own 2 pairs of selvage jeans, the 67 505s and the 33s, but daily get the urge to order more jeans which I am sure I will end up doing.... just my $0.02

  8. Kinda random question: with Spring and Summer approaching I have been thinking about summer denim and shorts actually. I know that LVC put out the Vintage Knappave 1880'S Celebration Pack which came with cut-offs that could be worn as shorts. Have there been other LVC releases like that which could have been used as shorts or was that a one time thing?

  9. I like the idea that some people wearing the jeans might not be really into denim (initially) and therefor are just wearing them to see what happens without a clear objective of super intense fades and combs, etc - kind of a litmus test for what the general jean wearing public would treat the jeans like - and how they evolve and discover their own likes and/or dislikes for raw denim. I guess I'd like to see what someone like my dad, co-worker, dude at 7-11, etc would end up with if he wore raw denim for the next year type of thing....

It looks like they chose a variety of brands, made in USA, made in Japan, small companies, larger companies, sanforized and unsanforized, and hopefully they will chose a variety of fits as well and not just super slim fits. LVC would have been nice to include.

    Stoked to see what happens!

  10. the 44s are nice. mine are a 36/36, which measured just slightly over 38" pre-soak. following two boiling soaks they were down to 34.8". for reference, i'm 6'2" 188-195lbs. shitty pic, i know, but to give you an idea

Fit looks good on those, def towards the style that I looking for. That actually seems like a good deal of shrinkage on the waist. Ideally I'd love to find some models with a 38" inseam as I'd like to have some extra length to cuff with. Did you loose a lot of length on your 44s as well?

  11. These are some fit picks of the 1933 Rider's Run jeans that I picked up on sale last week. I have only been wearing skinny jeans for the past 4 years so these feel really loose. I want to start wearing more traditional straight leg cuts, I am wondering whether a 55 or a 44 raw would be a good place to go from here as I already have a pair of the 67 505s which are on the slim side.... wondering what others thought of the fit of these 33s?

  12. You all probably know that Farinelli's is now carrying LVC. I noticed that the 1947s that they are carrying have brown arcruates not the typical golden color. Does anyone know why that is?

It looks like they might have used the same picture for the 47s as they did for the 44s accidentally??? My screen here is so small I might be totally wrong though

  13. After wearing my 67s I swore I would only wear raw LVC from that point on but last week when I saw a pretty great deal on these washed 1933 Rider's Run jeans on oki-ni I went ahead and sprang for them. I've never ordered a predistressed/washed pair before since I read mixed reviews about what people thought of them.

I have to say I am generally impressed with the fit, the details: patch, the National Recovery Act tag, etc. and it makes me want to order soooo many other raw LVC models now. I can only imagine how amazing it would have been to break these in myself....

I snapped some photos, and I think for the summer these will be awesome - they are light, loose, and will look great cuffed high with a white t-shirt. I know it won't be the same as if I had broken them in myself but I am still stoked to be wearing a classic looking pair of jeans!

  14. @runnormal- man your pair is coming along very nicely, fadings pretty progressive for 2 months

Thanks, yeah I am really stoked with how they are coming along! I have been helping to move a back office and I think that has given them a decent beating over the past few weeks, lol. And in all fairness the light/camera makes the contrast look a bit more pronounced than they look under gray rainy skies like this morning...

  15. I was able to use a nice camera today and there is some good light coming through the windows.

    Back of the jeans:

Close up on back pocket - I like how the tag fade is coming along!

    feb_lvc4.jpg

The top of the zipper is getting some wear, this photo makes it look much brighter and pronounced than it actually is but I liked the photo

and finally no real fading on the combs yet, but I think they will come along nicely with some more time

  16. I noticed that Cultizm has the 1920 201 available for order now, and the description says "Measurements: runs one inch smaller than tagged size, e.g. 32 is measured 31 inch." which is interesting... http://www.cultizm.com/product_info.php?info=p126_Levi-acute-s-reg--1920-201-JEAN-RIGID.html

Does someone know if the 1920 201 from cultizm the same cut that is referred to the 1922 201 from "Paul T's 501 Visual Guide thread?" If so that would mean that the sizing has changed - or are these different jeans 1920 and 1922?

  17. how much have these stretched?

Starting waist was about 31.25" and they have stretched about 1.75". I do keep them belted tightly which may have kept them from stretching more - and overall I am really happy about how they have stayed well fitting/snug around the waist.

  18. damn...I hate how slow this thread is running! Let's see more documentation everyone!

Snapped some quick cell phone picks at work...

Starting to see some vertical lines appearing on the thigh areas:

and here are some fit picks of them... 1967 505s!!!!

quick PS: I LOVE the fit on these now - the higher rise is fantastic at work, every time I lean over my ass isn't hanging out, etc. But I must also say that sometimes I wish I went with a more "vintage" style cut - like aho's or jpsmith or medine etc.... I am debating picking up a non-contest pair of something looser/baggier, etc..... just a quick aside there.

  19. ^^ I agree, I was stoked to see Self Edge in the Chronicle and posted the link ... I wasn't really thinking so much about the content as much as that it featured the store and Kiya was interviewed, etc. Maybe I should have posted it elsewhere ....

I am super stoked about the Jungle Cloth jeans and Saturday.
