  1. Pics please…… Sounds like your local cobbler would've done a better job. Hope they comped you.

Will take pics tomorrow before I take them back and see if the guy is working there instead of the old lady so I can try and explain the difference between what I asked for in writing and what they ended up with. I had to pay when I dropped them off :( I just did a search and see they put on the same soles that are on the Chippewa Odessa Engineer boot :(

I've searched for local boot repair shops and came up short so thats why I thought I'd go with something I "thought" would work.

Edit: I should have known better when I asked if I could get them resoled like GTs on the wall and he said "Like those European shoes? No those are only for Europe. " Lol?

  2. I made the horrible mistake of taking my 2 year old 2970s in to the closest Redwing store to have them resoled since the white wedge was worn to about nothing. I gave the old fart running the place 3 options out of their 1/2 page worth of resole options. Black nitril cork, brown cork or black wedge. Picked them up yesterday and they put plain old boring vibram soles and heel on. I wanted to go off on the old lady working there about givning three options and got something I didn't ask or OR want but it wasn't her fault. I'm so muthafucking pissed, but lesson learned. Now they just look like plain old boots. Ugh.

  3. anybody have any ideas on how these were sized or soaked?

    Badly.

But that's coming from someone who puts suspender buttons on anything and everything.

And to think, I WISH my Levis would quit sagging on my old man/Hank Hill ass. I guess I should just roll with it and tell my wife to quite laughing :)

I kid, but just barely... my Levis want to sag all the time, but to intentionally do it is like... putting spinners on a Humvee, doesn't make any sense.

  4. ^I thought the same thing. That coat is sick but alas my budget will not stretch that far until next year.

If I still lived in Chicago and had more jacket weather I'd seriously consider it but damn... 3 months a year max leather jacket weather in Florida doesn't cut it :(

  5. I just found out that Lofgren carries Freewheelers/Bootleggers Reunion stuff. He is real easy to communicate with and takes paypal. No google translate or nothin.

    http://item.rakuten.co.jp/speedway-shop/c/0000000523/

He is pretty easy to work with and he may be open to special orders as well. I haven't tried, although I may in the future.

I just had a minor stroke when I saw the Horsehide Brakeman Coat. Been dreaming about a coat like that and never knew there actually was one.

  6. Anyone have any experience with Warby Parker? I was waiting for them to get their try-on pairs back, but I figure I might just take the plunge sight unseen.

I hope I'm not too late to stop you but don't do it. I waited for the home try-on and it was worth it. There were quite a few I liked but only 1-2 looked right on my face. If I had just bought the pair I liked it would have been a huge mistake.

I gotta say I have never in my life had better customer service from my initial emailed questions through final delivery. They will help you any way they can.

  7. Thanks to everyone who helped with the info on the vest, I've been wearing it daily to ride to and from work and I just love it.

I got a chuckle from the bag it was sent in within the box... a shopping bag made like an old feedbag... awesome concept. I'd opened hundreds of bags like that over the years back home and it was a nice touch that immediately brought back a flood of memories. Very cool.

For duck, it feels a little light and I was hoping it would have been heavier but now after wearing it a couple of weeks in the heat it feels just right and really is heavy enough. Any heavier and it wouldn't drape I guess. The construction is really well done and the inner herringbone material is pretty nice.

This will get a lot of use especially since it can be worn year 'round... great purchase.

  8. ...

This brings up a question that is, as far as I know, still unanswered: what specifically is the chinstrap supposed to do? Make really, REALLY sure the top button doesn't come undone? I guess maybe if you have a super-thick workingman's neck then this could be important?

Maybe it's just supposed to look cool?

    It's a functional period element.

If you look at a lot of photos of the period you'll see a lot of men wore their shirts buttoned all the way up and tucked in, even out in the fields in the summer. Why? Maybe it was the style back that even though you were doing manual labor you should still be as neat and presentable as you possibly could, and the strap would let you button yet keep it loose OR if you did have wider shoulders you could still button it. Just a guess. I button mine in the winter when I have a couple of layers underneath and you can't button it normally.

Quite a few pics in here of men at the time buttoning all the way up. No chinstraps to be seen though. You can also just do a google search of 1920s farmer or something similar. Surely there are people in here who can answer this.

  9. I saw the indigo for $275, i'll check the price for duck.

Well considering I just purchased the brown duck vest yesterday over the phone for $225 + tax and shipping, I'm assuming the price is $225 :) I doubt I got deal... and I hope they didn't up the price on me :)

  10. Did you pick up the blue or brown duck. Both are nice. I saw some beat up ones at the party.

Also, what was the price on those vests $200, $300?

For those interested, Rising Sun does have other duck pants that are pretty nice looking as well that are not exact repros of a specific pant. They are $300 and I believe they are all single stitched as well, but don't quote me on that.

I bought the brown duck version. The Indigo one looks sweet but I'd guess over half my wardrobe is some sort of blue :( As much as I wanted it, the brown is more what I actually need. Also based on the sizes and measurements they sent me, the brown should fit better. According to the info they sent, the indigo is a tad too small.

"The indigo is 20 inches across the torso on top and 19.5 across the torso on bottom. From the middle neck to bottom of the vest on the back is 23.5 inches.

The duck vest is 20.5 across the torso on top and 20 inches across the torso on the bottom. From the middle neck to bottom of the vest on back is 23 inches."

It cost me $250 shipped. Way more than I wanted to spend but here in Florida I can wear it all year round to ride with, I really like it and it should last forever. When I told my wife I was getting a "riding" vest she asked "a Harley vest? Why?" Lol... not quite :) I still haven't told her what it cost :(

  11. Height: 5'7"

    Weight: 170 lbs

    Waist: 32 in.

Thanks, I just called and ordered the med duck vest. Hope it fits. I'm 5'10" 180 but a 33 waist and only 39/40 chest. I'll be using it as a daily riding vest so it'll get filthy and washed regularly. Hope washing won't be an issue. Know if it it'll shrink much?

  12. so what's the deal with Levi's "Workwear" line... I see they're selling a 201.

What am I NOT getting if I buy a pair of them as opposed to the LVC line?

You're not getting anything with more than a 32 inseam from the sizes on the website. I would buy a pair if they had anything longer.

  13. I don't suppose there are any LVC stockists in the Orlando area I can visit anyone know of?

I've seen some at Barney's Co-op outlet at the factory stores down by Disney. There are two big outlet malls but only the southern stores have the Barneys. Don't remember what they had since I just looked at the sizes in the stack and they were all smaller than 33 waist so I just walked away.

  14. Spent 3 days up in bikeweek wearing my IH634s. Kept the legs pretty warm in some cold weather for Florida. At night it was damn cold but they killed the wind really well.

I've tried suggesting them a couple times to folks I know who ride and they are interested up until they hear the price, lol.

Also thought I might see some decent denim and maybe some IHs in the custom lots but nope... nothing.

    Pics here

Only a couple pics of the denim though. Typical looking IHs so nothing special. Just using them as intended.

  15. I have to show that to my wife. She flipped the fug out last weekend when was wearing my 634s to help my pop change a rear break cylinder in his truck. "Why are you wearing your "good" jeans to work on the truck? You'll get them dirty." I started to explain, but realized it would be a waste of breath :) "You're right dear. What was I thinking?"
