  1. @ mike & b_F- 17 degrees is a cold winter's day here, it's usually warmer than that even during winter. this last summer i even struggled with 14oz :P i was half-thinking of grabbing the s710, but it might only get dragged out for a few months a year at that weight (and i know the s0500 is lighter but i don't wanna double up on the texas cotton).

  2. i've noticed a lot of higher prices for fh models around lately too- maybe it's just new stock with a new price rise? just a suggestion, i don't know anything for certain.

  3. just got an japan archives 1936 101b arrive in the mail, it's apparently a sample from edwin, so there were no real tags attached besides the basic care warning tags- all in japanese, so i don't understand a word anyway. no quite a full package, but they only set me back 100 bucks brand new, so i won't complain :D

i'll post pics tomorrow, too damn tired right now, but i just want to get a straw poll from those with experience with the edwin-mades- soak or not? they're apparently sanforised, but they're still pretty damn big- this is a size 28 and it's roughly the size of my LVC 1937 in size 32, with the inseam sitting at around 38 inches. any advice?

  4. to all the yanks complaining about prices- your dollar is at a 15-year-low against the yen right now, although i can sympathise- this time last year, the australian dollar was worth about 40% less against the yen compared to now- currency markets have a tendency to fluctuate wildly.

  5. Could someone (Paul T most likely) what is the slimmest cut of lvc from 1901-33? Thanks

i don't think i'd be looking pre-40s for a slim fit, as far as i know they're all very much of a muchness- i.e. wide. like roy6 says, to get that slim fit you'd really need to size down hard.

  6. well it was in the 80s

    yeah, i can relate...

  7. i saw LVC in one of the big department stores on Pitt St about 2 years back (DJ or MYERS, i don't know which ones are there), but that was around the 400 mark. there are a few other places around apparently, but i don't spend much time in sydney these days, so don't really know, sorry.

the online sale is just a 10% off at superdenim.co.uk (SALE10) specifically on LVC for this weekend only, but i suspect that cultizm or ASOS are probably still even cheaper. i haven't double-checked that, since i'm not in the market for more LVC right now, but i can guarantee that any of those three will be much cheaper than buying it retail her in AUS. plus cultizm and superdenim will do VAT-deductions for aussies, so there's an extra ~20% off.

  8. LVC has always retailed around the $400 AUD mark here in australia. all my LVC were snaffled on european sites for less than half that- i think my 1937 was less than 100 on sale at ASOS.

at least we can look forward to some heavy discounting once the arse has fallen out of the LVC market due to overpricing- and i do notice that a certain online retailer has an LVC-specific coupon-sale on this weekend.

  9. sigh. yeah, i figured that ;)

it's just a 2nd-hand dealer on rakuten called Kind-U, mostly they carry nothing much of interest, but they do have some nice pre-loved denims- although guys with long legs will be disappointed, since a lot of them are hemmed ridiculously short.

i wouldn't expect to see a deal like this again, it's very much a one-off- but here's the link, anyway:

  10. sure mate post the rest , great pickup

made even sweeter by the price- 15000 yen shipped to australia... for some reason they turned up new with tags on one of the 2nd-hand dealers on rakuten, i thought they might've been one-wash for that price, but they were still completely raw and unsoaked.

    anyway, more pics...

didn't really know what to expect with these, but i'm pretty happy with how they turned out.

  11. these came in the mail the other day- definitely not a fit you see around here everyday, they're the S2000RR- ltd ed texas cotton S3000 cut, i.e. WWII repro. Personally, I'm very happy with the fit, it's a nice solid vintage fit without a lot of the hip- and arse-flare that i was expecting, although probably not by any means a sufu standard fit. i went tts, and these pics are all post-soak-

this is after one hot soak, and there's probably some shrink left in them, but the weather here is shitty and wintery and i'm happy with this fit, so i'm just gonna run them like this.

no arcs, but red tab with inverted-A, numbered ltd-ed flasher, hidden rear-pocket rivets, rivet-less coin-pocket, texas cotton etc. i've got more photos but don't want to shit up the thread if no-one's interested in anything more.

edit- laurel-wreath donut buttons as well.

  12. haha, yeah sorry about that- i just assumed they wouldn't be sanforised, especially since that japanese link you sent me said they were shrink-to -tagged size.

better safe than sorry, tho, so it's worth asking around and checking for sure :D

  13. anyone here have any experiences with the Lee 101z gold label (made in Poland). They are 50% off at the local Lee-store but Cultizm was selling them even cheaper than that.

fit wise they looked pretty good, I tried on a size 28 which probably measured about 29-29.5". Legs were surprisingly slim.

i have them, one of my favourites, actually- excellent value for money. midweight lht blue selvage with a hair-on patch (and a nice one at that, too), reasonably high amount of slub, deep reinforced (and normally placed) back-pockets and a really nice looking jean- if you want a really slim fit, size down one, because they're 1 size oversized, and they won't shrink. i'd almost definitely buy them again, esp at these prices- they're extremely durable and comfortable, just don't buy them looking for high contrast fades in any kind of a hurry, because they're a very slow breaker, but to my mind the slub makes up for that. you won't regret grabbing one, even if it's not a particularly authentic reproduction.

  14. the jin is lee-inspired, right? i'd have thought funny back-pockets might just be a fact of life with lee cuts. but if i'm not wrong, that's a right-hand twill in your photos, although i guess that's just an aspect of the collab.

  15. those lee work jackets are on sale all over rakuten, i noticed them a while back, standard price around 8000 yen (on sale). chinese made tho- the same model was being carried here in australia at one of the larger retail stores (gluestore).

they're alright, i guess- i compared them with my gold series 101j at the time, which is a much better construction, and given some of the antipathy around here for the gold series, that may be a useful comparison. i like the gold series, i have a 101j and the clark as well (did my dash at last years cultizm sale), but they're definitely at the lower end of the leepro scale. compared to most of the utter shit that lee markets here in australia, it's pretty good tho, esp at the sale prices.

  16. I would say I'm jealous dave, but I'm coming home to Oz in like ten days, haha. Not really worried about not being able to wear the jeans every day, I'm more sad that I pretty much won't be able to wear my Red Wings for like 6 months.

nonsense, i just bought two more pairs (8146 and 3140) of redwings in the past fortnight, so i don't think it ever gets too hot to wear boots- harden up, sunshine :D

just kidding mate ;) i will say tho that 14oz denim is another question altogether

alright, this is my two month update- as you can see, very little wear at all because it's summertime, and it's been at least 25+degrees/90%+ humidity every day since december, so i'll be waiting till it cools down some before these get much more loving. i know that puts me at a disadvantage, but this is a long comp, said the tortoise to the hare...

no updates to report, no washings, alterations etc.
