you should try Tandy Leather.
they also have like a beginner / starter tool kit & leather for end customers.
4/5oz for outer shell might be the right size. and 2/3oz for interior construction.

another nice belt from Scott...
how much belts you already own, Mike?

thank you Ray! Yeah, managed to do just a simple billfold with this size. I'm not a big fan of keeping coins in the wallet.
Cold Summer
that Cavalier wallet indeed has an insane price (although it's MTO), the leather also looks rough, well then again it depends on customer's preference.
Anyway, about the threads, I'm using Ramie thread for this one.

will be replacing my old wallet...made from the Hermann Oak saddle leather.
still got little square feet left on that leather so the owner can use it

By the way, have any of you tried making sandals before?
I thought about doing it for an ex girlfriend, but I never got around to doing it. However I recently visited a local cobbler, that also makes sandals - you can read about it here
And I have been thinking about asking him about co-creating a pair of sandals in oil tanned leather with a Vibram mini lug sole attached... Or do you guys have any good ideas?
CMIIW, but I remember someone in here already made couple of sandals...I think it's Eric, not?

indeed the shipping is quite high for our customers in the States / Europe. I usually e-mailed them just to inform why the shipping cost is high. basically, Indonesia has different policy with local EMS. while other countries have 2-3 options of shipping type with EMS (let say 10 - 14 working days from the States to Indonesia cost like $7 - $10), but in Indonesia we only have 1 option which is the Express service (7 - 10 working days to the States and costs like around $20).

I love the fiber/muscle within the outer shell...one of my personal favorite feature in veg-tanned leathers.

???
try to look more clearly on our local forum, i think I already answered your question.
Yes that was what I thought. I bought some "imported" leather from a US supplier when I first started out, which I suspect were sourced from asian countries such as indonesia. I thought they were not bad, but after making my first US tanned leather purchase, I never looked back. The quality is on a whole different level. In fact, the 15 odd sq ft of leftover "imported" leather from my first batch has been just sitting in my room ever since. I just can't seem to make anything with that leather without the bugging feeling that all my workmanship and efforts are gonna go to naught.
Anyway thanks for the heads up on the china supplier. I might take a look, although i'm not specifically looking into shell, but more of horween leather in general. Either way their minimum order seems to large for me.
exactly the same feeling! I also never looked back since the quality of US vegetable tanned is what I'm looking for. I guess the weather, process, chemical, etc are the main ingredients to produce good quality veg-tan.
About horween in general, you might want to contact John horween for assistance, but yeah sometimes he reply quick, but sometimes not. also try Maverick if you're looking for CXL just like Ray told in here.

indeed Indonesia has lots of tanneries, but the quality (as far as I researched like a year ago) of their natural vegetable tanned is still not like what i'm looking for. quality in here like the color of "Natural", the scent of it, and the firmness.
anyway, trying to help about the horween, you might want to try the horween distributor in China (listed on the web), he got several Shell Cordovan if you're looking for it. but the service to be honest is a little bit off. also He usually has MOQ of 5 sheets of shell.

Nicholas,
I've handled chromexcel cowhide once before and it's like very flappy for my liking. How about the horsehide chromexcel? Is it like more stiffer than the cowhide ?

yes, they do ship to US. but the shipping cost might be high due to the dimension of it.
anyway, you can directly e-mail: [email protected]
the newest collection, including Imperial, has not been udpated on their site I guess.
the price is around $205 and they already use goodyear welted construction for this one, maybe that's the reason for increasing price.
they also do MTO if I'm not mistaken (yummmy)
