  1. Why are you asking questions about non-APC jeans on the APC denim thread?

Read the whole thread, man. I started out asking about APC's.

  2. True, I don't even think they have one wash.

Perhaps he was talking about the one wash service that BiG offers?

There are no Samurai one wash jeans. I was just referring to buying a pair of Samurai's vs. buying one wash Warehouse's, PBJ's, etc.

  3. Thanks, guys. If I go with the S0500XX's for instance, should I buy a size 28, 29 or 30 (pre-wash waist measurements of 30,31 and 32, respectively, according to BiG's website)? My Levi's 505's are size 30, but they have an actual waist of 32" (and they're a tiny bit loose at that, so I want to end up with a 31.5" actual waist or so).

And just a general (and probably dumb) question: it sounds like breaking in raw jeans is well worth the effort (vs. buying a one wash pair of jeans). Is that indeed the case?

    Thanks.

  5. CJsmalls,

Wow - thanks for that comprehensive response. FWIW (probably not much), I'm thinking about the Eternal 811's (not sure whether to go with raw or one wash), Warehouse 800's (same thing there) or Samurai 0500XX's or S5000XX's.

The only comment that gives me some hesitation on the Samurai's is Mr. Invincible's comment on the Samurai thread: "The Texas cotton is slubby. I have a few rogue knots in my thigh which feels like nipples. makes me rub my thighs a lot."

If only Levi's made jeans the way they used to, it'd make buying great jeans a lot easier...

  6. Does anyone on here own a pair of Warehouse 800's one wash? If so, what do you think of them? I'm looking for a regular fit, medium rise pair of jeans that will experience some really nice fading. I'd also consider the raw version if I hear some good feedback on them (although BiG is out of stock on those).

    Thanks.

  7. I haven't tried any raw jeans yet, but I've been thinking about the Samurai S5000-VX's and the S0500-XX's. Just a few ?'s:

    1. How much will these shrink in the waist and inseam and front and back rises? I don't want to end up with a pair of low-rise or tight jeans.

    2. What size should I buy? I'm looking for a regular fit, medium rise pair of jeans that will undergo some great fading. I'm 5'10", 135 lbs, 32" inseam. My Levi's 505's are size 30, but have an actual waist of 32" (and they're a little bit loose, so I could take a 31-31.5" waist after stretching or shrinking).

    3. Of the cuts I mentioned above, which do you prefer from your own experiences (and is the breaking-in period painful)?

    Thanks.

  8. Thanks for that information - it's helpful.

If you had to pick, do you prefer raw denim from Warehouse, Samurai or PBJ? You mentioned PBJ's in your post. The PBJ's look pretty appealing, but the only cut that doesn't seem low or almost low-rise is the XX-003.

  9. Still loving my apc ns, just soaked em and they're fitting exactly how they should (imo). thought I might as well contribute

CJsmalls - those jeans look AWESOME.

    A few questions:

1.. How did you achieve the fit and fading on those jeans (how long unwashed, how often and what type of soaking, etc.)?

    2. I've never owned a pair of raw jeans. I've been considering some one wash jeans from Eternal, Pure Blue Japan, Warehouse and Samurai (for raw jeans), but haven't pulled the trigger yet. Some are way too low-rise for me. And the folks at BiG tell me that the Eternal 811's, which I thought might fit the bill, are actually very slim-fitting (something I want to avoid).

    3. I wouldn't at all enjoy the sensation of having my testicles placed in a vise for months on end, but how highly do you or other readers of this forum recommend APC New Standards? If I can end up with a pair of jeans like the ones you have it may be worth the effort. How do APC's compare to Samurais and other Japanese selvage raw jeans as far as breaking them in, fading, etc.?

    4. Btw, I'm 5'10", 135 lbs. with 20" thighs and a 32" inseam. The actual waist on my Levi's 505's measures 32" (and they're a little bit loose at that, so I could go with an actual 31-31.5" waist).

    Thanks for any feedback.

  10. I'm confused. This subforum is dedicated to, mostly, 'regular', mid-rise, bare detailing, and raw/one-wash jeans.

sidneylo: I thought the same thing. I posted here (if your comments were in reply to mine) because 2 people at BiG told me that the 811's are a very slim, NOT regular fit, pair of jeans.

  11. I called BiG to ask about the Eternal 811's and some PBJ's. To my surprise, I was told that the 811's are a tight jean (surprised because I compared the actual measurements on my Levi's 505's with the measurements posted on BiG's website, and they weren't much different).

My question is: how tight are the 811's? I'm a pretty skinny guy (5'10", 135, 20" thighs, size 30 Levi's 505's that have an actual waist of 32" and a 32" inseam), but I'm not interested in wearing either tight or baggy jeans. If I want to achieve a fit like I get with Levi's 501's or 505's what would you recommend? I've been thinking about the Eternal 811's, the PBJ XX003's (although I'd prefer a one-wash pair of jeans), PBJ XX005's, PBJ XX008's and Samurai S5000VX's. The problem with the PBJ 005's and 008's is that they seem to be low-rise, something I want to avoid (they're just not comfortable for me). I'd like to avoid any pocket detailing if possible and just let the denim speak for itself.

Do any PBJ's fit the bill (regular fit, medium front rise (10" or more), great dyeing and no back pocket detailing)?

    Thanks.

  12. I'd say the 811 (one-wash, true to size) are slim. FYI, I am 5'9", 160lbs, 32" waist, 22" thighs. A tagged 32 on me is slim, and a 31 is tight. If you are 5'10" and 135 lbs with a 32" waist, I can't imagine a tagged 32 being remotely tight on you. Even a 31 probably wouldn't be tight.

I'll try to snap a fit pic this weekend.

Thanks PeterParker. My thighs are 20". I definitely don't want a skinny jean (I'm already too skinny and don't need to accentuate that). I'll take a look at your pics if you get a chance to snap a few this weekend. If they don't look too slim maybe I'll give 'em a shot.

If I end up going with a regular fit as opposed to a slim fit jean are there any Japanese selvage brands that come to mind (regular, mid-rise fit, no back pocket adornments/detailing, great dye one-wash)?

  13. Are you in seeking anecdotal evidence or hard cold facts?

If you're looking for the latter, use the measurements and compare them to something you own.

If you're looking for the former, my 811's aren't that tight. Kinda. Sorta.

I did compare then to my Levi's 505's, and the measurements are pretty similar. But I was surprised when someone at BiG told me that they are a tight jean. Definitely not looking for tight, and I don't want to drop 225 bucks on something I don't like a LOT.

Sidneylo-can you compare the fit of the 811's to the fit of Levi's 501's or 505's (if you own any)?

    Thanks.

Also, do any Fullcount or Sugar Cane models fit the bill of what I'm looking for? I'd like to avoid any pocket detailing if possible and just let the denim speak for itself.

I tried 2 pairs of Simon Miler jeans (too distressed for my taste) and a pair of Loomstate Prophecy jeans (very cheap, lightweight jeans that are just way too low-rise).

Thanks in advance for your feedback.
