What causes the agitation? The spin cycle? I thought having the jeans in the spin cycle was something people tried to avoid?

so i get my samurai 710s tomorrow, and i'm debating between a hot wash and a hot soak in boiling water. at the moment, i'm leaning towards a hot wash.

from searching this thread, it seems that hot washes get more shrink out but at what expense? will the jeans lose more indigo? on average, how many hot washes does it take before the shrink is out?

i've also noticed that using boiling water damages the patch. does any such damage happen after a hot wash? why would i want to do a hot soak rather than a hot wash?

my apcs are starting to pill on the lap area. is there anyway to remove these pills? is it just a sign that my jeans are wearing thin?

i meant on a pocket repair. there's a difference between stitching over fabric that's intact and completely restitching a hole.

so i've got some pretty big holes in the back pockets of my apcs. now i know i can patch it up with pieces of other denim, but my local tailor offers a service that uses mattress ticking to repair holes (i forget the name of the technique. i had it done for my crotch reinforcement). which technique should i do? i've never really seen the results of the "mattress ticking" repair so that's why i'm a little hesitant to do it. any words of advice would be rad.
