anyone planning on doing frequent washes or soaks on their pair?

i plan on washing frequently. either every 2 months or whenever they start to stink. haven't washed them yet tho; its only been a month in for me

Second pair purchased, S5000BK.

I totally forgot my S5000BK's qualified for this contest! I bought and started wearing them last mid-Decemeber before I got my 500JX-LRs. Mega, do you mind adding S5000BK's to #40? I'm even more excited for this contest as we'd have the same black Sams.

As for tactics, I don't really have any. I guess being a commuter could count. Walking and sitting on the bus/bus stops for 2 hours out of my day has been what I've been doing. These two years will be interesting tho because I will have graduated and will start working in the Philippines. For washing, I always machine wash my jeans every 2 months or when they start to stink.

I've gotten them tapered to basically the same measurements as my size 34 710s (which my waist has grown out of):

thigh- 12.5"

knee- 8.75

opening- 7.75

I am probably going to give it another wash to try and get more shrinkage outta the knee area.

what do you guys prefer to shrink denim?

1) hot wash (take out before spin) + dryer (take out before 100% dry) + hang dry

2) hot wash (take out before spin) + hang dry

I actually had the same problem...the knees didn't shrink to what I hoped for. I machine washed AND machine dried TWICE! I measured the jeans pre and post wash (x2). After the first wash/dry, the knee shrank half an inch. After the second wash/dry, there was no noticeable difference in the knee and leg opening after the first wash/dry, only in the waist. I ended up tapering the knee and leg. I'll show fit pics tonight or tmrw morning.

did you notice any marbling/harm to the denim after wash and dryer?

well, you got the right tailors there in LA so the taper-job should be a good one

nope! no harm at all done to the denim after the wash and dryer. I just made sure that I took the jeans out during the washer's spin-dry cycle. for the dryer, I chose to use the huge ones at the laundromat so that the jeans had enough space to move around and chafe less. I love the indigo retention of Samurais--I never have to worry about loss during a wash.

my patch took a toll tho. looks exactly like Obbigood's.

it shrunk a little and dried out, but I put a bit of hand lotion on it to rehydrate it. my dad taught me that and I swear by it and do it to all my jeans. it works just as good as any leather conditioner out there.

well...most likely a typo or Gordon got confused. wondered when he would show that pair in his shop.

I might be wrong but I think we paid about $370 with Pirates. We got them for cheaper AND earlier? Good deal.

anyway, I'm back in LA and did some washing:

some indigo soup. I didn't use soap but some suds came up probably from earlier washes with the machine

after the wash, there was so much blue stains on the machine's walls that I had to wipe it down

i hang-dried them after the wash, but they didn't shrink to the measurements I was hoping for so I went to the laundromat next door and used their dryer

my quick measurements:

pre-wash:

waist- 37

thigh- 13.25

knee- 10.25

opening- 9.5

inseam- 33.25

post-wash:

waist- 36

thigh- 13

knee- 10

opening- 9

inseam- 31.25

post-dryer:

waist- 35

knee- 9.75

and everything else remained the same

I'll post fit pics later in the week when I have access to a camera again.

I'm thinking about tapering them from the knee down.

I went to Robert Shaeffer's Garment Hotel on Sunset. I know that Denim Doctors at HTC have the same kind of repairs.

here are my 710s. havent worn them regularly since the summer. worn for 11 mo and washed often.

Mid city 90019. Yeah I got mine hemmed. That's odd tho. From everyone's experiences, EMS sounds pretty inconsistent in terms of tracking. I hope you receive yours soon tho so we can finally see some pics and fits.
