  1. I have some good news (though out of bad) for my leg of the tour. One of my friends didn't get the super-crazy travel intensive job he wanted to (interviewed with partner of firm but didn't quite make it) so, this means I will be partaking in significantly more gallivanting about to various ski locations, and partaking in ridiculous eating at said locations because the aforementioned friend is my key ski buddy.

  2. Hey guys,

    I got a F380 at Self Edge with a 38 waist.

Before the soak, they fit me quite well, everything had a tiny little bit of room.

After a 45min warm soak and one night of hang drying, the fit was almost perfect and I could still button the jeans comfortably.

Now, after 4 weeks of wearing it every day and losing 25 pounds (I started wearing them about 3 weeks later after I bought them), it became a little too loose for my taste. It's not baggy, but I miss the fit after the soak.

    Now I have some questions:

    - How can I make them shrink even more? Boiling water? Should I put them in the dryer?

    - Independent from this: After what time or how often should I wash them? Does the 6 months "rule" apply for FH? And HOW should I wash them? By hand in a tub (= kind of a soak with soap) or in a machine?

    Thanks,

    Chris

If you wash them in hot water ( 60C) they will shrink, if you want them to shrink more, wash then dry in dryer on high. They'll shrink for the first 5-6 washes (smaller than before). My F380s are significantly smaller than after the first wash now, after like 8-10 ish washes.

  3. whats a good product to re-waterproof a soft shell?

Depending on how waterproof you need it to be, they have goretex refresh wash, you just wash the jacket and boom, you're good to go. Also, there are spray treatments for waterproof breathables, which I would recommend in addition to the wash if you're using it for something like skiing where theres constant moisture for an extended period. My recommendation would be to hit up your local outdoors/camping/ski shop, or somewhere thats pretty specialized in the area and likely to sell a lot of waterproof/breathable outerwear.

  4. You should be able to find some Obenaufs Leather Protector, (the jar, solid product, NOT the oil in this case)

Its beeswax based, and I used it, with success, to regain that waxy look that the beeswax DBs come with. (also made the leather feel nicer, and waterproofed)

Technique I used: apply by hand as recommended once, buff out with cloth, then apply again and heat lightly (hairdryer, or ideally, if your clothes dryer has the rack that can be inserted works perfectly) for about 15 minutes. I think the heating of the wax has a lot to do with getting that texture back. Also, use discretion with the heat, we're talking like 50 degrees C here.

  5. I was in there at the end of August. Was pretty pressed for time, but some of the stuff looked kind of interesting, some of it looked pretty average. I did not find their shirts particularly inspiring.

Also for anyone on their way to the actual store, its on the end of the forum shops where it T's and comes out into the casino near the Coliseum Theater.

  6. One of my buddies got his pair in.. Sadly they don't fit him in the waist even though the fit is on point. Anyone with a 34 looking to trade down?

I'm going to be honest, that happened to me with my skulls, and the next time I gave them a full wash after some wear the waist came right in (opposite happened to me with FHs, fit was all good after the first wash, second needed some stretching). If its even kinda close, I'd recommend a belt.

Also if the rest of the fit is good, shit will start to get small, starting with a smaller waist.

  7. Man, my food posts probably aren't going to be this jammin, I'll try to get a few in, but the eating where I'm at is ok at the best of times, and/or I am a busted poor student.

None the less, the tour rolls on. Go burger tour, go.

  8. I'm pretty sure its that everyone thinks his shirts are so tight because everyone buys them way too fucking small.

I actually saw a guy totally ricked out, and his shit fit properly, and because it looked good it actually took me a sec to realize it was full gothninj kit.

  9. Looking at getting a pair of the 5507xx. I'm a little concerned theyre going to be more snug than I want them to be. Most of the fit pics in this thread are of the 5010xx, anyone have any comparisons between the two?

Also, I was looking at buying them through this site http://www.kiosk78.co.uk/shop/brands/skull-jeans

These seem like theyre well priced. They need to be shipped to Canada. Would you recommend I purchase through the fabfour site instead? Do they even ship international?

Also looking at Self Edge. They got em' for $290 including shipping. Anyone deal with them before? Do they add on tax and/or duty after the fact? Do any of these stores allow returns if the fit is no good?

Well, you'll probably get them cheaper all things said and done from Kiosk. (remember to deduct 17.5% before shipping charges). I would also recommend Kiosk as their staff has been nothing but helpful and friendly in my experience, also that will likely be a lot easier dealing in english and UK to Canada shipping is definitely lower.

  10. The BiG site says the new 5010XX 6x6 runs slightly larger..can anyone confirm this?

    Thanks

I direct you several posts upwards. This is for the 5507xx but it should be the same. Alternatively, my experience was slightly different, I measured my tagged 32 at 16.25" raw at the waist maybe. Hard to say as my tape measure at the time was right on the belt loop, and I tried them on in person so I was already satisfied with the fit. They fit smaller than the old ones (which I had tried on) for sure, I'd say they were pretty true to tagged size raw. Mine measured something a little under 16" after a hot soak with agitation. To reiterate: they seem to fit smaller, or at least closer to tagged size than the old ones in my experience. The new 30 fit like the old 29. Then I decided to size up for the fit that I wanted.

    ....I measured them BIG style

    RAW 32 Waist

    Waist 16.5"

    F Rise 10.75"

    B Rise 14.25"

    Thigh: 12.5"

    Knee: 9.25"

    Leg Opening: 7. 87"

    Inseam: 37"

Also wanting to see more pictures of the new denim...

As per request. Keep in mind that these were shot using a p&s camera, and I didn't have a whole lot of time to work with. (moving to a different country on Sunday).

Fit pic. These have been hot soaked with agitation once to get the starch out and it shored up the fit nicely. I intentionally sized these up about 1, maybe 1.5 inches, although I see the potential for more shrinkage in the future. Really loving the fit, kind has a 50's feel to it, but slimmed down a bit.

Next up is a couple of attempts at macro shots, I hope its better than nothing. Denim has a nice texture, uneven but still pretty soft. Weft is amazingly soft.

  11. I just gave my brand new 5507xx a soak to get some srinkage/get the starch out.

Not sure if anyone else has noticed this with the new California cotton ones, but the texture is pretty awesome. I've handled the old Texas cotton ones, and I'd say these are a little less rough, but they manage to maintain a fairly rough warp, but the weft feels super soft, definitely softer than the old ones, and softer than any of my other denim has been 'out of the box'. I can see these being insanely comfortable jeans as they get broken in. I assume this is part of the advantage of the cotton change.

So, overall, I'd say the cotton/texture of the Cali denim is something to be interested in, not to mention the cut. I have no idea why people would avoid these because they changed the cotton. They know what they're doing, I'm sure the change was because it was better in one way or another.

  12. it's still Germany and not the Netherlands (although growing it there is also prohibited, I think)

You are allowed to legally grow up to 5 plants for "personal use" in the Netherlands.

And more to the point, that is a fantastic looking garden. The landscaping looks great, must have been a hell of a lot of work (I end up getting roped into working landscaping from time to time, I should know).

  13. This was technically yesterday, but I couldn't catch any internet.

I was feeling a little under the weather, but my jeans were in Stockholm, and went to visit lildavid at the C store. And me, complete with hobo beard/hair and busted ass travelling hat.

Awesome guy, great store. I felt I would have missed something if I didn't make a stop while in Stockholm.

  14. Man, I traipse about Europe for a few weeks, and damn it took me a while to go through the last 10 days of updates. Definitely some good shit going down here.

Keeps making me hungry though. I'm Canadian, but I still miss eating out in America, so cheap and delicious.

  15. I just got a pair of the 'new' 5507xx, and the denim is looking good, feels nice. Construction seems good, nice mixed stitching with lemon/gold interspersed.

I do have to say, the sizing is definitely smaller than previous runs. Not sure if its my pair or a general thing, but I actually sized up to a 32 from a true 30-31. I had planned on getting a 30, and had tried on one of the old run size 29, and it fit the same as the new 30, or so it seemed. So, I ended up with a 32, to go for a bit of a looser fit, and after measuring, they measure 16" across the waist, instead of the previous sizing where it was about 1" larger than tagged.

I plan on soaking pre-wear even though these are sanforized, so I'll check the post-soak measurement when that time comes.
