  1. so is starching somehow bad for the denim? unnecessarily gunking up the fibers with starch or ruining the texture?

i just wanted to restore it back to as close as the way it was when i first bought the pair a week ago. soaking it twice and tumble drying it reduced its stiffness by a lot.

but if someone could educate me on this matter, i would appreciate it.

  2. Very little information on FC on this forum. Thought I'd contribute.

Got this greencast pair one week ago at BIG. Two hot soaks, and a tumble dry w/high heat on second one. First soak was for 2 hours and it basically shrunk it as much as it could. But then I wore it without a belt and the waist stretched too much so I shrunk it again. Waist shrunk but if the length shrunk I didn't notice it.

The crotch is sort of tight-- something I'm not used to having worn Lucky's for the longest time.

Nice, dark indigo with great texture. Slubby but not too slubby so it can be worn with a nice button down without looking mismatched.

Pretty lightweight, but it's good for me as that means it's breathable.

I'm gonna starch these soon.-- People are telling me not to, but I thought starching would let me get better combs/whiskers.f.JPGs.JPGb.JPG

How's the fit? Sorry for quality.

  3. yep, i looked at them too the other day. it's pretty soft, not stiff. not nearly as soft as something like seven jeans though. they felt pretty lightweight. i didn't really care for the texture of the denim nor did i particularly like the color. as for the design of pocket - you could rip out the threads on the pocket but that selvedge line looked stupid.

i ended up getting fullcount 1108's instead. (fuck it's my first purchase and i think i did well since the fit is PERFECT and the color/texture is amazing but 255+ tax brings it to 266 and that hurts a lot!)

btw i tried on like 7 pairs of jeans to decide on the fullcount and so i have no idea how all you people buy jeans without actually trying them on for fit beforehand... seems like every pair has a distinct cut which changes the fit so much, don't know how u could ascertain the fit from measurements online.

  4. well, i didn't want to buy a pair of wickedly expensive jeans when i really didn't know what i was buying at the time and didn't want to make the mistake of paying some really high price on something that would later become unjustified when i learned more about it.

at the time, i really liked evisu (but didn't like the gulls) but now i'm glad i didn't pay the 21,000 jpy for the lot 2001's because i'd rather spend the same amount for a better pair of jeans. so all in all, it would have been best if i knew the product but the second best outcome was that i didn't buy anything.

  5. PBJ-003 at Hinoya was 18,600 yen.

jeezzzz us americans are paying an extra 51 dollars for the same pbjs from BIG, minus pocket designs/tabs. shit i wish i knew about jeans when i was visiting tokyo!

  6. Looking for suggestions...

Should I buy a pair of PBJs (or any other raw selvedge brand at around 225 usd, the price point I want to work with) or a pair of Sugar Canes? Sugar Canes can be had at 20% off at Denim Bar...

I'm looking for a look that is dressier-- can be worn with a nice button down or a polo shirt, as well as a straight or relaxed fit.

    Thanks for the help.

  7. I agree. I would like to see some more information about your line of jeans and want to read about contestant opinion on your jeans when they receive them. It looks like some really great quality, especially for the price.

Feed us some more information so I can make a purchase!

  8. Does the Edwin.co.jp online shop ship to the United States? I tried fumbling through their website but I can't read kanji (or whatever characters they are) and couldn't really determine if it was impossible to give them an international shipping address. I really want a pair of the Straight Vintage Button Fly as featured on http://repeattofade.blogspot.com/2008/04/edwin-vintage-aw-2008.html

but I can't find them on Edwin's website. If someone could link it...

But I'm also considering that it might just be better to buy another brand from BiG or Denim Bar (close enough to where I live) at the same price point. Insight on this would be appreciated.

Damn I should have just bought them when I saw them in Japan... I just didn't know anything about jeans back then...I'm feeling that I'd like to spend around $150 to $250 on jeans and would much rather pay $100 for them, but I'd also like to get a pair that I'd be happy with their unique quality. If people could recommend names that have great value, I'd really appreciate it. Also I plan on wearing such jeans with a t-shirt or a nice button down, so I think the less slubby the denim better it would go with a nice shirt.

    Thanks for the input.

  9. heh, thanks though. but i don't really want the jeans with too much of a design on it. they won't look good paired with a nice shirt.

i would so much rather spend 150 or less on dry selvedge than to pay more... i wish i woulda bought those 150 buck jeans in tokyo when i was in the edwin store but i didn't realize how rare it is over here. those would have been a really good buy. nice, heavy, slubby but still dressy, good fit and color.

    damn.

anyone know of good sales/names to look out for at this price range? is it really worth paying more than 150 for dry selvedge?

  10. My Evisu Vintage Heritage jeans order just arrived in the mail... But I didn't like them for a few reasons:

I didn't like the denim fabric itself that much because it felt a bit lightweight for something that toted great quality. Looking closely there was some slubbiness, but not much. I guess I wouldn't want too much slubbiness because I want jeans that I can wear with a t-shirt or a nice button-down shirt for a club.

I do remember the Evisu Lot 2001 No 2 that I tried on at Hinoya in Tokyo were basically the same wash as these except the jeans were remarkably harder... more starched. Maybe they were heavier denim, but I can't remember. I just remember that it wasn't so baggy as these and I don't remember the pockets being so damn huge. Whatever, I'm glad I didn't buy those because I don't like paint on the pocket.

The pockets are way too big, especially in length on these Heritages. They go past my butt cheeks making me look as if I were sagging the jeans and I hate that look. The guy who sounds effeminate at Evisu told me that all Heritage jeans will have the same-sized pocket.

The legs were too baggy for me and better resembles an urban, baggy fit.

I think size 32 for my waist was probably perfect as the jeans would probably end up shrinking a bit making the fit perfect.

The color was alright. I'd be satisfied with it.

My Lucky Brand Jeans all fit better and look better than these. I guess I just chose the wrong ones from Evisu. But I remember my friend having a pair of Nudies and I really liked the color so I think I'll try to buy my own pair. But DJPremium.com just sold out of their 32 waist in RRDS which I betted was the best fit for me, which is a bummer. I'll probably go to Denim Bar nearby to try on the different Nudies.

Though the return policy says that discounted items are final sales, the guy at Evisu processed a return for me and is even covering the return shipping cost. All of this was done without me having to pressure him into giving me a return or anything. Very pain-free, simple, great customer service. So even if I'm really dissatisfied with my purchase, the customer service would keep me coming back if they had some products that better fit my preferences.

  11. I find most mainstream folks have moved beyond Evisu, and are now focusing their attention on such brands as True Religion and Nudie, which is fine by me.
what nudie is mainstream? no mainstream people know about selvage/dry/raw jeans... in fact i remember reading on slickdeals forum that people like citizen/sevens because of their super-soft denim.

are mainstream brands really of such inferior quality? i don't know much about true religion but a lot of people seem to be happy with their sevens, and i have many of my american-made lucky brand jeans of which i'm happy with the fit and comfort.

  12. HEY CHEEP

    thanks!

well i hope they end up being a good fit for me and not too baggy. anyway, the guy at evisu said that i could just ship it back and switch it for the heritage classics anyway w/no ship costs.

just have to wait for shipping now, which is a pain.

  13. Well, I get the impression that reading on these boards that Evisu wouldn't be put in the same category as names like Somet, Studio D'Artisan, Pure Blue Japan, Dubbleworks, Warehouse, etc.

And I can understand, since Evisu has Chinese lines, American, and European lines that don't match up to their Japanese lines which shows dilution of quality.

But these jeans were just $120.

  14. Ugh, I finally gave in and bought my first pair of raw denim, the No 2. Heritage Vintage Cut, size 32 for $118 shipped. I found out that these ones are made in Macau, but I hope at least the fabric is still manufactured in Japan. (Can anyone vouch?)

I was in Americaya and Hinoya a month ago, sitting on the bowl about the Lot 2001 No. 2 Evisus I tried on. At the time, I really liked the color and the un-slubbiness about the fabric, but I kept thinking to myself that I could probably get this for a lot cheaper once I got back in the States. Luckily I didn't buy it since I now don't want jeans with the paint design on it. Even luckier that I found it a lot cheaper with this sale and hopefully the quality is still basically the same. But I can't remember if I thought they might have been too baggy or if the relaxed fit version was too tight.

In regard to relaxed fit, will the thighs end up stretching out and becoming perfect, or do they basically stay snug, considering shrinkage and stretching?

DJ Premium also has Nudies Regular Ralf Dry Selvage on sale, and I'm considering buying a second pair so I can switch on and off the two pairs of jeans during the break-in period. What do you think about the quality?

It seems as though lots of people now don't like Evisu quality and look elsewhere. But I figured that at $120 I couldn't get a pair of jeans with better quality. And maybe at $170 the Nudies are a steal too?
