  1. production-wise, Samurai does not churn out nearly as much volume as [e.g., Nudie, Prps, etc]. therefore, if they virtuously keep status quo, like keeping supply low [e.i., limited production], so there won't ever be enough available to reach mainstrem. also, they shouldn't acquiesce to pop pressure like venturing into more current yet fadish cuts. i know it's a business and they need to make a profit, but [iMO] in order for them to protect and maintain the brand name, they should stay with the formula that made them stood out, in the first place --- putting out quality products, and staying close to what got the cult started -repros and quasi-repro cuts.

I agree with you I think it's a little flippant to say they are the new Nudie. I'm at art college in London where Nudie's on skinny legs are a daily sight and they are stocked in all the big department stores and loads of smaller high street shops. I have never seen another pair of Samurai's (being worn or for sale) in the UK. I've seen other Japanese jeans like Sugar Cane and Kato's in shops here but not Sammies.

Now let's get back to the pictures, I would post mine but they have next to no wear and it's dark here! Maybe in a few weeks.

  2. I really like the look of their stuff. I think I'm going to go and order from them, it's gonna be difficult trying to choose fabrics I know the cut I want and that I want an unsanforized fabric but there are still too many to choose from!

  3. Wow they're really nice, especially since they've had quite a few washes. I have the same model as you but mine seem to be sized wrongly being about 2 sizes bigger than tagged (that's before stretching).

I was worried about washing mine to often (they stretch so much between washes) but looking at yours has made me more confident about giving mine a nice hot wash to try and get them to shrink a little. What temperature have your washes been at?

  4. I think the fit looks good. Also bear in mind when you put them through the washing machine they will shrink more, just stop the machine before the spin cycle to avoid ugly creases from forming.

I soak then machine wash all new sammies to get max shrinkage out of the way. The only exception to this was with 5000vx 21 oz which i got washed from pirates. They are way small.

Thanks guys for the good comments, I won't listen to that one at the top then!

Thanks I'll give that a try. The waist does measure about 30.5" which makes me think there's a little bit left in them. Do you do a cold or hot wash in the machine? and I take it you don't use any detergent?

  5. Thanks and for once with a new pair of jeans I'm really happy with them too.

The total price in Yen was 28,740 so I got a rate from PayPal of 1 GBP = 171.432JPY which as you say is pretty poor.

I'm about 6'2" I think so I am fairly tall. I sometimes find inseams too short so it's refreshing to find some that are long enough to cuff. I didn't measure the jeans pre-wash but just measuring them now the inseam is a good 36" and the waist is just over 30" so I wonder whether there might still be some minute shrinkage left - they're still a little damp though.

  6. Here's some pictures of my S0500XX's post-soak (see last page for pre-soak). Lighting isn't that great but you should just be able to see it okay.

They've had a hot soak in the tub for a few hours until the water had cooled down significantly and then hang dried. Do you think I should do another soak just to get all the shrinkage I can out of these? The fit is pretty slim at the moment which I don't mind but I'm looking forward to them stretching a little.

  7. Looking good there magnetic. Out of interest how much did you pay? I too am thinking of importing some sams to the UK. Also, what size did you go with compared to your normal size?

    Many thanks

Hi all in it came to £167.65 (PayPal rip you off with the exchange rate) and I asked them to mark jeans down to $40 and mark as a gift which they will happily do so you avoid customs charges. I measure about 30 round my natural waist and 31-32 round the hips but I went for a 30 even though these sit on the hips they do stretch a lot.

Post-soak pics to come later today, they may help you decide.

  8. Just got my S0500XX's from 2nd. 3 days from Japan to UK that's not bad at all; although I think I've been ripped off they've sent me jeans made out of cardboard! I hope they soften quite a bit.

Let me know what you think of these fit pics pre-wash, post-wash pics to come soon:

  9. If you buy them from any Japanese shop they will come with arcuates. That includes Pirates (english speaking) or 2nd or any other shop you may use through a proxy. The measurements on the BiG website are pre-soak measurements.

  10. Here's a question for you. About a year ago I bought a pair of Nudie Average Joe Selvage jeans and then about 6 months later when they had some ugly wear on them I saw the light of half decent Japanese denim and now own Sugar Cane, Kato and Samurai models. I don't like these Nudie jeans and actually think they look worse with this ugly non-realistic fading on them. I am currently wondering what I should do with these Nudies. Burn them, give them to someone, put them in a cupboard for ever. Any ideas?

  11. where are you located? because i think i asked them once if they could send samurais and they said they couldnt ship it overseas.

edit: i would get the 5000bk's from 2nd but im not really interested in lot 11s. even though theyre all really the "same"

I am in the UK and there was no problem. Got my tracking no. and it's on its way. What is it about lot 11 you're not interested in?

  12. anyone a size 32 34 or 36 check ebay.co.uk some guy selling on there 1947 model and a couple others not my size :(:(:(

There's a guy in Japan I bought my 1947's from on eBay really cheaply. He was selling all sizes in his eBay shop and was able to chain-stitch as well. Very friendly when I needed to return for a different size too! Don't know if he's still around but it wasn't that long ago.

  13. Yes I paid with PayPal. [email protected] just send them an email in simple English titled "international order" or something like that and use an online translation software to put the Japanese underneath.

They will send you a huge email back in Japanese some of which has been translated into English. Then just reply again in both English and Japanese giving them the information they ask for in the big long email i.e. Manufacturer, product name etc and tell them you'll be paying by PayPal.

Then you'll get a confirmation and a PayPal invoice, just pay and then when the item has been sent you'll get a tracking confirmation.

  14. Just like to say I've just ordered Samurai S0500XX from 2nd. Ordering couldn't be easier just sent them an email in easy Japanese (using Google) along with the English translation and now made my payment. They are great and reply within minutes. I'll post fit pics when they arrive!

  15. Thanks for your help, although I don't get why those sizes are so different to the post-wash sizes that Samurai give on their website. I'm not after a super-tight fit but I want them to fit well.

  16. Sizing question x-posted from small questions (sorry but Yuichi at Pirates is waiting on an answer)

I'm ordering some some Samurai S0500XX's (one-wash) and I am a size 30 in my natural waist (measured around belly button).

I am buying from Yuichi at Pirates and I have been told these are the sizes for his one-wash model:

    size 30 ... waist 74 cm

    size 31 ... waist 76 cm

    size 32 ... waist 78 cm

    size 33 ... waist 80 cm

    size 34 ... waist 82 cm

This seems a little small as 74cm is only about 29 inches. I am also told they sit a little low on the waist too so I am torn between which size to get. When measured around the top of the hips I measure more like a 31-32. Can anyone with any experience with these jeans help me out?

EDIT: he tells me they are lot 11 if this helps.

    Thanks.
