And as for spot exposure and lasso-ing - these are very labor intensive and time consuming processes and really don't make monetary sense when you're getting paid for the shoot. it really only works in limited circumstances but I have employed it with architectural shots absolutely - especially with black and whites where the haloing is less noticeable.
Why the need for spot exposure and lasso-ing? You're just destructing the image and losing data with that process, a simple dodge and burn or quick mask curves adjustment would do the job fine of popping a subject out.

so would shooting wider help with the weird cropping?
thanks for the comments guys
Just take a few steps back and include hands, feet, etc.

C & C?
I agree on the crops being weird, where you chose to cut off just causes a strange tension to me.
Light is a bit flat, the 3rd photo has a somewhat type of monster light going on and that just doesn't make anybody look good.

got some film back..
Been looking forward to seeing this since you posted the digital version....looks great. Where do you get your film processed/scanned?
I get my film processed at a local lab near where I am (Boston, MA), normally takes about a day and the prices are reasonably cheap compared to other places.
I do all the scanning myself, I use a Canoscan 8400f, there have been some things going wrong with it lately though..blowing out highlights when there is clearly detail in the slide, etc.
Glad you like it!

toldey, nothing personal if you wear one, i know its not as safe without one.. but i just think of the doofus dad and his training wheels kid when i see people moseying along on bikes wearing helmets. basically, i sorta view bicycle helmets and roller blade wrist guards in the same light.. i dont know why/where the connection is, just the impression i get in my head.
racing and serious shits different, i wouldnt hold it against those guys, but i just use a bike to get from a to b, thus i choose not to wear one. a slick, streamlined helmet or a bulky pro-tec bmx looking thing would both look mad retarded on me, i guess its my fashion over function side talking..
no worries dino might!, i don't wear one currently but do plan on getting one in the very near future. living in a city where there aren't the more patient and respectful drivers, i often get nervous at times but im all for it and could care less about how it all looks.
