  1. Well Cheap Monday is currently having a sample sale at The News Showroom, 495 Broadway 5th floor, and this time it's a lot less public (meaning more stuff, lots of sizes, not many people).

But I didn't see either the hat or the bag... mostly just jackets, pants, and tops.

  2. some mikli for claude montana/claude montana for mikli joints for that mid-90s johnny depp dating kate moss style:

    $40.

By the way, I love these... kinda sorta wish I had spotted them first.

  3. Perhaps a lame question, but humor me: does Alain Mikli carry traditional brown/tortoise plastic frames? In your regular rectangle/squareish shapes?

Eh, not really... you can always check out the website for a comprehensive list of his current styles. mikli.fr

Today I walked into Linda Derector and was delighted to see one of the frames I bought for $40, at full retail -- a lovely $350. Crazy good feeling inside, and even though I don't really like the Montanas (they're the round style, kinda old-ish and very strange on my long face), I might just have to flaunt them now.

Great buys there! And the best thing was, anything not mikli was $40, which included the Jil Sander, all of the Montanas, and whatever else was mixed in.

  4. Fuck, I want to get glasses too! Is there tons left?

They seemed to be continually refilling the bins, but what with the amount of people ransacking said bins for the one or two unique pair among the bunch, it will definitely be a challenge to find something "wearably special."

Then again, even if you do buy one of the highly-duplicated pairs (meaning each bin probably has 2-3 of the same glasses), once you're outside the sample sale they'll be special in their own right.

It's a good mix of tacky to sophisticated -- I got a pair that looked astonishingly similar to some Prada wide-framed glasses, and another by Jil Sander, and yet another by Montana. Hand-made french lenses for 40-60 really isn't bad.

    Price specifics:

$40 for anything that's not Mikli

    $60 for Mikli

    $90 for Alain Mikli

  5. So.. much.. eyewear...

I went at around 4 pm, and though it was teeming with little old ladies I managed to snag a few exciting picks.

Sad thing is, this morning I was at Linda Derector and bought a pair of glasses at full price... even though they also had a sale -- 50% off. Just like me to not choose a sale item and then regret the impluse-buy immediately thereafter.

  6. I caught his post later at night and thought he might be up burning the midnight oil as well. /shrug

You aren't actually supposed to defend yourself here... quick, edit and write in "hehe jokes all around!"

  7. anyone know where the JL sale is? heard it started today.

    Here are the details:

    12/5—12/8, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., 588 Broadway, Suite 908; 212-625-8600

  8. The News Showroom is having yet another Cheap Monday sample sale, yet this time dedicated entirely to the brand (instead of a mishmash of randoms like before).

I think it starts Wednesday. Can anyone confirm?

  9. Once (and if) they ask for money, that's when you take off. There are so many of those scam modeling schools where they ask for about $1200 down to train kids how to walk, pose, and apply makeup. Sure it can be a "confidence booster" as they don't guarantee any kind of representation, but they take these kids who are legal midgets and these girls who actually think they're going to be swept up by Ford, Elite, Next, Marylin, etc. It's a disaster for the parents, and a godsend for these "schools."

I would just stick to open calls at agencies and see where that goes.

  10. I heard good things about Bodega, but judging from the past few posts I take it that I have been misinformed?

There's a small chunk of my heart invested in that store, so I may not be the best for an unbiased run-down, but the layout itself is _fun_ to check out. I also haven't been there for over six months, so it could very well be lackluster. But, If you're near Newbury St, you might as well take a walk over since it's about five minutes from the far end (where Best Buy and Urban Outfitters are).

I grew up in Boston and it's true that there's really nothing there. We do have a few great thrift stores though -- the Boomerangs warehouse in Jamaica Plain, Garment District in Cambridge, among others.

    :/ That's why I left.
