  1. Obenauf Heavy Duty Leather Preservative instead of Brooks Proofide for the saddle? or i shud stick with the proofide?

stick with the proofide but in all honesty during the months i had my brooks there was no pressing need to really use proofide / preservative.

although i applied some to the underside (not much either) and eventually it soaked upwards and left little bumps along the top :x

    thirded, i love my steamroller

isnt there a surly steam roller for road bikes also? i think fuso might wanna look into that also.

  2. selle an-atomica.

it has a hole in it for your balls to get trapped in when you ride drunk and naked.

    trust me, it sucks. :(

i have that saddle, the strange thing is sometimes it digs into my thighs at the outeredge and other days it doesnt.

(it may be due to my riding style... sometimes when im tired i lean back alot)

i've noticed the more i lean in the less chafing happens..

    :x

might try the imperial b17 narrow... since i loved the feeling of the brooks smoothness and durability but wasnt satisfied with the width!

  3. yeah, im reconsidering going for road pedals. theyd be wider = more platform for sneakers, no? plus the teeth on the touring pedals make me a bit worried for the soles of my sneakers...

    thanks

i was on a budget / needed a pedal set up asap so i picked up giant road pedals at my LBS. they didnt have any strap insertion points so make sure that they do have them before you make the purchase.

(i still wrapped my straps beneath the bars but they're not as snug of a fit compared to say something like mks sylvans)

and yeah, these road pedals are wearing into the flats of my shoes and i get frictional wear + black marks on my shoes from riding.

  4. I'm no engineering expert but I thin the reason the flex is gone is due to the fact that the cranksrms aren't attached to a square faced interface.

Therefore, when putting / applying force the square taper will be weighed down by your feet?

Correct me if I'm wrong on this but I think that's how the flex is lowered

  5. what difference does the taper of the BB make? I'm curious.

I ride sugino RD right now and I'm pretty happy with them.

I started doing retarded shit like wheelies and i started noticingthat the crankarms flex too much

what do you think of bianchi pista's geometry? i feel like i would have an easier time doing tricks on another frame. i think the frame size is an issue too.

building a proper trick bike is pretty difficult. there are so many factors that influence the way your bike rides e.g. gear ratio, seat placement and how far it is from the stem, cockpit, proper leg extension...

ive been riding fixed for like 1.5 years but have yet to figure out much.

it doesn't help that no one around me owns a trick bike e.g. cutter, bruiser, gangsta and etc

You can try asking john prolly thru his blog because I think he's using them on his ride.

Btw, are you using normal straps or something along the lines of hold fast?

Tired of snapping my nylons after a month or so..

  6. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK.

(I apologize if I'm obnoxious/ignorant; I'm new to fixed gear riding.)

I have a 2008 Bianchi Pista that I was riding/commuting with. I finally threw on some riser bars and was riding around testing them out. Suddenly, my foot releases from the pedal and I'm on the ground. The pedal was ripped from the crank arm. I took my bike inside and saw the mess: the pedal had stripped the crank. FUCK.

As a speed bump, the crankset was stock: 48T Truvativ Touro; the pedals were cheap Wellgos. The pedals were properly screwed in, tightened, and greased.

In anger, I did some decent research and found a few others on the Interwebz that had the same shit happen. Coincidence? Regardless of anger of shitty cranks, I need to fix this one way or another. I see my options as:

    1) Replace crank arm (moderate to high difficulty; I don't really want to as the same shit component would be replaced.)

    2) Replace crankset (high difficulty; I'm broke and the only think I would even be able to remotely afford soon would be a Sugino RD.)

    3) Sell the Bianchi Pista/part it out; purchase new fixie (moderate difficulty; not sure what I could get/who to sell it to/etc.)

Everything else is in perfect working condition. The only "flaws" are 4 incredibly small, yet noticeable, surface scratches on the frame of the bike. Other than that, the seat post, steam, and stock bars show typical wear for a 5 month old bike used somewhat frequently.

What the fuck do I do?... I'm so pissed/broken about this shit.

i think this is common occurence, i had the same pedal + crankset.

if you'd like, i have a "working" left crank (if you stripped your left side...)

    let me know.

(this was the reason i replaced mine with the omniums, and i love em wont go back to square taper ever)

What about replacing the pedal threads?

keeps costs low, but i think he could afford to have a upgraded crankset.

  7. Don't hate me, but is the Mash Cinelli frame some limited edition bullshit, or will it actually be available to buy somewhere?

    limited to 1000 frames.

you'll most likely have to call up a store that has more upscale brands or something.

(only 2 places around me have them in stock .. and they were limited to a few frames i believe)

  8. Yes

Ive heard the same thing. Many say its only a matter of time b4 these type of cranks become the standard. PM with that link if you get a chance!

    Thanks.

Check your rep, but omniums feel differnent in terms of riding and bottom bracket. By that I mean I was able to trackstand easier because of the response I had while playing with the cranks.

After most of my friends try out my bike, they're that reluctant to go back on theirs because of just how "buttery smooth" it feels.

In terms of actiual "flex" I can't say much com ing from truvativ touros but flicking your finger against both metals sound radically differnt. There is no resonance with the omniums while the touros definitely have a ping sound.

Now I can't compare other type of bottom bracket/ cranks meets but I whole hearted encourage ppl to get omniums!

Usuallyy you can find cheaper than most cranksets like dura ace/ campy / sugino

I'll try coming on here more.. Misss sufu too much

P.s. Bikeforums (fg/ss forum) sucks haha

  9. If those are b43's laced to phils, aren't they heavy as fuck??

After having velo deep v's for nearly a year I think I wanna go to a lighter set or maybe even mavic ellipses

Oh yeah any of you guys pick up a turbo saddle? (reissue)

--ps can't post often, comp down.. Posting on iPod touch sucks

  10. arent 2010 bianchi super pistas 700-800 bucks new?

and use stiffer alloys than vigorellis / concepts?

im not a fan of the shape too much, but it still looks like a better buy than concepts.

havent been on in a long time...

considering the 2010 masi coltello for a next frame... but then again for the price bianchi super pista looks good also.

(P.S. if you guys are hesitant on upgrading your cranksets to omniums or any other cranks, get the omniums.

you feel a world of difference going from square-taper to the omniums.

(i got mine for 165 shipped! pm me for link, not sure if it's still gonna be that price)

  11. i was thinking about parents and technology. i get frustrated enough with my mom nagging me about the shitty pc laptop she uses. i would go crazy trying to teach her how to text or something.

    my dad doest understand the concept of wireless and how router location does not affect speed at all -_-;
