  1. everytime i see these it pisses me off they're not my size. i would need a 38/34. they made them but they're scarce. but yeah the denim on old LVC was heavy & dark and i prefer it to the newer stuff. i like the new stuff too but if i had a choice between 555/554 or the 4170 models no question what i'd choose.

It pisses me off that I'm not a size 30 waist anymore. Over the past couple of months, I have come across several 555 LVCs with a size 30 waist when I would keep all of them if they were size 32.

I prefer the heavier and darker denim from the older LVCs than the denim on the current LVCs. I tried on a pair of '47 501s from the current season and even prefer the denim and fit of my '47 501's from 2007. I will be buying a pair of LVC's from the current season if I do not find any older LVC's in my size soon.

  2. With all the recent talk of Levi's produced in the Valencia St. Factory, coincidentally, I came across this pair of LVC 1963 551zxx dated July 1996, yesterday. The denim is darker and not as thick as the denim on the LVC 201xx 555's I had.

I was able to fit them on but the crotch area is a bit tight. These jeans were preshrunk, so I am wondering if they would stretch out. I am thinking that a crotch blowout later down the line would be inevitable.

They appear to be never worn and they are stamped "Irregular" with the Levi's red tab cut off..

  3. Levi's LVC 201xx jeans released June 1996.

These jeans were produced in the 555 Valencia St. Levi's Factory as a one-wash pair. These have never been worn and still have the tags attached. These jeans were discontinued after their release because of the dissimilarities to the old 201 Levi's jeans which did not have the same details.

    - June 1996 original issue

    - 555 stamped top button

    - 12.5 oz XX Selvedge denim

    - Button fly

    - Chain-stitched hem

    - Selvedge coin pocket

    - Cinch back and belt loops

    - One-sided Big 'E' tab

    - Two-horse leather patch

    - Hidden copper rivets

These jeans are tagged 30x40 but the measurements are as follows:

    Waist - 29-1/2" (74.9 cm)

    Front Rise - 11" (27.9 cm)

    Back Rise - 14-3/4" (37.5 cm)

    Upper Thigh - 11-1/8" (28.3 cm)

    Knee - 8-7/8" (22.5 cm)

    Thank you for looking.

  4. the denim is completely different than the 37 501. the two have nothing in common other than the yr model LVC assigned. i really couldn't think of two more different pairs. the 37 201's are great jeans if you can go with the quirks. some can't and i understand. it took me a while to decide to try a pair. i learned to like them a great deal after a little customization. they have quite a cult following these days.

So the denim is different and they have several differences.

    What customizations did you do?

    Thanks for the help everyone.

  5. These shrink big time. This size 30 will shrink up to 2.5 inches on the waist. This is proper shrink to fit. My old 36 waist shrunk down to a 32.5.

Someone on sufu might buy them.

    .

I've been thinking about this since I first tried them on. I feel like they are going to be put up for sale because I won't get the chance to properly wear them out. If only it was possible to exchange them in this day and time at a store for the correct size.

The LVC1937 201s are much trimmer than LVC 1937 501s.

Thanks for that correction. On the first page of this thread you have a picture of both pairs of jeans in your collection (back in '06'), so you would know the distinctions of the two. The denim is the same though right? They were both from the same factory from the same looms?

  6. Research more thoroughly and you'll find that they are in fact an incorrect '501xx' :)

    .

Right! I've read that they are almost identical to the 1937 501xx. From looking at pictures of both, they do appear to have the same fit and details (arcs slightly different).

i think they only made then in 96&97. real quirky, i like mine. they are slow to fade but the denim is very tough. you'd really have to work hard to wear these out.

I was thinking they were only made from 96-97 also because they discontinued the model because of its discrepancies. Although, another member on this forum said he had purchased several 201's with a leather patch over the course of several years. I'm not sure if he purchased 201s from different seasons or if he purchased several pairs from the same season over the course of several years.

I'm debating if I should try to wear them because as of now, I can't button the top button. Also, the length is a little too long for my liking and I would probably have them shortened.

  7. I bought these jeans and was amazed to find out that they were a reproduction made in '96. I spent some time researching them and found out that these jeans are an "incorrect" reproduction of 201's. The patch on these is leather and they are made of Cone Mills denim with a slightly heavier weight of 12 oz. rather than 10 oz. These were produced in the 555 Valencia St. factory and were not continued due to the mistakes of the details.

The denim is hairy and is deep blue in color. I've read that Levi's released a raw pair and a pre-washed pair of these. I've read several posts by airfrogusmc in which he stated that these jeans are slow to fade. They fit snug at the waist but tend to loosen up down the leg like all of the 201s. The selvedge is close to pink which looks amazing. They have the hidden rivets in the back pockets and the crotch rivet.

If anyone has more information on these, such as the years produced until, how many seasons they were sold in, or anything else that may be of interest, please share. The last discussion of these in this thread was back in 2009.
