  1. yeah, i'm glad you agree. i think videodrome is iconic as far as true cinema with a cyberpunk theme. i didn't even think about inland empire. i bought that the day it came out. i'm discovering that simply through my love of cronenberg and lynch i'm a pretty huge realist-cyberpunk fan.f-article-07-05-inland_empire.jpg

SO COMPLETELY UNSETTLING. I really need to watch this again.

  2. PEEP THIS:

(a couple snipets--seriously get your hands on this, keep in mind this came out in 1998)

    THEN THIS:

and if this interests you, you may also like another avant-hardcore punk/thrash metal group headed by sax-legend John Zorn with vocals from Yamatsuka Eye (Boredoms)

One frightening (to me) occurence in avant metal as of late is the power Mike Patton (Faith No More) wields over it. I find his additions to the genre are always uninnovative and lame, but he's collaborated with: John Zorn, The Melvins, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Sepultura, Merzbow, Eyvind Kang.

Sorry about the tirade, gentlemen. I hope this is at least (slightly) interesting.

    Seriously, Faith No More?

  3. do any of you guys like witch? or has anyone heard the normally avant composer, eyvind kang's dying ground recording? it's fucking amazing. that shit will blow your mind. incredibly intense and incredibly hard to come by.

those jap avant composers can make some obscenely good metal

  4. currently writing a paper on laplace's absolute determinism and how we can deduce a morality from a human existence that is causally determined and no action or instance can occur by 'blind chance'

using hobbes to imply a morality but also thinking there's an intrinsic morality to laplace also...

    any thoughts?

  5. does anyone have good advice on how to clean off brake pad residue from the sidewalls of my rims?

the bike was originally a single speed with brakes so the braking surface is very dull looking.

  6. hey guys

i'm currently riding a specialized langster fixed gear in atlanta. i use 48X16 gearing. it's not too bad since i ride mainly flatland or mellow hills but i can't seem to skid. i don't care too much, but just wondering what kind of insight you guys can give me.

i also REALLY want to add some colors to my bike (it's the flat grey/black with white decals, stock components(picked it up for $200!)) so any suggestions for grips, tires, bars, chains, etc to add some color would be much appreciated.

i LOVE riding fixed. no need for that freewheel that the langster came with anymore!

  7. currently reading dostoyevsky's the idiot which is marvelous! its depiction of morality is so complex and the character meditations are wonderfully gritty. the prince is such a wonderful contrast with the rest of the cast.

i'm also reading van gogh's bad cafe by frederic tuten. he's a contemporary author but the text is extremely ambitious. check out his literary clout: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederic_Tuten

can anyone offer any insight / tips / suggestions on Cormac McCarthy, Thomas Pynchon, or Gaddis?

  8. this is my first post on the superfuture boards! i have lurked the denim and bike forums for a long time, but i couldn't resist some philosophical conversation.

i attend a small liberal arts university in atlanta named oglethorpe. i am in my second year of study in philosophy. the course work is absolutely fascinating and my professors are brilliant! i have studied ancient philosophy (courses on both plato and aristotle,) aesthetics (ranging from wittgenstein to bazin,) and i am currently enrolled in a course titled Space, Time and God which is absolutely fascinating. i am currently writing an essay on the differing perspectives of lucretius and aristotle on universal infinity and the religious implications of their beliefs. i'm absoilutely thrilled to see all of you engaging philosophically.

if anyone has any questions or topics of conversation regarding aesthetics i would be quite interested. i recently attended a lecture regarding the aesthetics of truffaut (french new wave director) regarding his direction, cinematography, and many other aspects of his films. i was quite excited to hear visiting professors quoting bazin in a context outside of class.

** i too intend to pursue a career in law**
