  1. 1. San Diego - I don't really know what there is to do here but damn, the weather is perfect.

    2. Chicago - I've only been there for about 5 hours but I fell in love immediately. There was something beautiful about it but I don't know what. Maybe it was the snow. It doesn't snow here.

    3. San Francisco - Haven't been there in a while but like Chicago, it's a beautiful place with lots to do.

I'm sure New York and Boston would round out my list but I've never been to either.

  2. Yeah, I thought about how I would garner that kind of response after I said it. I meant the way that Christian Dior was all about the "New Look" and the big busts and skinny waists while I think of YSL being about the bold pantsuit and the tuxedo which is just about as far away from the New Look as you could get. Yes, YSL made couture that was very opulent (Now that I look back, I wouldn't be surprised if some of it was CD couture), maybe even wacky, but I don't see that as HIS biggest contribution.

  3. I would also like to throw Calvin Klein up there as an important designer for simplifying clothes, but I wouldn't say his designs were groundbreaking, just pleasing.

I'm not a big fan of over-embellishment, so I don't necessarily like Lagerfeld or Galliano. I used to see Chanel as the brand a classy woman would wear. Now, with his trendy new bags each season, young girls are strutting around with them and ruining the class associated with the brand. However, I think Lagerfeld proved that he can still make a Chanel suit the right way this season. I get tired of Galliano. When I look at fashion, I try to think of an occasion to which you can wear a certain outfit and I don't see his designs changing with the times. But that only goes to show that he's doing his job right, making people appreciate all the nonsense he creates. If that makes sense.

I'm curious as to what Yves Saint Laurent designed while at Dior. I can't imagine his style being anything like Christian Dior's.

  4. I wonder if Yves Saint Laurent is doing a runway presentation. I liked the video for fall but it's nice to see the clothes as they would look on a person walking, not just specially fitted to look extra good on film or a photo. I

'll be in Shanghai for Milan and in Beijing for Paris. I hope I don't have to wait to get back home to see the collections. I'll be busy as hell, I don't know if I'll have time to find a computer.

  5. I was browsing through some old threads on Shanghai but I didn't really find any specific information that would help me.

I'm going to be in Shanghai, Beijing, and Guilin in the middle of June and I would like to go shopping with some friends. I already have plans for hotelss, food, acrobatic shows, and all the other touristy stuff (I'm going with a group.)

I probably have a day to shop in Shanghai and Beijing each, if not only Shanghai.

I'm from San Diego and I could just go to LA for Marc Jacobs, but I don't really feel like driving up to Hollywood if I'm already going to Shanghai. Does anybody know anything about MJ in Shanghai on Nanjing Road or the MMJ in the China World Shopping Mall in Beijing? I'm not too concerned about anything else besides this. Being from California, I'm sure I could I could easily find MJ or MMJ in Bloomingdales any day, but I'm hoping the Special Items are available here. I would like a new wallet that I can abuse. I'm using one of them $20 MJ wallets with the removable ID thingy and it's kind of fat. I should've bought a skinner one while I was in Hollywood but I was stupid and didn't.

Also, should I buy anything at Plaza 66 or I.T. or should I wait until I get back home and possibly catch summer sales at South Coast Plaza?

Are fabric stores common on Nanjing Road? I'm sure the Chinese textile industry is pretty big...

Thanks for any help you guys have.

  6. Abercrombie is not a classic brand by any means. It doesnt even produce or sell what it became famous for. How can they be 'classic'. Do you even know the heritage of Abercrombie? I think you might have old and classic mixed up.

I could be wrong but I think originally, Abercrombie and Fitch even sold items that they didnt produce. It was more of a general outdoor and camping store.

    You're right.

I forgot about Burberry until Halifamous mentioned it. I'm not exactly sure how they evolved over the years but even though Burberry Prorsum factories are in italy, their classic trenches are still made in England. Is anybody aware of th quality of the brand today?

  7. I would say Shanghai but since I'm already planning to go this summer, I've been interested in Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires recently. I'm mostly interested in the food but I wouldn't mind seeing the beaches and the people.

And I want to go to Kentucky.I don't think there's anything to do but I met a guy from Kentucky once. He was interesting.

  8. I know FIT has a menswear major, are there any other American schools with that? I haven't found any other schools that have courses specifically catered for menswear, but maybe I haven't done enough research.

  9. I'm buying a lot of slimmer bottoms this season, but I'm also buying looser tops. I look too short with loose bottoms.

And even though I live in SoCal, I'm trying to get away from the hoodie and t-shirt combination. I think I've had enough of it for a while, but I can always go back to it whenver I want. I'm just trying to fill my closet with more basics. That means no more graphic tees or hoodies, more solids, and more black and white.

  10. I looked at the first 5 looks and I was finished. The collection didn't really make sense to me, and black clothes on a black background just seems like a bad presentation to me. I actually saw potential for Dior to become a "classy" label after S/S08, but I don't get a classy vibe from this, and I don't get a Rock & Roll vibe either, so I just think I'm going to forget like it ever happened and hope for better future collections, because I'm sure LVMH won't allow Dior to become a big huge flop.

  11. Thanks guys.

I didn't end up going to Rodeo Drive, but parking was actually not so bad on Melrose. I had a spot right next to Marc Jacobs and I think it was 2 quarters and hour. We somehow found ourselves on Robertson so we looked around and I didn't really like ANY of the stores I passed by. Everybody yaps on and on about Kitson so I went into Kitson Men.

Worst shop in the world. The store was small, the ceilings were too low, and the stuff was overpriced.

I think I can rip my own t-shirt.

  12. My family just made the last minute decision to drive up to LA tomorrow. However, I want to visit the stores on Melrose AND Rodeo Drive (My mom wants to see Rodeo Drive, although I'm sure it's just boutiques piled upon boutiques.)

What's parking like? Can we just park along the sidewalk and hope our car is still there when we come back? Or are there dedicated parking structures for different areas in LA and Beverley Hills?
