  1. Question about chain tension.

My Chains been popping off like crazy so I flipped my bike upside down and pulled the hub back then loosened my stack bolts and found that one was stuck in the spider and wouldn't loosen so I could hand tighten. Still don't get sheldons tutorial about tapping the taught chain to move the chain ring on the spider.. how ever this could be failing because of the stripped stack bolt correct? I tried loosening it with a stack bolt tool and a allen key and it still didn't work. Perhaps the tool was the wrong size?

Maybe red grips on the top? Iono...

Iono dude I ride the same bike in 64 and i wear my red vans and i feel like an american flag. Niiice bars though, really give the bike a different aesthetic. Anything but red imo!

  4. This has been said a million times just as people have made the mistake of buying aerospokes a million times. They're overpriced, heavy, and inferior. Of course that's just me not hating, just saying.

  5. This might sound like a stupid question but would swapping out a set of handle bars that match my shoulder width of 47 cm for 43 cm make that much of a change in comfort if i'm riding in the hoods of my bullhorns?

  6. i think this has been mentioned but any good helmets around ??

im not totally into the bmx hardshell helmets nor the aerodynamic bell helmet type of deal.

looking for somethign when i go on long rides (its illegal for minors to have no helmet. over here)

Same I'm looking for a road bike helmet with deeper coverage in general. I find that a lot of road bike helmets are just shallow for my tall ass head. Well in comparison with the rest of my 6'5 self i guess it's not so tall. :]

  7. being that i've overcome mild retardation and learned to ride a bike finally, i'd like some recos:

    - max price ideally would be less than $4-$500

    - probably mostly for street and trails

    - i am fucking big and will need a big bike

    help!

Are you like big tall or heavy?

  8. I use L clips and have no issue with toe overlap because of my giant fucking 60cm frame. People with 50cm frames or whatever won't be so lucky. It was a problem for me when I had fenders on my bike and it drove me crazy.

That aint shit I'm lugging around a 64.

  9. Based on the extensive information that I've been given, I'd say that at approximately 417 miles your front wheel is going to explode in a display of spokey spokiness.

Thanks jedi. I don't ride clips either.

  10. Well the geometry isn't really legitimate pursuit geometry. Affinity's are designed - at least as I understand - to appear like pursuits, not not really ride like them. Particularly at my relatively low seat height, I'm not any more sloped than one would be one any standard street-intended fixed gear, IRO's, Pake's, Surly's, etc.

Also, salty_road, re: my arms being bent, they aren't, but - and I'm not asking this defensively, but truly curiously - I don't understand how bent arms or my Nitto promenades would translate to discomfort? My impression is bent arms mean more comfort, as opposed to straight arms ensured by locking your elbows. Do school me, because I just don't know...

I'm new to bike fit as well man, but what I do know that it is suggested that there be a 30 degree bend in your elbows when your in riding position in order to absorb shock. If your arms are locked the pressure from bumps on the road will cause you sore muscles. Not to mention you're probably exerting unessicary pressure on your muscles by remaining in a stressed position. You should get a stem with a shorter top tube to put you closer to the bars or slide your seat forward.

    Question

I unfortunately went to bike line the other day being unlucky and living in the mainline ( a suburb outside of philadelphia) there isn't much expertise on fixed gear builds at the local bike shops. My pa bought me a quick release Shimano wheel the other day. Should I be worried about tension on the hub when coming down from wheelies, bunny hopping, and dropping off of curbs? This is my first wheel change since purchasing my stock Motobecane messenger. I weigh about 185. thx

  11. In order to check that it would require me to purchase the straps beforehand having had known. Sorry for not trolling the pages in a search that could be so inconsistent on a thread with 864874984096 pages. I'm used to the search option being rather incohesive. I appreciate the response!
