What's really interesting about some of Miike's films is that he uses extreme genre scenarios to promote pretty standard family values (i.e. Visitor Q, Happiness of the Katakuris).

Yes, very true. Actually, I more or less enjoy most of his movies and shorts for this very element. He's definitely a bit of an inconsistent director, but always quite interesting. It's been awhle back, but Visitor Q, to this point, has been the only movie where I was thinking "WTF" every 5 mins though, especially that end scene... Man, that was just sooo fck'ed up...haha, shit, I felt dirty when the end creds started rolling. All of you curious...rent it, you will know what I mean.

Miike is a pretty wacky guy, but even for him, Visitor Q is just a sick, sick movie, in the most disturbing way. I'm not sure how people could regard this as good or even passable cinema.

But thinking about it now, I kind of want to re-watch it again to see why I thought it was so revolting initially, so maybe it is decent afterall...haha, go figure.

For slick hair, isn't pomade the best option? American Crew makes a decent holding/looking pomade. I heard from some girls you can soak your hair in olive oil for awhile, and it'll soften your hair and give it that wet luster...but that shit sounds just nasty...

For those Japanese/Korean looks...Sebastian crude clay works pretty well; Gatsby's clays works the same pretty much, 9 bucks for 50grams, slightly cheaper I think.

But what all those mags don't tell you is that unless they perm that shit, it usually takes like a good 20-30+ mins to get their hair looking like that...

I thought Infernal Affairs was a better movie. The Departed was pretty good, but I thought the pacing of the moving was way too long-winded and almost tedious.

Save from some better dialogue, better editing, and a better written female psychiatrist character/role, The Departed kind of felt like a wannabe Heat with an Infernal Affairs plot, sans the overall atmosphere, suspense, and dual-lead acting quality of both.
