  1. I refused to believe that you actually cooked that shit yourself.. you are stealing shots from some culinary websites, fucker!! hahHAHAHahah

valhalla don't fall for it - su8m3rg3d is just trying to cop a free meal by getting you to prove the authenticity of your post by cooking for him. :P

i know he cooked that shit 'cos he stole the recipe from me.

  2. haha yes you guys need to come on down to our little island, if nothing else, for the grub.

food is good and relatively affordable. most people actually eat out more than at home simply because you can get a tasty meal for less than 3 USD at a coffeeshop/hawker centre. for that most recent meal with my friends, with all that pasta and sausages and what not, it came up to around only 15USD per person.

in any case, i think the general culture here in singapore is such that people are more ready to spend on their food than on fashion. our boutiques come and go, but the people running eateries which serve good food are rollin' in the dough.

  3. piggin' out and hoggin' the thread.

    whassup princess?

    whats mom cooking tonight?

i wouldn't know cos i have to work. why don't you drop by and find out. my mum's a nice lady - she'll give you food, and teach you manners for free.

you know what would be really nice? if you weren't smiling for the camera. it would be nice if your smile was due to the gyrations/vibrations of that little rocket/car/whatever-ride you are sitting on.

ya it would be nice wouldn't it? but no can do lah - cos the picture would have come out blur if the ride was actually movin.

  6. nicola conte!

i dig nicola conte too! and koop, and kyoto jazz massive and...

very fond of the old skool big band stuff too: count basie et al. the vocalese, like kurt elling. the standards singers like ella, louie and stacey kent, and then there's always miles and coltrane, wayne shorter's stuff, dave brubeck stuff...

jazz is so diverse within itself as a genre though. i think much of the hate/misunderstanding comes from the fact that it's been adopted as medium of choice for some of those who play with no heart, and only intellectualised technical abilities. but the best jazz is never without a deep seated expression of human weakness/strength, as it was so from the very genesis of it.

  7. had some tasty shite today but in our excitement to stuff our faces i only realised i hadn't taken any pics after the plates were polished. still kickin' myself for it.

that said, julian, sean and axtsang - great pics. keep em' coming guys!

  8. food looks delicious...but one think i don't agree with is the shark fin soup. i'm not an activist, but the way these animals are treated is unacceptable. i'm hoping this film will make an impact on some people who weren't aware of the situation previously:

    http://www.sharkwater.com/

btw...soepom, you're fits are always great!

yah - whenever sharksfin is served, i eat it with ambivalence. I'm aware of the violence done to sharks in harvesting their fins, and i wouldn't order the dish on my own. but if it's already cooked...i savour every last drop, telling myself at least the shark didn't suffer in vain. it's fucked up rationalisation, but it's how i deal with the conflict between my eco-conscience and hedonistic desire.

my mum has also cut down on preparing with real sharksfin - most of the time she uses mock sharksfin with crabmeat instead. but cultural symbols for celebration and hospitality are at the heart of the issue here, rather than mere dietary choice. the bowl of sharksfin cannot simply be replaced with any other soup or ingredient.

  9. You made your Mom cook her own meal on her own birthday? weak.

Au contraire. I allowed her to cook only 'cos it's her birthday. Otherwise I force the family to eat stale bread with water every other day of the year, because the truth is we can't afford to eat well 'cos the whole family's expenses goes to buying ridiculously expensive articles of clothing for me.

  10. Food looks fantastic... +1 for your mum.

Just had Sunday Brunch at Marmalade Pantry

Foie Gras Burger and Chocolate Truffle Cake :)

aw man! I love the food at marmalade pantry! artichoke and feta cheese salad and sticky date pudding is the shite! *drool*

anyhoos, yah just look at what my mum prepared and you know she loves to cook - any event is an opportunity for her to show off. Her birthday is no exception. My job is to praise her to skies, as she well deserves.

I am of course showing my filial piety to her by taking her out to dinner and introducing her to shisha at arab street on top of getting her some auntie equivalent of hypebeastin heats.

so you guys, post some pics of the grub you're eating, good or bad!

  11. Some say you are what you wear, but here's a thread for those who believe you are what you eat!
