  1. 02DERIV reminds me a lot of the rip van winkle discussion from earlier. They don't seem to have a consistent aesthetic to me. At the least I think it's fair to say they're a more recent adopter of the "tech" style. I've seen a fair amount of their stuff second hand and it doesn't look bad at all, but it's nothing that really stands out to me. I'm not sure at all what their retail is like (I don't even know where they sell in Japan), but it's not too expensive used. It just begs the question of why them when there's a whole lot of other stuff available at arguably higher quality and similar price points.

I guess this is the eternal question.. Someone's buying it I guess.

  2. FYI, the blog listed above is for a shop in Nagoya, Japan called Mapoli de Marseille. They have a pretty extensive selection of SI shadow. I live in Nagoya and have been in the shop a few times. In addition to the current season they still have the stuff they haven't yet sold from previous collections. It is a sort of treasure trove of SI shadow going several seasons back. The only problem is that they never mark it down. It's always at full Japanese retail, which is more expensive than retail pretty much anywhere else. Still, they do have a fair amount of stuff that is completely unavailable anywhere else.

There are two other stone island stockists in Nagoya that carry the shadow range, not to mention the second hand shops. There is a surprisingly good selection out here for some reason.

  3. Anyone knows where can I get Acronym stuff in Tokyo besides the listed retailer on the website? Looking for older stuffs, and bags, don't mind second hand stuff.

    Thanks!

Like most places, getting acronym stuff in Tokyo is not particularly easy. I think it boils down to very small production on ACR's part, which makes previous season stuff difficult to come across. Komehyo in Shinjuku occasionally has some ACR on the top floor. Otherwise, it is up to the luck of the draw at the various second hand shops around town. I have seen a stray piece pop up here and there, but it is not especially common.

  4. The closet is by far the best in my opinion. There's another consignment store on newbury street I forget the name of that's not bad. Second time around is mostly a miss. There's also a buffalo exchange in allston where you can get lucky sometimes. That's pretty much it in my opinion. Usually quality + great price = not around very long.

  5. I'm in Japan and have ordered from bench at the greene before. They're good, although sometimes their stock isn't up to date (some stuff is sold out when it's listed as available on the site). They're professional and quick though. You will definitely pay the 5% sales tax.

  6. The reflective material topic one is an interesting one to me. Anyone know what kind of material stone island uses then? It seems like they also use some kind of treatment on the colored reflective jackets. Sounds like either way you've got a somewhat restricted lifespan for those kinds of jackets, which I guess shouldn't be too surprising.

  7. Thought I would chime in with a review of the ch-j3b. Material is quite interesting for sure and probably the best part of it. I've worn it in rain, wind, the cold and heat. The heat retention is pretty good and it is pretty breathable. Highly water and wind repellent. Cool details.

As far as the fit goes, I am glad I sized up. A medium would have very likely been too tight. Here is a bit of stretch to the material, but it does seem slimmer than typical acronym.

Overall I would say its worth the steep price. I would be curious to check out the ch-j31, as the cut seems interesting. Lately I've been trying to track down some older season shadow project stuff though.

  8. I'm much more into the black than petrol. I'm a medium in something more traditional like visivm. I've got 4 acronym jackets, 2 medium and 2 large. The mediums I have are a bit tight for my taste actually, while the larges have been spot-on. Given the small measurements of the jacket I was thinking the XL might be the best way to go, which is why I was asking about the stretch. On Errolson and the haven model they seem to fit well as a medium, and I'm about their size, but normally like a somewhat loose fit. I don't want it skin tight or anything.

I'm still thinking the XL is the best way to go, as I'd prefer a jacket that's a bit big and can be layered underneath, rather than one that's too small and you can't do anything about.

  9. Thanks for the info. I'm going to go for the XL then, seems to be my desired fit based on the measurements. I'll report back here how it goes once it arrives.

  10. The new, thinner CH fabric (Schoeller WB400) is incredibly comfortable, warm and cozy, amazing for such a thin fabric. I'd pick that over any GT fabric, unless you need that full waterproof protection. It is definitely more of a cool spring type material than summer though. The fabric insulates heat and Energear-tech supposedly reflects far infrared rays back to the body. Although I'm a little skeptical, it does feel like there is some form of heat (like that from a hot stone) radiating back to the skin. Should be absolutely brilliant and super cozy in colder weather. Too bad I live in the tropics! The jacket itself (J31) exceeded all expectations for me, it's a very interesting mix of a biker jacket and japanese-inspired (Kimono Gusset Block) period wear. The silhouette is simultaneously clean and complex (zipped up vs open); modern and traditional; East meets West; a rebel ninja martial arts bike jacket cut from the best softshell fabric yet. It's the kind of protective garment you won't find anywhere else. Instant classic.

Appreciate the comments on the ch series. Does the material have a stretch? There is a huge disparity in the measurements between the ch-j3b and ch-j31. I think it's partly due to the construction, where the j3b doesn't use the same kimono gusset block. I'm thinking of going for the j3b, but the larges are all pretty much sold out. So it's either an M or XL. A 48cm chest seems much too narrow for me given their usual sizing. Anyone have any thoughts? Worth sizing up?

  11. Anybody get the ch-j3b? Or the ch-j31? I'm on the fence about getting one of those or a shadow project gore tex coat. How do you the the ch series holds up? Worth the price of admission?

  12. Was in Boston for a while but no longer. Bodega is the best in the city by far in my opinion, although their netshop is much better than the actual store. There's a definite lack of cool shops in Boston, but you knew that already. I personally liked the closet on newburry a lot. They periodically get in some 45 rpm, visvim and various other japanee brands. They're second hand, so prices are reasonable. Concepts in cambridge also has some ok stuff but pricey.

  13. Price = $225 -- $200

Price Includes EMS shipping from Japan and paypal fees. No looking for trades unless you've got some acronym in M or L. Please PM if interested. Payment by Paypal only.

Extremely rare - only available from the Indigo Camping Trailer shop in Harajuku, offered here basically for retail and none of those pesky proxy fees, and likely never to be seen again. As you can see, the price tag is still attached, at just under 20,000 yen Japanese retail. I am also including the indigo camping trailer shopping bag and other packaging, with the exception of the blue string that tied it together. I seem to have misplaced it. The shirt is in perfect condition.

Details include indigo dyed neck and sleeve ringers, indigo patch and garment dye job throughout the rest. Size 2 fits like a slightly slim medium and measures 19" across the chest, 16.5" across the shoulders and 26" in length.
