It depends on what you want altered(tailored) , how you want it altered, and where you go. It can range anywhere from $5-$40 and even more sometimes.

i have a couple of polo shirts (size S) that are now too big on me. is it possible for me to take them to a tailor and have them slimmed down/tapered a little? thanks

Im pretty sure you can get them altered like this although taking it in around the torso may look weird if the arms and neck areas are still a little big. You may be better off just buying some new polos, especially if all the alteration costs add up.
