  1. Thanks a lot! So You say that Ritz is better than Park Hyatt then? I will look into IP more also.

    Thanks again!

I've stayed at the IP. It's a great location. I actually really like Itaewon once you get a way from the Hamilton Hotel area. (Especially down the hill with all the cafes/stationary stores etc) The public spaces in the hotel are pretty nice and the rooms are FINE. (Not awesome, but fine) The hallways inside the hotel, on the actual floors though...they look like they're out of a horror movie. Short of blood smeared on the walls, I'm not sure how they could do worse; I expected Tyrant to bust out at any moment to eat my brains.

I've done all the typical Business hotels too -- Korean hotels suck and the variance in prices is MASSIVE.

The Hyatt has some pluses; it's on top the hill in Itaewon and has pretty cool views @ Circle Bar + JJ Mahoneys is hilarious + high # of high end transvestite hookers prowl the lobby.

The Ritz is 'nice' and when it's @ ~200 a night is a pretty good value; room wise + hotel wise, it's the nicest place I've been.

Hilton/Park/Koreana -- avoid, overpriced, mediocre locations (Koreana used to have rep for their 'massages')

Conrad -- nice but you will kill yourself in boredom in Yeouido...cabs in Korea are like 5$ though

I'd definitely go back to the IP despite the haunted house hallways + kinda shitty bathrooms -- especially if its substantially cheaper than the biz hotel options. AFAIK there's nowhere awesome that's worth paying up for.

As for other areas/hotels? In Tokyo? Or wherever? Izu/Kanagawa has some awesome hotels/ryokans/beach stuff.

  2. Thanks guys. Cerulan it is for our first 4 days then!

We will go to Seoul for 5 days after that and be back in Tokyo for another 5 days before going home. I would like to change hotels for the second period to switch location a bit.

. Any other good areas/hotels to consider? (also Seoul hotel recs? I have looked at Marriot, and IP so far)

  3. Hi guys! I will combine Seoul with a Tokyo trip this July/August. Never been to Seoul. Plans for the stay are the usual shopping/clubbing/eating.

Any rec´s for hotels (and what area to live) would be great. Budget is up to around USD250/night.

    Thanks!

  4. Thanks for answering!

I prefer a well designed boutique hotels  but the girlfriend likes high end business hotels (think four seasons etc.) So any of these would do. I will probably spend time in Daikanyama, Shinjuku etc. Good shopping and good eveneing/night life are priority but cop jawnz beats party in ropps :).

I have looked at The Tokyo Station Hotel also which seems rather old school luxorious and maybe could be nice?

  5. Any advice for a cool hotel in Tokyo. Budget tops around USD300/night but cheaper would be great. I have looked at Park Tower and Cerulean so far.

(I know there are a Tokyo Hotels thread but it´s updated in 2008)...

    Thanks!

  6. Trying to find some decent clothing for alpine skiing.

Brands considered so far are Arc´teryx (non veilance), Patagonia, Norröna and more. I want something more than a one-layer but not heavy inusulated pants/jacket.

All the GoreTex, eVent and similar techy jackets and pants are wide and boxy even in size small. I am even considering womens stuff for better fits but there has to be something else out there???

    Advice?

    Thanks!

  7. Hi,

Going to Mexico City pover New Years this year. Never been before. We´d like to stay in Condesa preferably at a Boutique hotel or a local hotel at a decent price. After 1 week we´re going to La Ventana to Kite surf and I know nothing of hotels or other things there either.

All lodging and other tips for what to do in Mexico are much appreciated!

  8. I would like to add speakers to a newly decorated room very far from my receiver (room 2).

Currently I have two wired speakers from my receiver which in turns receive an optical cable from the computer in room 1.

I have a Time capsule as my main router and one Airport express set up as an extension of the network. So the signal is ok in all rooms

Any suggestions for speakers in room 2 that can be combined with my current setup and play in sync? Preferably wireless but I could also buy a third Airport express to plug into the speakers however I have heard that the more access points You have the worse Your WIFI network performs.

    Thanks for all suggestions!

    /K
