  1. I bought a pair of SD-003's when I went to Japan in March so they never fell off for me, but I do agree that there hasn't been much talk about them. Maybe we should keep it that way so we can be an exclusive pig club :)

I bought the sd-003 for the fit and a pair of s0500xx for the denim. At first I didn't like the SDA denim (10X or 00X) but I am beginning to appreciating the very regular tight dark weave of the sd-003. I haven't soaked or worn the 0500 yet so we'll see how I feel about those when I start wearing them.

  2. Is the only difference between the 003 and 103 RHT & LHT, respectively (that rhymes :)) ? I know LHT supposed to be softer, but other than that, they should be the same? For example, a 103 in a size 36 and a 003 in a size 34 would be comparable?

Sorry for the personal questions. I would PM, but they seem to be down, yes i've checked the superoff. forum.

I agree with iamstarwars on his reply. I didn't really notice the gray weft difference when I was trying them on in Japan but that seems to be what people say. I believe the 003 is 14oz while the 103 is 15 oz. The 003 also has lighter tan stitching while the 103 has a brighter orange stitching. I also think this is discussed in this thread or Mike Lowry's thread.

I'm guessing your right about 103 size 36 = 003 size 34. I'd go down two sizes in 003 of what you think you wear in 103. I was actually thinking this earlier but didn't write it down. However, this is just an idea so don't quote me on it. I'd definately get atleast 1 size smaller in 003 than 103 though based on what I've read abot 103 shrinking and the lack of shrinking for 003.

  3. I think the key thing for future buyers is the difference between 103 and 003 sizing. My 003 in tagged 30 seem to have similar measurments to Justin's 103 tagged 32 (both post-soak/wash). Its probably due to the denim. I have a feeling that they are cut to the same measurements pre-soak, but the 103 shrinks to tagged size while the 003 has minimal shrinkage. This is my observation atleast.

  4. Sorry for the delay. I didn't get around to soaking them till a week after my previous post and then I was in pm convo's but never posted here.

    SD-003 tagged size 30

    pre-soak/post-soak:

    waist - 32/31.5

    front rise - 11/10.5

    back rise - 15/14.5

    thigh - 24.5/24

    inseam - 36.75/35.25

    knee - 9/8.875

    hem - 8.5/8.25

I soaked them for an hour in the hottest water that comes out of my tap, which is damn hot. The water was luke warm/cool at the end of the hour. As you can see they didn't shrink much (waist still bigger than tagged size). I thought it might be because I "only" soaked them for 1 hour. However, in pm's with 'iamstarwars' he said that his 003's didn't shrink much even after 3 soaks totaling 24 hours plus using dryer so I decided to just wear them after the 1 hour soak.

I've worn them for a few days now. I've been pulling them down to my hips/butt to try to stretch the waist and its stretched a little, but not that much. I'm sure they they will strech some more, but I'm not expecting them to stretch too much. Everything besides the waist is probably loose enough so that those parts won't stretch out much, if at all.

I'll post pics later, but in terms of fit they are definately not tight, and on the loose side of "slim." I have a RRDS in size 30 and I'd say the RRDS are tighter than these. Then again, I've only worn these for three days and I've had the RRDS for 6 months with one wash recently.

Thats a long post but feel free to ask questions by posting or pm. I'm mostly a lurker but I'm happy to share my "knowledge" on what I know/have. I'll post pics when I get around to them and updates in 4-6 months.

  5. Edit: Don't care as much now that the horns lost, but still might be interested since the games will be on in the morning instead of in the middle of the night.

I'm going to Tokyo on Wednesday (21st) and I really want to watch the Texas UNC game. Any recommendations on bars that would have the game on? I realize that the timing won't be ideal. I'm thinking somewhere in Roppongi since it sounds like expats hang around there. Thanks.

  6. I'm going to Tokyo on Wednesday and I'll be stoping by Supreme to buy stuff for my friend. I don't know anything about Supreme gear but if you want something I might be willing to pick it up for cost+small fee. PM me if anyone is interested.

  7. are you from styleforum? i answered the same question there, americaya sells SDA. keep in mind, hinoya and americaya are talked about b/c they're the bigger ones, there are tons of small shops carrying all different things down there...there wasn't one brand i didn't see

Hey poly, it was me who asked in styleforum. When I read seatiger's response (without looking at the name) I asked myself "did I post in SuFu too? But then I looked at the name and it confirmed my belief that I only asked in styleforum. Weird how he asked the exact same question with very similar wording.

    My question from styleforum:

Also, where could I find SDA's in Tokyo? Everyone talks about canes and sammies in Ueno, but no one mentions SDA's. I'm hoping/planning on going in March. Hopefully the new patch and arcuate will look good.
    seatiger's:
Are there any stores in Ueno that sell SDA? Probably going in Feb, hoping there are still lovely denim then.
  8. I don't know anything about Levi's so I was wondering if someone could ID these for me. Are they real, are they fake? If they are real, what year (they look new)?

Sorry about the link. I'm a noob at posting pics in forums and I couldn't find the thread that says the best way to post pics. If someone gives me a link to the thread I will post them the correct way.

    Thanks.

  9. This is a thread jack but...

Here is some info from a PM with The Black Arm who owns a pair:

Hi, Yes I do have a pair of the 1100s. I also have a pair of the 1210s. the 1100s are a fuller, classic cut. the 1210s are more slender, tapered cut. They're both pretty high rise, classic jeans. id say the denim's mid-weight. the one thing that i've noticed is the denim of the 1100s has turned out to be the slubbiest denim i've seen, great wear "streaks" if that makes sense. I put pictures up on the board a while back with some detail shots, i'll see if i can track them down. they both use yellow selvedge denim, the 1100s have back pocket rivets, 1210s don't

    Pics of his D+D's:

I tried on a pair at ABFits in San Franccisco and the denim is amazing. I would have bought them in a second if I wasn't going to Japan in March . It is 13 oz but is loosely woven so it feels thicker. It is also very soft in the one wash with no starch. They are $325 and ABFits is the only place in America that carries them because the ABFits owner knows the D+D owner. If no one buys my $200 store credit at a discount I might just pay the extra $125 and buy a pair since they're so nice.

  10. Has anyone compared the Dope+Drakkar denim to PBJ or Oni denim? I've heard that the D+D's are really slubby.

I'm thinking about getting a of D+D because I have a $200 store credit to ABFits and I can't find anything else there (and no one seems to want the store credit at a discount).

  11. yeah, nudies in particular seem to fade so much more after the first wash

I'm not sure what to do now. I've heard this before but now its being confirmed by poly and ddml.

I've worn my RRDS everyday for 3 months and I like how they are right now but I have minimal wear (as expected). I was planning on sticking to the "wait 6 months to wash" idea but now I'm wondering if I should wash them now. They don't smell at all so I would just be washing in hopes of quicker wear, not cleanliness. But like I said I also like how they are now .

I know this is a newbish question and its all personal preference but anyone have any comments/recommendations?

  12. I went into SelfEdge on Friday and they were indeed the 5000wx. Differences in the wx's:

    - red/blue laced with silver selvage

    - white tag on outer side of left back pocket with upside down A

    - leather patch with a sumo wrestler and a mountain

    - green back pocket paper tag and I believe it said model ozeki in small print

I compared the wx denim to the zero model black 5000vx they had and it looked like it was the same denim besides for the color difference. Other than the above differences they seemed to have the same details as the vx's (doughnuts, hidden, etc.). Hope that helps someone.

I still don't understand exactly why they have the wx "export" model (BiG has the vx). My only guess is that they sell the wx export model to places like hong kong or other asian markets.

  13. Is there a reason why SelfEdge would get the wx export model and BiG would get the regular vx model? I'm pretty sure I would have noticed the purple selvage on one side or the W in wx.

I guess we'll have to hear the final word from Kiya or Stuntastic.

  14. The 5000BK (LE or not), 5000vx, and 3000vx are all Zero models. I don't know what you mean by non-Zero 5000vx, you mean a jean with a different name and denim, but similar cut?

SelfEdge had Samurai 5000vx's (as indicated by both a small cloth inside tag and by kiya) but that were NOT Zero models. The large paper tag on the back pocket did not say Zero Model like the ones on Rakutan or BiG. They also had a different leather patch. I think it didn't have a mountain and either without or different looking samurai's. I saw them a month or two ago so I don't remember exaclty what the patch looked like, but it definately was a 5000vx.

This might be a better question for Kiya and Stuntastic at SelfEdge.

  15. I'm also curoius about the difference between the ZERO and non-ZERO. When I went to SelfEdge they had the non-ZERO (forget what it was) version of the 5000vx. What is the difference?

  16. Interesting that this comes up. My Japanese friend who is 4'11" and a typical skinny Japanese girl was wearing a denim skirt this weekend and I thought it looked good. Then I started to think where I could get one for my GF.

  17. Just got back from the store (2 hour lunch:)). Kiya and the other employee were really nice and knew their stuff. I liked how they had one of each style jean on display so you don't have to sift through every size of each style. Once you find the cut you want you ask them for a size and they find it out of a cabinet. I also thought the rebar staircase was pretty cool. I'm not very good at giving complete reviews of places so I'll leave that to other people.

I could list all the jean styles (and prices) that I saw but I'm not sure if Kiya wants that info out so I'll let him do that. I also just checked their website and it has changed into a "real" website instead of just the one screen front page. I noticed that they will be having an online store in late November. I figured that would be coming.

Good job Kiya. Everyone should check the place out if you get a chance. I'll probably be back in this weekend or before when I'm by myself and can check it out more thoroughly.
