  1. have a butcher at aether and orlebar brown.

have a pair of the aether button swim recommend them, smart enough to walk around in but good for a swim and dries really quickly. even though haven't got any orlebar shorts have a few other items of theirs and the quality is definitely up there.

    Sweet...those aether shorts look nice.

Is there a drawstring inside the shorts?

  2. For the person who is looking for quality boots for under $300, I've got some ideas. Not meant to be exhaustive, but it should help for people who don't want to read through the whole thread.

    Reasonably affordable work boots

    1. Red Wing - just wait for a clearance sale. I bought 875s in a different leather from Nordstroms for $160 earlier this year. I have chukkas from Redwing I think I paid $120 for. If you're flexible about when you buy and just keep looking (Black Friday is coming...), you'll find something.

    2. Thorogood - They're cheap (for their classic models, they also have expensive horsehide boots as well). They've got a decent heritage vibe. They'll likely last as long as you need them to (or at least until you decide you have to spend $400 on a pair of boots).

    3. Chippewa - Their classic workwear boots are very reasonably priced. They are working on coming out with a brand new heritage line (I saw the line at the Ace in NYC this year), but actually getting the boots to market is taking forever.

    4. Danner - The new Stumptown collection has a number of shoes/boots in your price range and Danner has a great reputation in the Pacific Northwest.

    5. William Lennon - Maybe the greatest price to value combination out there. I don't own a pair, but they look bulletproof and people seem to love them.

    Dress:

    1. Allen Edmonds - I know they're looked down upon, but the factory seconds/discontinued models for $150/pair are a great deal.

    2. Meermin - newer brand, some customer service issues (see the styleforum thread), but great value for money and more stylish/sleek than Allen Edmonds.

    3. Herring - Rebranded Loakes, I think, but they offer a great price to value ratio, especially when they hit their clearance/end of year sales.

    Any other ideas?

    dope list.

Ended up going with the Chippewa Service Boots.

    Were about $200 on Amazon.

Will save this list for the future though.

  3. Never heard of these guys...

...but I walked into a denim store just to look around, and ended up walking out w/ a pair of jeans.

Whats the deal w/ the Variety Box?   Has anyone on here actually purchased one?

I like the cut of their shirts, should be a good way to test em out.

  4. I appreciate the great reply's!!

I want to stay under $500 not because I cant afford it (I am cheap though), but because I know I wouldnt appreciate a top quality boot.  It would be like throwing a 16yr old in a $100,000 car.

ill look up some of these brands you all are mentioning.

So far I like the  WWII Impressions Boondockers & Iron Rangers.

  5. Is it the general consensus to size up on the new way shorts? I've got larger/more muscular thighs.

Also, this is probably a stupid question but what underwear does everyone wear with their outlier stuff.  I was thinking of getting some icebreaker briefs and trying out the airism briefs as well.

    Check out Adidas Climalite underwear.

Comparable to the Exofficio joints...and half the price

  6. The photos on the Outlier site accurately depict the way that they fit. They're a slim cut, but not overly so, and keep in mind they also have 4-way stretch. Most comfortable pair of pants that I own by far.

The pics are accurate for a very slim person...if your thighs have muscle its a different ball game.

There are fit pics on the first few pages of this thread.

  7. Anyone have fit pics/a review of any Outlier competitor pants?  Curious to hear more about Swrv, Mission Workshop's Division/Signal, Endless Amo (have seen some here!), Proof etc.

I have Swrve, Outlier and Proof pants.

I actually like the fit of the Swrve stuff better than the Outlier stuff.  A fuller fit in the thigh and a tapered leg.

These guys have a good set of pics to show fit.  My pants fit a little more snug though (larger frame, cyclist, and lift weights)...but these pics will give you a good idea on how they fit.

The Proof stuff is going to fit just about the same as Outlier.

  8. anyone here have the mission workshop orion and bosun?

I've been looking for a waterproof jacket with a hood and was thinking of copping the orion + bosun together so if anyone here has reviews either for it or against it, that'd be nice

i also looked into acronym but not sure i want to drop that much at the moment

I have the Orion.   Its slick.

    No complaints for me.

I was  going to get the Bosun, but I dont really see a need for it.  When its cold I just put on a baselayer/sweater and im good.

  9. Isaora items at a decent if not great price? Odd. Haha, either way I'll wait for the inevitable sale and grab a ton of the henleys.

I do appreciate they did a round hem which a lot of folks don't do. I think it looks way better.

When do their sales normally happen?

Im sold on Merino.  Ive worn a Nau merino henley while doing some serious cycling for 3 days and it still smells fresh.

  10. How do Mission Work shop messenger bags hold up when compared to ACRNM 3A?

Never had an ACRNM bag...but ive had 3 MW Vandals.

2 have had zipper failure.  The first time the track ripped, the second time the zipper came off track on one side.

They gave me a new bag the first time, and the second time sent me a bag they had laying around that was repaired for other reasons (looked new).

The zipper thing was really annoying to me, but ive never heard of anyone else having these issues.

and they replaced my bags w/o question.

Still love my bag and probably wouldnt replace it w/ anything else since I actually need all that space and beat it up everyday.

  11.

I'd also like to see a new pant design. The Acronym P13-CH/P13-E (riding pants) have those roomy thighs, with tapered legs, that we desire so much. The bar has been raised.

Those Acronyms are like $600 right?

Does anyone know of any other companies make pants similar to the Keirin cuts (sturdy for cycling), but w/ a fuller thigh?

Ive been working out over the summer, and now these joints are a little snug.

This little kid walked past me and said "those are some gay (he actually used a word I probably cant type of here) pants"

    Gotta love Chicago.

  12. i've never spoken to abe or tyler, but i'd guess they're still slightly surprised they can make a living out of their company.

what you're paying the extra money for is (among other things) the effort they're putting into r&d to continue innovating.  a company like proof doesn't have to do that so much.  i'm guessing it'll be a while before they release a short-sleeve tech poncho unless kanye wears one and it all blows up

the funny thing about tech is that technology is always evolving and it requires research.  hence i will always respect and choose to support a brand that demonstrates that level of commitment, whether it's outlier, acronym or nike

i'm not going to knock proof's hustle but am amazed that their outlier bite extends to their copy and photo campaigns.

anyway, you should probably keep your opinions to yourself until you develop one worth listening to.

come on breh...I have on a pair of keirns right now....so im not anti Outlier.

I personally dont care all about that feel good stuff.  The hell do you need a "tech Poncho" for in the first place?

There is nothing that special about these clothes...they didnt make the fabric...they just cut it a certain way.  There is nothing proprietary about it.

What exactly were they first to do anyway?   Make dress pants with Schoeller?

Thats not a new idea...just an old idea w/ a different fabric.

I think where Proof went wrong is trying to stylize there copy like Outlier...someone like me gives no fucks about pictures in the desert or some long J. Peterman esque story to go along w/ the clothing.  Just give me my shit at a good price.

  13. outlier was one of my first ever tech brand exposures and they did it earnestly, to fulfill a purpose; they knew what it was they wanted to do and where they wanted their product to end up (or so i'd assume).

    their vision's clear

proof ny's just biting outlier; soullessly and with no originality at all.

that's why it got received horribly (and deserves to be)

but that's just what i think.

Like I said, marketing and good copy.

All businesses are in it for profit, thats it.

If you think otherwise thats on you.

and I have some Outlier stuff...but lets keep it real.

They did a good job of selling their product.  Kudos to them, its impressive.

You're paying $100 extra for all that feel good stuff.

Its what some people pay tens of thousands of dollars to learn how to do in business school.

  14. Most people seemingly took offense that they piggy-backed Outlier's mission and essentially ripped off the New OGs, but that's the case with almost any clothing after a while. Look how many brands of jeans there are now -- you don't see people complaining that they are Levi's knockoffs. And as long as Outlier keeps raising their prices, they're going to allow for people to come in and undercut them. It's good for everyone to have competition. It gives consumers a choice and will keep Outlier on their toes.

Plus, I've been waiting what feels like 3 or 4 months at least for Outlier to restock gray New OGs in my size and if I can't get them from Outlier, you better believe I'm gonna jump on Proof's for $100 less.

    Figured as much.

People like that are victims of marketing.

Its never about who does something first, its about who does it the best while giving the consumer the best value.

Do those same people hate their Merino T's because they weren't the first to make merino T's?
