i really dislike that scarf and how he styled it. besides covering up the jacket, it swallows up his neck and shoulders in such a way that makes him too top heavy. when combined with the beanie, the silhouette kinda makes him look like a nutcracker.

you're over thinking it. chunky scarves can only be styled so differently.
