  1. @ Flash - Fit looks outstanding.  I actually didn't notice the repair at first.  It'll become less and less obvious as you get more wear on the jeans.  Great pick up!

  2. Schmallo, my setting is definitely called 'Denim', not 'jeans'. I think I'll give it a go with my Flat Heads this week.

Hmm.  Maybe there are multiple versions.  Anyway, looking forward to your results.

  3. Just bought a new (hideously expensive) Miele washer/dryer which has a dedicated 'Denim' wash setting!

That's awesome.  Just checked it out online.  The setting is just called "jeans."  I wonder how it's different from the other settings?  Not that I'll ever buy the machine but any chance you could let us know how well the 'jeans' setting works?

BTW, for those who use Bronners or something similar, Take5 (in Taipei) recommends hand washing using shampoo.  If it's good enough for your hair, it's good enough for your denim.

  4. another craigslist hooker pic from yours truly.  Please disregard the mess.  My wife wouldnt shut up about a lack of closet space so I gave her an entire room.  This is the result.

Nice.  How did you size on that BR sweat? In most pics of the BR sweat, it looks quite small but on yours it looks like a regular fit.

Cross-post to "WAYWT? Craigslist Hooker Edition?"  :D

  5. ^ those look great.  you'll get plenty of varying opinions on how to wash.  i'm lazy.  i just turn them inside out and throw them in the machine for a cold wash.  they're just jeans!

  6. I'm planning on backing this company's kickstarter but wanted to see if anyone else had opinions: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rpmwest/rpmwest-perfect-jeans-delivered

$95 bucks for 14.5oz pictures look real promising. I know they may not be as great as iron heart, flathead, etc. but they look pretty nice at an entry level. Just curious if anyone else backed them?

Nice concept but like everyone above, it's hard to differentiate it from the 10 other Kickstarter denim projects.  And RPMWEST sounds like they're trying to knock off 45rpm with that name.

  7. Welp, about a month later and I finally get an invoice from Klax-On to use paypal.  Ordered it but I would say avoid Klax-on if you can get the same thing from another shop...

Sorry to hear it man.  I've ordered from at least a dozen different Rakuten stores including Klax-On.  I had absolutely no problem with them.  They were very prompt.  Most places ship either the same day I order or within 24 hours.

I can only think of 1 time when a Rakuten store was slow and that was Bears.  They took about 10 days to notify me that my order had shipped.

I would just chalk up your experience with Klax-On as a one-off problem.

My biggest gripe about Rakuten is that some stores charge you Japanese sales tax (5%) which they technically shouldn't charge for international orders.  I called out one store about it (OT&Emotional) and they said they considered it a "handling fee" and could cancel my order if I preferred.  My recommendation is to seek out stores that break out the "with" and "without" tax prices.  Those tend not to charge the Japanese sales tax on international orders.

Hope you have a better experience next time

  8. thanks schmallo. I have to try that method but would it really make a difference of about 3 cm?

i had the same doubts and just tried it on 2 pairs of jeans, Oni Red and Sam S5000VX.  Both times, Outseam - Inseam was exactly 3cm shorter than measuring front rise using the BIG method.

  9. ^^ BF, from what Lee says below, it looks like they just subtract the inseam from the outseam.

Our measurement is different from other denim’s brand.

Below is the page of our measurement guide.
    http://www.japaneseselvagejeans.com/rainbowcounty/size/size-en.html

We measure the length and the inseam and the rise is equal to

    Length- Inseam= Rise

So, If we lay the jeans out flat and measure from crotch seam to top of jeans with top button fastened,
the front rise should be +around 3cm.

Anyway, UES has really grown on me since the Yen devaluation and Aho pointing out that they ship for free on orders over 20,000 Yen.

I've got a couple shirts on order from them and will try to post pics when they arrive.

Meanwhile, I'm really eyeing those 400R as well but have absolutely zero need for new denim.
