  1. Ever since Urban Outfitters picked up Cheap Mondays I have been trying to find a substitute for nice fashionable skinny denim on the cheap. Are there any companies out there that fit the bill? I would prefer an American company as well, but I know that is asking a lot.

  2. First of all Native American is not the preferred term for Indians. Most Indians prefer to be called by their tribe ie:Navajo or they would rather be called an Indian, because the white man coined the phrase Native American. I ran this design by a bunch of Indians because my aim was to inform, not to offend or shock in order to make a quick buck. But we all come to view things with our own influences so I know some people will be offended, but a wise friend told me the only thing about this shirt that is offensive is the fact that it is true.

  3. No worries man, I like the honest feedback. The shirt is already made, and I trust what the SF people say, but at the same time they have been wrong before. I guess I was a little worried about what the people thought of the message less than the design. I ran it past a couple of Indian friends of mine and they were all down.

  4. thanks for the suggestions...so now that I am here, I am wondering where the real shit is going down. the underground, the punks, all that mess. everything I see is squeaky clean. that's not a bad thing per se, but I thought it was gonna be a little more punk. i'm sure it is because I have been visiting tourist traps and ritzy shit, so lead me the right direction. i have one day left and I miss the smell of stale urine and beer.

  5. What up? I'm thinking about going to London soon and would like to drop in on some like minded shops while I am there. I am looking for some streetwear or skate shops, also some vintage shops or whatever you think is the ill shit in London right now. I am also very in to graffiti so if you could give me some spots that have to do with that, that would be dope too. Isn't it true Banksy has a gallery there or does he just do shows?

    thanks

  6. shit, y'all have been busy on here. The distro would be in Austrailia and New Zealand. I hit him back with an email today that said the following.

"I am in line to talk to my lawyer right now which is why this is taking a while. If I was just shipping you product I wouldn't really worry about the details too much, but now that we are talking about licensing and all that, that is a bit different story. I think I would feel better just shipping large quantities at the beginning. Maybe I send you some samples of the heavier sellers and your picks at first, you shop them around and give everyone a final order date. Then I can have my people printing and ship it all in one container. Because as of now we do everything on American Apparel, but I have some cut and sew stuff in the works as well as some embroidery. I really feel better knowing all the colors are perfect and the placement etc. and being a micromanager I want to personally check the quality on everything. The other bit is I am single handedly trying to bring manufacturing back to the US. A big job I know, but my local printers really count on my consistent jobs. Tell me your thoughts. Also, what other labels are you planning or currently distributing? Are you up and running or am I the first on board? I am still excited about this opportunity, but I want to make sure it works out for both of us."

This of course was written before I consulted my board of directors on superfuture, but it looks like most of us were on the same page.

As for the YSL shirt I only made that on pink, but maybe it is due for a reprint. As for domestic sales, I am very happy. This hasn't ever been a hobby for me, it is my life 24-7. I also can't afford to make a non selling shirt because this is my only gig, well, this and the shop, so I had to be profitable in the first month. I think I sold about 2,000 of my own tees last year out of my store alone. That doesn't include web or the other stores who carry it. This past Christmas I was selling 30-40 a day, again out of my own shop. My main problem is manpower. I still operate the shop 5 days a week as well as design everything, as well as being the accountant, errand boy, etc. I have no complaints, but it will be hard to grow without passing the duties on to someone I trust. Right now I am sort of a headless chicken high on caffiene and I think if I was in a less cutthroat high priced market it would be a little more chill, but then I wouldn't be where I am today, so I will make due for now. It's funny because I didn't really have a vision of what I wanted to do with this thing, I just started out trying to make some creative shit and now I am like holy shit, I have a business. :)

  7. i know what y'all are saying and it does make sense. however, what is keeping this guy from just biting or ripping off the designs right now? I can take most jpg's of tees off the net and recreate the image with no problem. he could do the same and unload a couple hundred or more without anyone knowing. I like the point you brought up about what to do when the relationship ended. Anyone here know if Bobby Hundreds still reads this thing? that dude has to have experience with this plus if I heard right he is a lawyer.

  8. Hello all. Big things have been happening for me since I first started posting on this forum a few years ago. You have all helped me in the past figure out things like which tradeshows to hit up as well as being very honest with my line, which is appreciated, since a lot of my friends only want to tell me what I want to hear. Anyways, my current opportunity is this. A man rolled through my shop a year ago and told me he was gonna set up a distribution company for streetwear in his country. Well, he just emailed me, a year later and said his biz is rolling and he still wants to distro us throughout his country and others nearby. He said it would be easier and cheaper for me to send the designs and he could have them screened in his place and then he would pay me royalties or a per item price. That makes sense to me but I don't know how I can keep track of how many he is truly selling. I know a certain amount of trust is needed but how will I know if I am getting paid for 500 shirts or 600 shirts? Any of you had any experience with this at all?

    Thanks

  9. look, as someone who just did his first tradeshow, if you are going to go to one in Vegas during that week, I would hit Magic. Because that is where 99% of the people visiting to buy are going to go first or only. If you are going to be in POOL sign up today because they are already mapping it out. But to be honest I wouldn't ever do POOL again. It was too west coast, and my stuff isn't west coast. Plus, you are getting the dregs from Magic so they have already spent the majority of their dough or they don't start buying until way late in the game. i would be very weary of trying out a brand new show unless it was like $1.

  10. about 3 years ago I was in Paris and they were all the rage. every department store had a whole section of them. that's when I thought, maybe we SHOULD go to war with France afterall.

  11. In case y'all are wondering, Superfuture has some power. Yesterday, I got a call from the guy from Akomplice, the maker of the other Liberty shirt. He told me that the dude that makes the freegoldwatch.com hoody called him and said some shit had been stirred up online and someone should take care of it. Now how the hell could these two dudes know of me, when they live in to different states, and still claim they didn't steal my designs?

  12. Ok, sorry I haven't been on SF in a while because I have actually had work to do :) So let me get to a response of some sort. Right now I am designing shit for hipsters. Not the kind you want to stab when you see out on any given night, but the ones who are actually cool, have their own opinion on things and can read between the lines. To be flat out most of these kids are older, in college, and if you mentioned BAPE, Hundreds, aNYthing, ALIFE, or Supreme, most of them would have no idea what you were talking about. So, when I place a design on a shirt that is bigger than 8x12, they start sweating a little bit. I have no doubt in my mind that in the next 5 years "streetwear" ie: Huge prints/all over prints/bold colors/ all that shit that makes it pop will be what fake vintage tees are today. So, when I went out to make the Statue of Liberty shirt I made it marketable. I can't tell you how many people wouldn't/won't buy it just because they want the logo dead center of the chest. When I originally thought up the shirt, Lady Liberty was supposed to start in her same place but pretty much stretch across the whole tee...but after talking to many of my customers she was shrunken down. So, to recap, I know my audience, I have a huge rent, and I need to pay it with things that sell.

Now, to address the Liberty bite, I like the sizing, there is something wrong going on in the hand/gun department, and the writing on the back is fucking retarded. "AMERICA IS FILLED WITH GANGSTAS FROM YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD DRUG DEALER TO OUR GOVERNMENT. IT'S TIME TO REALIZE AND RECOGNIZE. HERE LIBERTY COMES BY THE GUN. FROM SUN UP TO SUN DOWN. ONE.

I don't know how anyone could think a shirt with this written on the back could be dope. My dad has more hop in his hip than this lyricist. So, the ones of you who want this shirt, please by it and not mine and to the many of SF people who have supported my shit, thanks a ton, I've got some greatness on the horizon.

Now the sucky shit is this. I have about 8 new designs that are fire and I can't release them until after I go to POOL because of what I have to believe was taken from Superfuture. Also, for all you late adopters I carried IRAK in my shop in 2003. That's when the shirt labels were ironed in by hand, maybe some of you remember the sugar skulls and the Irak Attack tees. But since my shop was in a basement and didn't have marble floors, flat screens, celebs, whatever, the shit didn't move. Now I don't care that I didn't make money on the tees, but these shirts were hot and it just proves that streetwear will always be more about having money than making money. Anyways, I'm not out here to be the next BAPE, I'm just trying to open some eyes and make a living doing so. So, even with the biters out there, they will always be looking in my direction before they drop their new shit, and I know a lot more people who would rather have the original than the copy. Because I would rather see Michael dance than Usher and I wouldn't ever want someone to say, oh, cool shirt, looks like one I bought a year ago.

  13. Yes, I put this out a while ago, and I still sell them, and I definitely have new shit. But I am not Supreme or Alife. Most people have no idea what the fuck Proletariat is, so when other people make money off of my exact idea it sucks. Now I am not pissed about shit like Brooklyn Industries or OK47 because the execution is different enough. But this new one is verbatim. That's all. I think I have a little right to point out when some shitty up and comer, who might be getting his ideas off of this exact site, is rippin off shit. If you were an indie label wouldn't you want to know so you could protect your shit? And for those of you who think it is ridiculous that another company could rip off a smaller label then welcome to the world of business. you've got a lot to learn.

here's your ok 47 which to me aint even close, if anything they cheapened this blazer

you even have to look at the background this kid is using and wonder, would he have had the idea of the clouds without some influence like darkclouds?

  14. i thought the brooklyn industries could be a coincidence, but maybe they are just smart enough to change the design 25%. I have sold a ton of these, had them on myspace, and on many other websites including this one, plus I have been all over the press. Coincidence my ass. I'm sorry, but I just don't think the scene is that big. I do have to agree from an unbiased point of view, their version looks cheez to me.
