  1. Hello everybody. I've recently made some t-shirts for sale online as part of my lighthearted illustration project (Wonderful Drawings). If you'd like to see the whole collection (so far), you can view it here: http://www.redbubble.com/people/wonderful/clothing

All t-shirts are printed on American Apparel.

    Here's a few examples:

And here are some older designs:

So there's a few of them. Please feel free to give me some comments. Although, please keep in mind: I'm not trying to start the next big street-wear brand. I'm really just doing this to amuse myself, so if you like my work that's great, if you don't, that's fine too.

This site I am using is called Red Bubble. It seems like a really great way to get your work out there with low set-up costs. Anyone out there who has always wanted to make t-shirts but has been held back by the time & cost involved, check out this site!

Ok, thanks for your time everybody.

  2. Just got a pair of Sling & Stones for my girlfriend. The guys at Self Edge have been really helpful! Anyone thinking of ordering from SE, I highly recommend it! The service is just outstanding!!!!

And anyone thinking about some Sling & Stones: the denim and construction is really incredible. The natural indigo has a great grey/blue colour with lots of variations. I'm really looking forward to seeing how they fade!

  3. Largo, the problems weren't huge, but I'd say that's mostly because I pretty much stopped wearing them completely because I didn't want the damage to get worse. I've already repaired the holes and stuff, but it still feels like the jeans will fall apart. Will post pics if I get a chance.

  4. Did we ever actually get a consensus on this? I thought people with the 6x6 ones hadn't reported any of the epic thread destruction we've been seeing. It seemed like all of the freak Skull disasters had mostly been the 'US Edition' 5010 regulars, right? I haven't worn my Skulls much (maybe 1.5 months?), but they're the 6x6 and haven't had any problems.

Untrue. I have the 6x6 and I have had stitching problems.

  5. DUM, yeah I agree; holes are very common in back pockets and from cuffing. However, the holes appeared much faster and were bigger than on any of my other (cheaper) jeans.

(I can't remember the brand of my wallet, some local Melbourne brand. Physically, it's not too big or anything... pretty standard sort of wallet...)

  6. I hate to fuel the fire (again), but now I'm feeling a little suspect about the denim as well as the threads.

My 5010xx has got holes in the back pocket, where I cuffed, and now (as of a few days ago) in the crotch.

I didn't even get a crotch blow out in my Nudies (and while they weren't as tight, I wore them a lot harder). To really make the point, I do practically NO physical activity in these jeans. I walk in them, I sit in them, and occasionally I might bend or kneel down. That's pretty much it!

This is tough, but I don't think I could recommend skulls to anyone anymore. They are still my favourite jean, and the one that fits me best (plus the customer service is amazing!). But this quality or durability or whatever you want to call it is just not good enough.

I'm just sick of feeling like I can't wear my skulls because I haven't had time to stitch them up and I'm afraid the holes are going to get bigger or whatever.

The fading on my skulls is looking great, and still has a lot of depth yet to develop. But now I'm thinking they'll be unwearable before the denim has reached its full fading potential.

  7. FWIW, I think AA are better quality then Hanes, Line, and Marcs, and good value at $22 from FS or $15 USD from AA.

I also prefer AAs seemless cut.

You really think the AA quality is better than Marcs? The AA tee I've got shrank in a cold wash and feels really flimsy, while my Marcs ones have been washed tons and just keep feeling great.

The AA tee I have was out of the fluro line so maybe it's different cotton to the regular ones??

But I've got to say, AA do have a heap of great colours though!

  8. Just picked up some AA tees yesterday for screenprinting.

This place American Vintage (on Brunswick st in Melb) has 1 for $25, 2 for $45, and 3 for $60.

Better value than buying them from Myer or Nudie or wherever without the hassle of online ordering.

  9. I haven't tried hem & haw tees, but I have been turned off the brand a bit because of the low quality of the jeans. Also not convinced by AA as they don't seem to last super well through washes from my experience so far.

The best brand I've found for plain ts is Marcs. They're a bit pricy for a plane t @ around $40 (or $30ish if you can get them on sale). I've got four of them. The fabric is great, really durable and comfortable.

The fit is pretty good too. Probably not perfect for me, but definately the best overall plain t I've found so far.

My girlfriend also bought a bunch of Carhartt ts on sale after christmas. She got a great deal and got them for only like $15-20 each. They work really well on her. I got a plain white one for myself, but I'm not really loving it... it's really thin, feels a little flimsy, and is a little transparent. Quality seems pretty good though... maybe just better to get a colour that isn't white. If you can get some of those on sale they'd be a good buy. I won't pay retail though, which is something like $60-70, what a joke!

  10. they stretch a shit load more, in wierd places too. like the crotch drops 3 inches and the ass gets hella saggier, maybe this is because they are made of 14.5 ounce, not apc's 11 ounce, selvedge jap denim!!

DUDE USE YOUR FUCKING BRAIN!! WHY WOULD THEY STRTCH LIKE APC'S!!!!

Just to clarify... do they really stretch that much, or are you just making fun of this dude?

I'm not trying to start an argument, I actually want to know how much they stretch :)

  11. X-posted from the other womens thread

Hey everybody, just a sizing/fit question about the Linda's.

My girlfriend has a pair of the Denimbirds bootcut (which I think isn't around anymore) in 27", and she can just fit into a 27" Nudie Super Slim Kim.

I was wondering if anyone with Lindas has any experience with the Slim Kims, and can compare sizing and the shape.

    Thanks in advance!!

  13. That's actually a pretty cool reason I hadn't thought of. If only they could produce strong, polycotton (or equivalent) thread that faded like cotton.

It doesn't really bother me too much whether or not the stitching fades as much as the denim, but it's a reason I can understand.

I guess the other option is using no contrast stitching (still probably some prolems with the denim fading to a lighter colour). I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to that, but it's a pretty different aesthetic to the vintage look.

  14. ^^^^

Frankly I don't give a shit about authenticity. I want a pair of jeans that fits well, has great denim, and is of an overall good quality (i.e. is worth the money).

If I really wanted an authentic repro type jean, wouldn't I be getting some LVCs or sugarcanes? What sort of old jean had a fit like the 5010XX??? If there is one I doubt it would have been very common.

If Skull are down with modern fits, I don't see why they wouldn't be into more modern inovations like better quality thread. The argument that they're traditionalists becomes paradoxical.

Besides, isn't part of the appeal of Japaense repros the attention to detail and overall quality, not just details like thread type? Of course, some people really appreciate those authentic details, particularly stuff like hidden rivets, etc, but I'd say a lot of people around here are into Japanese denim because they think/hope it will be of a superior quality to other stuff. Hence the widespread misconception that selvedge = better quality.

I'm sure a denim company can find a balance between modern cuts, great quality in construction, and an aesthetic grounded in traditional denim (such as dying technique, excellent fading potential, details like hidden rivets etc).

If you don't believe that is possible, then look at a company like Imperial. Their jeans might not be perfect, but I think they're doing pretty well at achieving that balance.

And Imperial jeans are pretty far from Rustlers. Honestly, how are Skulls and Rustlers even comparable?

If it makes me "a little fucker" just because I want something that looks good and is of a decent quality then so be it.

  15. Go back to APCs.

lol, I'm not sure if this is a joke?

I never actually liked my APCs much at all... maybe just not the fit I'm after, and fading I got wasn't exactly spectacular (but in terms of construction, quality, etc they are great value for money).

I'm still very much a fan of the skulls, don't worry about that. I guess it will be interesting to see how long they hold up.
