  1. Hey guys, checked out the brand "Note To Self" a few days ago and thought some of you might be interested. Some of you Melbourne people will probably have heard of this brand, but anyways here it is.

I tried on a pair of the selvedge straight in a 30". The cut seemed roughly similar to my KMW Rockers in 29", perhaps a little looser in the leg and a bit more fitted in the seat. Denim is 12.5oz Japanese selvedge but nothing out of this world, didn't feel as thick or nice as Imperial denim. Button fly. Price was $290 AU.

I thought the details were a little over the top. There were two selvedge coin pockets (one on each side), & waist band was also lined with selvedge. No pocket stitching, but there is what looks like a button (made in some sort of vinyl-like fabric) sewn onto the corner of one of the back pockets. No rivets used. Outseam is only half-selvedge, which I found kinda interesting.

Here's some pics of these from the dude's website:

The store also had a slightly slimmer cut, which used stretch non-selvedge Japanese denim. Zip fly (I think). None of the crazy details on these ones. Overall I think I liked the simpler aesthetic of these better, but the denim wasn't as nice. Those were $250. Didn't try these ones on.

Another interesting thing is this guy also does custom jeans, you can find out about it at his website: http://www.notetoself.com.au/

So, while these jeans didn't blow me away, it was really nice to see some local product coming out at a pretty good quality. Without the crazy details and maybe for a slightly lower price I probably would have picked up those selvedge ones.

Anyways, just thought a few of you might find this interesting. If you're in Melbourne you can check them out at Order and Progress (in Curtin House).

  2. yeah but skulls, flat heads, etc. will last longer, hence the more bang for your buck

I used to think that too, but after trying Skulls & Kicking Mule Workshop I'm not sure anymore... the durability doesn't seem that different from my old Nudies even though the denim is a lot nicer :(

  3. Thank you very much to choice_jeans, jmayhew, 40ozprophet, noogsahoy for their comments. And especially thanks to choice_jeans for his support. If you don't like my shirts, please don't take it out on him, he didn't make them.

jmayhew, if you would really like the shirt with "interest rates" I would be happy to make it for you. I will send you a PM.

noogsahoy, I understand your concerns about pricing. I have just started selling these, so I am just getting the hang of things re: pricing. What do you think would be a fair price? As I am not producing these myself in bulk, the base price is reasonably high so I have to take that into consideration. Also, a lot of the tees my friends (and I) have bought range from $50-80 AU, so I thought around $40 would be reasonable for an independent designer. Please feel free to send me your ideas on pricing and I will definitely consider your thoughts! Thanks again for your comment.

malaesthetique & Just Another XY, I'm sorry you don't like my designs. But I am just making what I like for fun, I am not trying to stay ahead of the fashion zeitgeist. Also, malaesthetique, when you say my work is like "first-grader garbage", that is kind of the point. It's just something I do for fun, in my day job I worry about making things look professional etc. Thanks for your comments.

jmatsu, I think we get the point that you don't like my designs. Thank you for your comments. Please don't post any more in my thread. If you would like to criticise my designs some more, feel free to PM me with your insults.
