  1. Going to hit up Take 5 in a few weeks when I go to HK. Most likely getting 2 pairs, but I'm torn for what to get for my straight/relaxed fit.

Now I currently have a pair of Skulls 5010xx and they're too slim for my taste. From what I can gather, Sammies aren't that slim in all their cuts. So when comparing to Skulls, the 710's should be more roomier right?

For straight cut, I'm torn between S5000 and S0510's. I don't have the biggest thighs, so I'm worried about the fit on the straight leg. Any input?

    Thanks

I liked the S5000VX over the 0510's. If you're looking for a true straight fit, non slim model then I suggest the S510xx. I grabbed the S510's over the S5000 because they had a bit more room. If you want a non-sufu straight cut go with the S510's. If you want a slightly slim straight cut go with the S5000VX. It also depends on how you size up/down on the models.

  2. It's something about how your GPA shows how much of a hard worker you are, and tests show your intelligence. They don't want a lazy ass bum at their school I guess.

some colleges are willing to take really motivated dumbasses or smart bums.

Not sayin' i'm smart; I ate, slept and shit prep books the week leading up to the test. Point is, just make sure one part of your app stands out.

  3. Don't let GPA or a low test score discourage you from applying to schools. As long as one part of your app stands out then you'll have a shot. I had a 3.0 cumulative but got into a top 25 because of my test scores. I remember stressing HARD about this (if I didn't get in it would've probably been CC for me) senior year but just study your ass off for the SAT's if you're gpa sucks.

  6. Thanks for the advice.

    I'm looking into consulting.

I interned at one of the 4 major korean companies and even though I spoke perfect korean (i'm korean) all the projects/presentations they stuck me with were done in english (ie: for an english audience). They were fiending for fluent english speakers with a US background to handle all their foreign related deals/projects. I was thinking maybe there was a similiar demand in japan. But as rajio said, it only makes sense that they would be inclined to hire strictly japanese given the nature of the industry anyway.

Any particular firms that are known to be foreigner friendly? Will probably apply to NYC/Midwest for most companies but I want to try to spread a wide net given the shitty economy....

  7. quick career bullshit.

    1. How competitive are positions at top firms in japan for non-japanese graduates? I was looking through the profiles for Bain (one of my boys used to work there) and most of them graduated from Todai but with some bullshit degree like education or latin american studies. I know Tokyo U is mad competitive in the first place but I was wonderin what the competitition is like for non-japanese university graduates at firms.

    2. how prestigous is Daiwa SMBC in japan

    3. how fluent do you have to be to work for non-japanese firms in japan? I'll have about five years of japanese study in before I graduate and will hopefully pass the JLPT lvl 1 within a year or two. Trying to take a summer to take classes abroad but having trouble finding time.

  9. wow this thread moved fast today. but it was fun watching Montreal insist that everyone else knows nothing about watches, digging himself deeper and deeper while all he had to do was a quick google search on seiko. dude actually thought seikos were all quartz? maybe he was confusing casio (which i'm guessing even also has a couple autos)?

but i do agree with him over tmccarthy41 that the navitermer isn't tacking and most of the bentlys are.

tmccarthy - your collection is expensive, and that's about the only complement i can give it. i'm definitely jealous of it, but with the exception of the AP (which design's i happen to find ugly), it's like you read a watch article in GQ, realized you were loaded, and bought every watch they told you was nice. and now you have what every i-banking douche in new york has. and i'm not saying i wouldn't buy any one or two of the pieces that you have. i'd get a daytona or a uboat. and i understand brand loyalty. and to each his own, etc... but the mere fact that you have all those watches without branching out into some more interesting brands is kind of frustrating. why not get a VC, a port, a Uyssle, a Lange, etc etc.? i get the feeling (without knowing you at all, which i admit is unfair), that you won't because the average person won't know how much they're worth. getting noticed by the 1 out of 100 in a bar that recognizes a blancpain is a lot cooler to me than getting noticed by the other 99 that recognize a PAM because p. diddy has one.

    but honestly, i'm just jealous.

I would trade all those watches for one lange in a heartbeat. The thing about high end watches though is that the people that buy them are usually people that are genuinely interested in horology and the history behind the timepieces. Rich people who don't know/aren't interested just go out and buy rolexs and cartiers.

Check "the purist" forums. I've been lurking there for years and the guys over there are on par with the denimheads on sufu when it comes to zeal.

  10. Kamel Reds are good. Marlboro Reds are decent...I'll buy a pack of smooths between cartons of regular cigs.

Best smokes for me are korean Mild 7's and Seven Stars (jp). The mild 7's in japan had a nasty metallic aftertaste for some reason.

  11. I was going to sell these for more reasonable prices but a situation arose and I need cash badly. Paypal only, prices include shipping within US. My memory card reader broke but if you really want pics I can take them with my mac's photobooth. All 100% legit, blah blah blah. PM me for pics only if you are serious about buying.
