  1. [how the hell can you complain about APC's quality when there's stuff like prps, pdc, chip & pepper and earnest sewn and so on?]

Horriblyjollyjinx, you're the first person I've heard who doesn't rate Prps .... I'm interested why you think they're sub- standard.

  2. Cheers Ringring.

I've heard you say that before, but I dry clean all my denim a bunch of times before their first wash, and I've never had any damage to any of the leather patches yet. Have I been lucky, does it depend on the type of leather or the way it's been treated, or does my dry cleaner just know his stuff?

  3. I got stoned, went shopping on a grant cheque, and came back with a leather and sheepskin Gaultier hat when I was at college. Still got it packed away somewhere, and believe It's a MAD thing, with huge flaps that hang down the side of your face and tie up over your head.

    ... Never worn it once ... icon_smile_big.gif

  4. APRIL????

    Jeeeeeez!

When I went off at the customs guy about never having been charged duty before, he said he wouldn't get back to me about the past deliveries I'd received. I thought he was being smug or joking, but then again living in the UK I guess I should have known better.

  5. Thanks guys. Yeah ... Belive I got onto HM customs STRAIGHT away and got *politely* very aggravated with them. They explained that anything - new OR used - coming into the UK from outside the EU over the value of £18 ($32) was liable for 17.5%, and that clothing was up for 12.5% more on top of that. PLUS even if it's marked up as a gift, it still becomes taxable at £36 ($64).

Anyhow. That's all by and by. Just that it kinda took the joy out of actually receiving the jeans.

  6. So I couldn't resist, and after drooling for a while, bought a pair of Prps one rinse online from the US rather than here in the UK, cos of the huge difference in price and the favourable exchange rate. But then when they got delivered, I got smacked up for another $100 in customs charges on top, payable COD. It's never happened to me before on the numerous times when I've ordered stuff from abroad, and it's a proper drag. Figure I might have just been unlucky, but if not and it IS a normal practice, I'm going to have to rethink the amount of stuff I buy and get shipped in. Anyone else had similar trouble?

  7. Bobbyhundreds: Nice one. But you're asking How do you make a corporate-fashion-line based around an anti-corporate ideology?

I reckon Vexed Generation do it pretty well IMHO. I've lurked here for time and a half and I'm surprised they don't get more of a big up on supertalk.

The site's not even close to a decent representation of their work, and they remain pretty inaccessible I guess, but I know these guys well and BELIVE they are on it, and have been for years.

  8. Further to that, I was talking with the guy at Cinch in Newburgh St today and he was on about one of his contacts setting up a full-on denim repair clinic. They don't offer repairs or alterations right now, but I think it's an exciting prospect to watch as a point of reference for the future when you consider some - but definetly not all - of the Levi's Vintage finishes of the past few collections.

  9. The jeans look all present and correct to me, and the bag is -or at least , was - a standard Japanese Evisya Tailor store take out. I have two pairs of Evisu that I bought at the Daikanyama store Tokyo as an induction to premium denim when I lived there, Six years ago. The first - a non selvedge zip fly limited edition with a crazy butt patch, blue hand painted arcuates and a red Evis tab - came in the exact same packaging. I still have it in mint condition and dug it out the bottom of my wardrobe to check.

  10. I've had my eye and mind on both pairs for a couple weeks, as projects for the next couple of years ... Got a hook up in place and a mule to carry them back over too, so I'm laughing.

The first pair have been covered here already a bunch of times (I'd provide a thread but I'm a technocripple newbie and haven't sussed how to yet. just check the other threads) It'd be good to know a bit more about the second, though ... No one has mentioned them, and I think they look proper interesting ...

  11. Philip Start's boutique at 59 Rivington street in Shoreditch EC2 apparently have a serious tailoring sevice going, although I can't vouch for it. I just know I was after having a couple pairs of dry LVC's that I've stretched out taken in rather than prematurely wash them, and before I changed my mind I enquired in passing if they could do it properly. I was surprised, cos they said it was easy and would only cost me £10. They've got a fair stock of high end denim there as well, if that's anything to go by. Even if they do seem to charge more for it than anywhere else in London ...
