  1. I'm in need of help.

I need to find a history of denim timeline other than the Levi's one.

I want as much all inclusive information as possible.

Has anyone seen one? Have any great solid fact based papers, sites, or books that a time line can be created from? I know a lot from memory but it needs to be as fact and date accurate as possible.

From Serge de Nimes to today.

    Please help.

    xoxo

  2. In case anyone checks this thread out, a few weeks ago I asked an acquaintance what looms Kurabo use for their selvage. They are mostly Toyoda.

Evis's first selvage fabric came from Kurabo. That fabric was almost certainly made on toyoda looms. The story about Cone selling their looms to Evis is, as far as all the available evidence shows, complete bollox.

I think Urban Sprawl recently confirmed this bollox during his trip to Japan. And no one at Cone ever confirmed that the looms in question were sold. Alas I believe the rumor is dead. Evis never had the looms. Japan doesn't seem to have them either.

    But who does?

    Maybe no one?

Maybe, like so many other treasures, they were deemed useless and disposed of.

    Will we ever know?

  3. If you want to play with creases and startch- which will not hurt your denim- you can create the crease, wrinkle, fold, or whatever you want to create on the denim, hold it in place with a clothes pin(s), and spray the startch on. Let dry completely- usually over night- and you've got yourself a wrinkle, crease, fold, whatever you wanted.

To avoid sticky residue, don't over do it. You know you've overdone it when you have sprayed the area until the startch-foam turns the area white for a a second. And hold the spray can like 6 inches away so you don't isolate one area too much.

I suggest a test on another item first to see what I mean. If you spray one area long enough it get's all foamy. But you REALLY gotta be spraying it for that to happen. For WAY longer then most people would feel comfortable. OR you could hold the can too close to the fabric and the area you end up spraying becomes small and quickly saturated.

And use heavy startch. The other intesities of startch won't cut it.

It's alot easier then I made it sound. Writing things always sounds more complicated then the action the words describe.

    good luck!

  4. I was just at the Denim Bar in VA and I will let ya'll know that it's a great store. The selection is on point, the owner is enthusiastic and so helpful. Really nice vibe to the whole thing. And there is nothing like it in the area. He has everything all ya'll would want. As well as stuff for the masses. He get's both points of view and is so chill about the whole thing.

Serisouly, if you want something, call the store and just get it there. If he does orders that way it would be a great way to support his business.

And he knows exactly who I am as he is reading this and he for sure not going to say anything RIGHT?

  6. 68 Green Street Between Spring and Broom.

Denim Gallery carries denim not usually found in other Diesel stores. Of course they have all the Deisel well known best sellers in the back for those people who ask.

Gallery receives a shipment of exclusives every 3 months. There are usually only 30O made per style for the planet. The styles recieved are sometimes amazing raw / selvage pieces. Sometimes they are crazy Euro embroidered things that are more works of art then anything else.

It's a reallynice store and it's worth it to go and check it out.

  8. Urban Sprawl! I mean REALLY!!

I've said it over and over Selvage, raw, and female do not always go together.

But like this other guy said, if she was wearing seven she is into FIT and not so much the denim. She likes them tight, boot cut, flattering in the seat right?

Selvage and raw denim are tricky in the fit for females. Usually ladies don't like it.

APC Dry is the best bet. But it is a slim fit all the way down. Not a boot cut. But she should try.

The Iron Hearts are amazing BUT she is used to wearing a 10oz. 21 oz I am bettiing will make her uncomfortable. Besides, it's HOT out!

You could also look for hours and days and months and years for a vintage pair in a small size. But since her jeans fell apart I am sure you are looking for something more immediate.

But if she likes them baggy, it opens up a whole new world. She can then get any men's style 2 sizes larger then her norm, get a great belt to lessen the distance from the waist band to the end of the fly which will look very long to her, and she's got herself any selvage / raw denim available to men. She should at least try. it's really cute and very cozy.

other nice brands for her to check out:

    Nudie

    Rag and Bone

    5EP

    45 RPM

    Rogan

If you want more info send me a personal message

Um right. Denim Jeans sounds kind of like you are an old man.

" What are those ya got on? Denim jeans?"

Denim, when the word stands alone and is being used outside on the street, implies jeans right? Or not so right?

  10. Let's hope so. That was one of my favorite stores in NY. Do you know what their distribution will be like? Will they open another store? Will they sell out of RL on B way? Will it be a wholesale business to be found in the demon of all stores Macy's?

Where is your info coming from?

I don't want to get my hopes up...

  11. No offense Wild Whiskey as you are usually so very right on most things. But this time not so much. Tracking can absolutley be left without the denim being selvage. An open seam, stitched at both ends will yield exactly the same result as long as the seam has laid flat during most of the wear. It is a reult of the slightly raised edge at the end of the fabric on the seam. Both selvage and open seams produce exactly the same result. Sorry babe! XOXO

  12. Only enough to approcah the person and ask. In other words, you will see the dark blankness of the denim. Provided it is untreated.

This certain type of darkness will either mean raw (completly untreated) or selvage. Or it could mean both. But not all dark jeans are raw. Not all dark jeans are selvage.

You can also kind of tell by the outside if you are about an inch away from it and I doubt you want to get that close to a stranger. But the outside will only yield enough evidence of selvage to make you want to look at that inside seam to find out.

Also, you can have an idea by how stiff the jeans are. That's IF and ONLY IF they are newer. And the most that will get you is the probibility of raw. Case in point. Diesel makes a raw denim that is not a selvage denim. Tricky. Very tricky.

To be safe I think the only way you can tell on someone walking down the street is if you know the brand and style the person has on.

If someone has them cuffed you'll be able to tell by the seam.

So no, I guess you can't honestly and definitley tell by the outside of the pant on someone you don't know walking down the street. All you can have is an idea.

Do the unwashed APC jeans shrink at all in the waist if you wash them regularly?

--- Original message by kdh on May 29, 2005 08:42 PM

Not that much shrink in the waist in my experience. I only washed them once though with the express purpose of trying to shrink them. And I will never wash them again. I had them tailored to be smaller this last week. It worked out okay. The denim wasn't effeected. They are still not as small as I would like them. But such is the problem when they don't make them in a sz 24.
