  1. Funny thing about LV fakes now, is that the bootleggers are great really sophisticated. I remember reading an article in The Economist of how fakes would be brought in to official LV stores and the authenticators couldn't tell the difference between the fake and the real thing. With the technology gap narrowing, its becoming increasingly harder for luxury brands to justify their high prices if fakers can maintain the same level of quality and undercut them in price.

  2. Benny rags is right. I had friends in HS whose parent's used to do manufacturing for Nautica, etc...All the companies use the same manufacturing processes and machines, so after the quotas were filled, they'd use the machines in the black market. I remember one time we went and the guy asked us how big we wanted the Nautica logo on a sweatshirt and in what color and in a few minutes it was done. Same process and machine just difference in design standards, time, and materials. When you buy authentic, it might invariably come from fake producers as well: Biggest trick American retail ever pulled....

  3. What's hip? Not caring about the labels or "trends" but cultivating your own style. Realizing that at the end of the day, a t-shirt with a silk-screened logo isn't worth $60-$100 no matter how "hype" the camo-primate design is. Realizing that true style isn't about "what you wear, "but "how you wear it." That's hip...

  4. I have a pair of Kratts that I just love and still wear. I dunno why Diesel doesn't make jeans like this style anymore? Kratts really have the nice full-straight leg cut that I just can't seem to find anymore. Seems like a lot of jean makers are riding the whole boot-cut/flared jean trend....

  5. Personally I don't think Ueno is the "best place" to go for limited edition shoes. My personal favorite places are Harajuku and Daikanyama (In between Shibuya and Meguro). While the tokyo maps on superfuture is good, its not the best cuz some of the places are dated. Try the Men's Non-no map service, http://mensnonno.shueisha.co.jp/map/ which is dynamic flash and updates pretty often. In Harajuku try Chapter World and if I remember correctly Diakanyama has a grip of small kick stores. Prolly the only shoe I remember famous in Ueno was the Sakura-Ueno shoe Nike did a couple months back. Haven't been to Ueno in a while so could be wrong though....

  7. Mesh caps are still cool in my opinion. I like the kinds that aren't as ostentatious but more intricately and subtlety designed.

I like this corduroy mesh hat by victim…

  8. What was I sayin....I swear all these dunk/Nike quickstrike-fucks need to get a grip and understand that their 600 dollar pigeons are little more than patent leather and fancy marketing. In ten years whose gonna give a fuck. I'm feelin' those Dior's.

  9. DKNY fell off a long time ago. Besides Donna Karen never designed anything for the label in the first place. Basically shitte generic "label" branded goods from China made by the same outsourcing companies that do the other struggling US designers, i.e. Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, etc. Is it just me or have the old stalwart US designers just been making crap for the last couple years?

  10. I depends. If you're at a foriegn friendly place like Roppongi or a major tourist area, chances are they take credit cards. But if you're at a hole-in-the-wall place or out around the outskirts of Tokyo, prolly not likely. My recommendation is to bring lots of cash. Japan is a cash economy and most people don't steal. I was biking one day and dropped my wallet and after 20 minutes a car came by carrying my wallet and asking if I had dropped it.

    Peace~

  11. Long-time lurker. First time poster. Just wanted to know what Japanese street-wear / forward-fashion brands u guys have been recently feelin. Personally, I've been consistantly feelin' the Lad Musician style. It's always had the slimmed-down rock star/goth vibe similar to Number(N)ine and with Dior's recent show and the whole The Bravery victorian goth vibe. I'm feelin' the whole slim look will supercede the whole boot-cut, flared, distressed beyond imagination True-Religion/Seven bent. Also, although they've been around a while, I'm also feelin' Frapbois and Sisfury and the whole cut-and-sewn movement. It's definitely something I wish could translate to America.

    Peace~

  12. SARU is the name of a fictional street gang in a manga called Tokyo Tribe. The manga is drawn by an artist named Santa Inoue and it originally started off as a monthly add-in for Japanese fashion magazine Boon. After the manga became popular, Santa started an entertainment company called Santastic Entertainment and added action figures, clothing, etc to his Tokyo Tribe brand. Santastic! Wear is the name of the clothing brand and it regularly puts out t-shirts with the SARU street gang name just like the shirts worn by the characters in his manga.
