  1. ^ a friend of mine collects that novel: in every country he buys a translation.

Lots and lots of Meester en Margarita's in the world.

I'm just starting to learn about the role and influence this book has in modern western culture and it's amazing. I found this website in four languages that is entirely dedicated to it and discusses every single detail in the book and every play, movie and music related or inspired by it. The guy behind it even studied Russian just so he could read it in its original language. Never knew the book had such a dedicated following.

  2. lets say there is a mexican-american dude who has been living in korea for the past 2 months and he is going to japan in a few days. will he have any problem going to japan without any hassle?

There are no restrictions, but they scan all incoming passengers at the airport for increased body temp with infrared cameras and you can be put in detention at a designated hospital if they identify any flu symptoms.

All these 'security measures' are quite pointless btw - the key characteristic of this virus is that a carrier can infect others for up to 7 days before any symptoms appear and is thus undetectable.

  3. Finally finished Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close today - very impressive read.

I'm thinking about reading another Murakami next, but so far I've only read Norwegian Wood and I loved it, so I'm a bit worried his more trippy/fantasy stuff will be disappointing.

Does any of you use www.goodreads.com? Great site for exploring new titles/authors.

  4. sounds like the worst game of poker. ever. Why not switch it up to a bridge game if you wanna sissy up the occasion?

a proper game of poker consists of smoke, alcohol, chips and a poorly lit room

Fortunately we're not in high school anymore, so we skipped snacks and opted for some nice single malt and __________.

  5. Dear junglejane,

I'm having some friends over tonight to play poker at my house. Realizing that playing poker with friends stylewise somewhat of a previous-level event, I had the idea of 'upgrading' the occasion a bit by serving some good wine and fancy snacks. I was thinking of a nice Sancerre with some raw oysters or perhaps just some boquerones and gambas in garlic/spicy olive oil. Do you have any good ideas? Please keep in mind that I'd prefer not to spend too much time in the kitchen.

    Yours truly,

    A loyal reader

Don't know if he acts, but anyway. I met an Irish girl in Australia once who wanted to take me back to her place, because she thought I looked like Chris Martin. I started freaking out when she kept asking me "how's Gwynnie?" and all her friends started taking pictures of me.
