  1. for better or worse, "urban" is actually the classification used within the apparel industry. unfortunately, there's little distinction in classifications, so prps ends up in the same category as rocawear half the time even if they're leagues apart. calling it a boutique brand, is almost worse though i've heard it described as such many times.

  2. isa is closing shop, to become a second nom de guerre. not sure what the differences will be, but the place is almost empty and there's a sign in the window.

  3. funny post.

akademiks or rather, donwan, who partly owns akademiks is who started PRPS (originally named PRPL). their quality is going up, not down considering they now have a couple deliveries worth of experience under their belt in the high-end japanese selvedge department. the denim is made at the very same manufacturer they started with, but the washes and details have become even more ambitious which is partly why the price points went up last year.

  4. what i find more insulting are the ragged out looking, one color printed tees put out by rogan and some others. no design considerations, just straight text or clip art. truthfully, they'd be easilly confused with abercrombie & fitch if abercrombie didn't design every graphic around their brand name. and then charge $60 for them... to me that's some hard faced shit to do.

yet i forgive them for their $160 hoodies cause those are on point and worth the loot, in my opinion.

  5. por vida:

i'd have to disagree with your statements on quality. though i don't generally wear ecko personally, their print quality is sick. granted the majority of their tees are simply margin building, simple graphics of their rhino logo (core shirts), they do dress them up with a handful of intricately illustrated and printed concept tees (crucial shirts). many of these incorporate as many as 14 screens and multiple processes and techniques including 6 - 8 color process prints, with spot colors, mixed with gel and high density inks. granted their pretty over the top, but the manufacturing involves industry leading techniques and quality. the ultra-oversized, urban cut blanks are another story.
