If you do a search, you'll see that this discussion has come up in the past, with a few suggestions. I quite like the Insadong area. If you can pick up the latest issue of bilingual (Japanese and English) art magazine ART iT, you'll find a cover story on the Korean art scene, as well as a guide to galleries, cafes, and art/design related shops.

I had no idea there was a Bape shop in HK. How does it compare to the Tokyo shops?

Beijing also seems to be seeing exciting things happening, especially with the art scene. There's a district, I forget the name, that has a huge warehouse that was turned into some sort of artists commune.
I like following Ziboy's photolog (although it's been down for the past few days):

Well, from what I keep reading (cover stories galore, like in TIME and PAPER SKY), Shanghai is the new "it" city in Asia. Lots of cool things happening there, be it in the art scene, or with shops and cafes/bars.

I spent the weekend playing GRAND THEFT AUTO: SAN ANDREAS. Enjoying San Fiero now. It's taken over my fucking life.

Favorite Wong Kar-Wail film? Probably IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE. The music, the costumes, the atmosphere... I am totally engulfed by it everytime I watched it. After that would probably be FALLEN ANGELS. I love the wackiness, and the manic feel it has. Kaneshiro Takeshi is just great in it.
As for "Six Days," I just thought that it was pretty damn cool of DJ Shadow to get him to direct a video (and I wonder if it was hard to get him to do it). I thought it was nice. Did you also see the short he made for the first BMW "The Hire" series? That was cool too, although nothing amazing. What sucks is that I have the DVD for that, but the Wong Kar-Wai is not on it. Forrest Whitaker was an ass, and refused to let them have the DVD rights -- it started as an online-only project -- unless he got a BMW car. He eventually got one, and a future release of the DVD includes that short.
For 2046, I've pretty much ignored any reviews (except for the two gushing reviews in TIME), as I want to see it with no expectations. From all the trailers I've seen, I can't see myself not enjoying at least part of the film (the visual play).

It was a torrent, yeah, but I can't quite remember the name of the file. As far as I know, there are no real DVD rips out yet, just the screener. It didn't look that bad, but for this movie, I think the visuals are quite important.

Haven't seen it yet, but can't wait. I downloaded a version a couple of weeks ago, a screener, but the quality was still sort of shitty (telecine-like), so I'll wait some more.

Any film by Wong Kar-Wai (like the beautiful new box set that was just released in the US), or Zhang Yimou.

I went to Taipei earlier this year, and would not say that it's a stylish place at all. Felt a lot like any big city in China. Now, don't get me wrong, I had a great time, especially at the night market (and it has to be said that I was just there for a weekend), but I wouldn't put in a style list.
Osaka in not like Tokyo, but rather as its own wacky character. Some interesting design-related shops/buildings and cafes seem to be popping up in Kyoto.
Shanghai is the hyped Asian city of the year, making it on the cover of a few magazines recently (TIME and PAPER SKY). It might be overyhype, but it still has me wanting to go there.

Last time I was in Seoul, I quite enjoyed the Insadong area. Lots of nice cafes, some design shops, etc.

I don't usually care much about quakes, as they're quite frequent here, but man, there's just been so many in the past week! It's getting worrisome.

I went to Seoul last year, and quite liked the Insadong area. Nice cafes, and design shops even.

Man, Jobs is a master. I've been reading all of the rumors about the iPod Photo, and didn't really feel like it was something I needed (I have a 40GB 3rd generation one). Then I saw the keynote. Now I want one. I even want the fucking socks.

SUPERFUTURE t-shirts! Holy fuck! I NEED one!
I had a great time with Jesper tonight. Checked out a few things in Daikanyama, dropped by at a few parties (mostly Swedish Style stuff), and ended up at Office in Aoyama. I just hope that the weather gets better tomorrow...

We should meet up sometime. I'll be busy for the next two weeks (friend in town visitning, and Designer's Week/Block), but we should go out for drinks after that.

Good idea, Chad. I'm going to put these in my WINKsite, and then I'll be able to read them on the move.

I saw these at Parco Part 3 yesterday. I like the second one, but in black.

Right now you stills see hats, but not so much trucker hats (they were big in the past year). Light top, with skirt, and long tight pants underneath. I can't think of what they're wearing on their feet right now, but I don't think I see high heels like before.

I don't think they deliver outside of Japan. I have lots of their tees, bought at their shops in Tokyo. Love them.
