Happy jeans: TCBxSufu S40s WW2 contest thread

My daughter had a virtual spring singing recital today, and the theme was "dress like an adult" and she dressed up like me. I am still mentally 17 years old though. Maybe not her teacher's intention. She did want to wear the contest jeans, though, which I reclaimed after the recital.

I have not been on a plane in a couple of years at least, but it is a good thing I have been recently vaccinated as holy [email protected]$! there were a lot of people in the airport and the plane was completely full. But here is a picture of the jeans. Funny how the light makes both legs look different. Flying Alaska as I almost always do. Here are some bonus desert pictures at my destination

@lee porter I believe you ordered the 42 2000t already, but I have a pair of the 2000t No.1 denim in size 42 and the measurements are as follows. I believe they were one washed when purchased. I have probably worn them less than 20 times. My spouse got them for me on a trip to Japan a couple of years ago. I wish she had not gotten the tapered fit, but it was a great gift regardless. They are really only worn when I need a pair of unfaded jeans since I have too many, well, assuming the loud red embroidered gulls are still cool wherever I am going. original (cm) / cold soak / current waist 96.5 / 94 / 97 front rise 28 / 28 / 28.5 thigh 35.5 / 34 / 34 inseam 80 / 80 / 80 leg 19.5 / 19 / 19 Pictures, since I busted them out to measure. Model is "Lot.2000T (No.1 / MOMOME Embroidery / Red) Slim Tapered Fit"

Went to the coast for the weekend. Usually go clamming this time of year, but the toxin levels are currently too high. But I guess the bivalves are happy about that. I may be looking west over the Pacific to Japan, but I am more likely to be looking at Russia. I had a campfire last night, but the jeans seemed to have repelled any smoke smell. The thread almost got relegated to the second page!

These have been worn everyday since the start, but perhaps like many others the pandemic has put a big damper on the fading. These are perhaps a bit darker in real life; looking at my original pictures they are ever-so-slightly lighter than they were new. I have not washed them yet, and given the pandemic may not have to for quite a while. The fades on the rear left pocket are from a metal cat thing my wife gave me specifically to fade in these jeans. I am normally not into that but she was a good sport about me getting another pair of fancy jeans I didn't really need. The ear points are going to poke through soon, I think.

@chicote My jeans always fade primarily on the thighs and not so much the seat. I actually wish they would fade less on the thighs to make the whiskers a bit more prominent, but my efforts always come to naught. I don't know what I am doing to get them; no adult activities involved. Anyways, here is an example.

    Unknown Non-Japanese Brands

The 31/33 oz colored weft Old Blue's are out. Dunno how many are available as I originally thought they were pre-order only. (Un)Fortunately for me, I just got the TCB S40's for their contest so I am far less inclined to get these. Well, I really want to get them (colored weft super heavyweights!), but good judgement is winning out. I am glad they aren't green or olive weft as I would have already ordered them. Pictures from their site. They definitely have gone full western cosplay over the past few years.

I posted earlier about how it wasn't as bad this year in Washington State, but well clearly it was too early to say that. Here is a picture of what it looked like yesterday morning (credit to the person in the watermark). Not as bad today, though, but it is still smoky.

@Duodequinquagesimus I am pretty old now according to the kiddies and my spouse, but I am still about the lower rise, never wash (ok I will wash sometimes) fades honeycombs stacks whiskers... and cats of course. I am all about loose fits, though, and have never liked tight jeans.

What are your jeans doing today?

I was going to put these in the TCB contest thread, but they are more appropriate here. My first wearing of the contest jeans! The progeny took more pictures of the jeans from various angles but they didn't really come out great. Downtown Seattle skyline over Lake Washington. The floating bridge to the right is the western terminus of Interstate 90 and leads to Bellevue. Mount Tacoma (Rainier) rawring over the landscape. A friendly heron. Maybe not friendly to the fishes.

I don't even remember the last time I saw a newspaper for sale (my brain probably just edits them out), so I am just using an electronic version for the date. I was bored waiting for Sep 1 so I ended up hot soaking them again and did get more shrink in the inseam and rise. I wish I got even more shrink in the rise as it will take some getting used to. There is also a picture of my previous main pair (NBDN Lord Leviathan III 32+oz) that are sad they are getting replaced for the next 18 months. I am kind of sad, too. I will probably break these in walking about a local park later.

@Dan_F I specifically asked for the patch on my pair; it's not a standard thing. I saw on Instagram at least one other person got the patch but they got theirs on the inside on a pocket bag.

@julian-wolf I really wanted to get the No Shampoo Club t-shirt but my spouse barely tolerates the $$$ I spend on fancy pants and I did not want to get into a discussion about $60 T-Shirts. Though in retrospect I maybe could have gotten them both and rolled the t-shirt price into that of the jeans.

So to help (or to increase?) people's anxieties here are some measurements of my rigid 38 pair after a 30 minute hot soak with agitation in my bathtub (hang dry). Hot in this case is whatever temp came out of the hot tap. I am comparing the numbers to the OW chart. Size 38 OW Chart => Rigid after hot soak WAIST 96 => 91 (95) THIGH 34.8 => 33 (33.5) RISE 35 => 35 HEM 23.4 => 23 The two numbers in parenthesis are the measurements after I tried them one for only a few minutes. As one can see, the thigh number is a little past the low end of what I would consider acceptable variance (0.5 in / 1.25 cm) and the waist number is a whopping 2 in / 5 cm off. I tried them on and did not have any trouble buttoning and only had them on for a couple minutes... walked about, did a few squats, etc. I measured again afterwards and there was a lot of stretch in the waist and even a bit in the thigh. So the 38s seem to be reasonable. Obviously the smaller sizes may be different. I am glad they lost another inch on the rise. Still very high. My inseam shrunk to exactly what I wanted which was nice. Also no/minimal leg twist which is even nicer. Still thinking about doing another hot soak, but I think I probably won't and will just cold wash later.

@roomtemplacroix did you get a lot of shrink after the second wash? I usually only soak/wash once, but was considering doing another (mine are currently drying now) since I think I read somewhere even the OW versions have some shrink left in them.

I had been contemplating getting one of their Tabby Coats before the contest was announced. I think I saw they had special pandemic patches on their blog.

Chart Measurements => My measurements for size 38 raw presoak: Waist 101.4 => 99 Thigh 36.3 => 36 Rise 37 => 37.5 Knee 27.28 Hem 24.5 => 24.5 Length 98.7 => hemmed to 85 I would usually get the waist flat and double it, but I couldn't in this case so the 99 is an actual circumference measurement... probably a bit more than 99 in actuality. They look a little like clown pants on me now, but should be great once they are soaked. I don't remember when I had a pair of pants with this high a rise... maybe when I was a kid.

What are your jeans doing today?

The jeans were in southern Washington State along the Columbia River the other day. The jeans picture (not taken by me) was at a Stonehenge replica monument for the locals who died during WWI. It was very hot but the 32oz NDBNs were still comfortable. For me at least. Stopped by the nearby Maryhill Winery for a tasting and some snacks. Then went up Dog Mountain which was nice but had a 3000' elevation change in like 2.5 miles. I did put on hiking boots for that. Per some recent discussion in the General Nonsense thread, a fire had just broken out across the Columbia in Oregon, but it had just started so I did not see any smoke and had learned about it after getting back from the hike.

Fires in WA and OR as usual too, but not as bad as it had been the last few years when huge swaths of WA were choked with smoke. Tho I guess there is still time for that to happen.

assuming I get them before the 1st, I will probably soak them the day before and actually start wearing them on the 1st. my current primary pair will be sad when the TCBs come in, but they need repairs anyway.
