Did you measure the 47's before you soaked them? They may have been bigger than tagged size. I've measured 1954's in the same waist size but different leg lengths and there was a consistent +1" difference in the waist on the longer leg.

Sadly no I didn't..as I really thought they would shrink to a 34" after my conversation with the shop staff. Not sure I have the budget for another pair just yet, but will be doing that in the future.

  2. I thought I write down my experience with a couple of Raw LVC jeans I purchased. I recently got two pairs of LVC Levis. One was 1947 36W x 34L, and a 1954 34W x 32L. I prefer the leg to shrink to a 30", and the waist to 34". The 1947 had a slightly longer leg than I wanted, but that's all they had in stock.

The 1947, I soaked in a hot bath and wore them until they were dry. I wore them for a few days, but I found that they didn't really shrink to a 34" waist. The leg did shrink a lot, but still a bit too long for me, but I expected that. They jeans were baggy all round especially in the hips and bum, and I had to wear a belt with them. I tried soaking them again without me in them, but not much changed. I then washed them with no soap inside out in the washing machine at 40c. This has shrunk the leg more, but not the waist. The colour in these are good, but haven't kept that nice dark dark blue denim.

The 1954 I soaked in a hot bath and again wore them until they were dry. These have shrunk to me, and they fit perfectly. The length is perfect and the waist just right, also the colour looks fantastic. I know I can't wash these in the machine as they will probably shrink too much. Generally I don't machine wash my LVC as I like to keep the colour.

I was told to by the shop that I should purchase 2" extra in the waist because of shrinkage, but from my experience from these two jeans I should always get my tagged waist size as they don't seem to shrink as much as they say they will. I was expecting the 36" to go to a 34", but this hasn't happened. I was also worried the 34" would go to a 32"..but I thought it was worth the risk.

I don't think the 1947 will shrink much more, and I really don't want to put them through the machine again as they may loose more colour. Any ideas how I can shock shrink?? If there is such a thing. I like the 1947, but prefer a more fitted look without a saggy arse! Overtime they may shrink more, but I doubt they will ever be a 34" waist. My favourites are the 1954.

    Thanks for reading.....
