  1. @ jwood - yeah, I can't say that the gf none too thrilled about this but I am trying to get as much contrast as possible in the fades. I am and will continue to wear this as a shirt with no undershirt so in order to make the washes/soaks as infrequent as possible without putting off some serious funk, I am wearing the shirt to bed.

I'll probably stop doing this at the four week mark and just wear/wash like a normal shirt.

  2. Sorry for the double post but I forgot to mention that I tried on the dark indigo supply jacket on as well. Same fit as the waxed canvas and last year's of the denim supply jacket. The denim looks sick as hell. I would have purchased it was it not for my serious urge to get something waxed ASAP for spring and the fact that I am still working on my current RgT denim jacket.

  3. Indigo Canvas Work Shirt

I bought this about a month ago and beyond wearing it for four entire days, I have been wearing it to bed every night for the past 3 weeks. Beware, the shirt bleeds a lot even after two soaks and three weeks of pretty constant wear. After one night of wear, the interior of my waxed canvas jacket absorbed the dye pretty well. I like that but some may not. After 3 30min soaks in cold water with Woolite to clean/freshen it, the canvas hasn't really soften up that much nor has it really lost any dye. As for the fit, it is tailored and similar to that of last year's run of the denim utility work shirt. Despite being tailored, you can still layer things underneath (did it with the indigo jumper) and button it up without causing the shirt to pull.

    Waxed Canvas Jacket

Currently rocking the recent run and loving every moment. Since buying the jacket, it literally has become a 5-10min internal debate as to which one I should wear each monring--RgT demin supply jacket or the waxed canvas. Again, I caution those that want wear but don't necessarily want their jacket to absorb everything (e.g. indigo). Beyond the incident mentioned above, indigo from my SG 2109s which are on their 3rd month bled onto the sleeve due to resting my arm on my leg. I don't care about this but some might. I would ask everyone to seriously contemplate the jacket. The fit is impeccable. As a proxy, the waxed canvas's fit is similar to fall's run of the denim supply jacket.

    Jumper Shirt Short Sleeve (Indigo)

I bought this at the same time as the waxed canvas jacket. I haven't worn it out yet as the weather in Chicago is currently too cold but will be shortly when I visit Mexico! The shirt fits a littler looser through the mid-section in comparison to last year's run of both the denim work shirt and current run of the indigo canvas work shirt. By no means is the jumper loose; it is still a tailored fit. I just think that the jumper is intended to have that more relaxed/summery vibe.

Just in case RgT is browsing the forum - you guys rock. The fit of your shirts and jackets is amazing. I cannot tell you how hard it is to find a tailored shirt for a build that has broad shoulders and a narrow torso. You guys have nailed it. The articles feel as if they were cut for me.

  4. Got it. Man, every time I see something fabricated using denim from Nihon Menpu the evo of the garment never ceases to impress me. If your work shirt is any indication of how my supply jacket will evolve brandl, I cannot wait for it to start opening up more...

  5. ^^^Agreed. You don't want to size up with that kind of stretch and then end up with the dreaded frontal wedgie/cod piece effect caused by the belt cinching. I am curious about the thigh as well. With that much give in the waist, I can't help but imagine that the pant is stretchy all around.

  6. I just got the double indigo canvas work shirt from the 2014 F/W lineup. I am working on an appropriate review of the garment along with the Rogue supply jacket (Nihon Menpu run) and hope to have something up shortly.

Regarding the work shirt's fade properties, I am trying to glean them from the various posts on the threads but it seems like there were different runs of this model. From pics circa 2009, it looks like a denim weave as opposed to canvas. Do my eyes deceive me?

Those pics posted by brandl - is that the double indigo canvas work shirt?!?!?! If so, I am really freaking excited!

I know. I know. I should have probably done some upfront research before purchasing. The problem is I tried it on randomly at a local store, and the fit was impeccable not to mention the beautiful color and detailing of the shirt itself. It was simply too good to pass up.

  7. @everyinchofgod - I was looking through the previous pages and couldn't find out whether you have another pair of SGs, and if so, what the tag size on them is.

I love the concept of the 5xxx denim and would love to consider getting a pair of these down the road after the summer but that top block (especially the rise) just seems too small for me. I am just trying to determine whether that top block is a result of sizing down or if it is that way by design.

From the mid-thigh down, those pants look great. Same goes for you mpukas.

  8. @cld33 - did you like the rest of the fit on the pant? If so you may want to get a larger size in the 2109. The proportionality should be around the same. I did that myself. I loved the 2105 but found the thighs WAY too tight. I sized up on a 2109 and couldn't be happier. The waist has some room but not annoyingly so. I can wear them without a belt and they are pretty much good to go though. SG waists run a little large for what I see in everyone's review.

Sorry to hear it didn't go well for you. The denim is great. Give it another shot. Best of luck.

  9. It's a bit unorthodox, but I do throw mine in the dryer. I don't do it until they are dry, I do it until they are damp this has gotten me the most shrinkage. I'm sure plenty will disagree with me on this method and I can't say I blame them, but it's always worked for me and my denim doesn't necessarily get ruined.

Although I haven't read about this, I see the logic behind it if you want agitation and the assurance that you won't experience movement in subsequent washes. How many pairs have you tried this process on? I am too inexperienced and nowhere near as ballsy as you are and play the anxious, "wait and see," approach. Meaning, soak again with agitation if the first go around didn't yield the amount of shrink I am going for.

  10. @drewbreeze - http://www.rawrdenim.com/2013/07/fade-friday-naked-famous-left-hand-twill-15-months-2-washes-2/

I believe that this is a good example of what left hand twill will get you in terms of fades. From what I have read and reviewed, the twill is intended to construct a softer fabric. Once worn in, the softer fabric will result in that blurred fade. I have also heard that it is harder to get high contrast fades with left hand twill due to the softness factor though I believe that, like all the fade pics you see, depends more on the end user.

Then again, people who are wearing LHT report none of the properties above. See the below link. Like some things on this forum you will eventually read yourself into a subjective abyss and come out more confused then when you went in. Rock them. The fit looks great and the denim is top notch. In the end isn't that what really matters?

  11. @supitskevin - check out my review on the SG2109s for sizing movement pre/post. Based upon your measurements on BiG, I would go with tag size 30. I am currently am wearing tag size 31, and based upon the waist, could fit into a 30 but that would make the thigh, knee, and most likely the rise too uncomfortable/tapered. Waists run a little loose on SG. I would focus on thigh, rise, knee, and leg opening measurements. In all likelihood, the waist will shrink up a bit once the pant gets its first wash, but as mupukas mentioned, the loose weave means the waist may shrink back out.

@kr00kd - were they too big around the waist or all around? Regarding soaks, I would not advise on a sizing in which you would only cold soak them prior to the first wear. While the top block doesn't experience that much movement, the inseam does. It will throw off your fades once you do get them in the wash.

  12. @laxlife1234: I am wondering how you were able to get more shrinkage. Based upon my measurements I thought I got more than most people, but am always looking for ways to improve upon the regimen I have used thus far. My regimen thus far: 6 stock pots of boiling water per 45min soak without agitation. Also regarding threading, are you referencing the arcuates?

  13. Thanks for the feedback. The idea was to get all the info I was searching for at the time of making a decision in one place. I forgot to mention that as stated in other reviews, there is little to no movement really in the denim after soaking except for the inseam. to put it another way, I may no longer need to hem them in order to get a decent looking cuff. The soak was 45min very hot soak > let dry > 45min very hot soak.

@dhadha - I cannot express to you how quality this denim is. Everything from the hue to the feel to the fit, SG has made it that much more difficult in deciding on that "next model."

@artisandenim - thankfully I wasn't wearing my Birkenstocks and sock combo at the time.

  15. SG 2109 Review (Tag Size 31)

Originally I tried a 29 in the SG2105s but the waist was WAY too tight. I pretty much liked the fit on the rest of the pant though so in order to get as close of a fit to the 29 SG2105 and have a comfortable waist, I went with a 31 in the SG22109.

As Kiya previously stated in the thread, if you're a 31" waist, go with tag size 31. Below are my initial thoughts and some detail pics. I'll also post measurements and pre-soak & post-soak pics as well. Going forward, I intend to upload pics periodically to show wear and fade characteristics.

    Initial Thoughts:

    • Fit: as stated elsewhere in the forum, the waist does run a tad large in comparison to the rest of the pant. This should be fine though once you eventually wash/dry the pant though. SG may have taken this into account hence the roomier waist relative to the silhouette of the paint. I would not size down to achieve a smaller waist size, but then again, I have been converted to the school of wearing it as it was designed to be worn with respect to measurements and silhouettes. Rise is good for me. I am very wary of low rises.
    • Silhouette: to me, it is a hybrid of a taper/slim and straight leg--the perfect sizing for someone who typically gets a slim/taper silhouette but wants to dip their toes in the more classic fits. Post soak, it fits similar to the S710s (tag size 29 post soak) through the thigh but tapers slightly at the knee.
    • Detailing: Impeccable. The more I look at these jeans the more I appreciate the thought and craftsmanship that went into them. Initial highlights are: gold threading of the selvedge; the copper/iron rivets and the unique character they possess given that you have two different materials comprising the rivet, making for slightly irregular rivets throughout the pant (male end already showing some minor oxidation after the soaks!);  chain stitch runoffs; and the lime green threading present throughout the pant.
    • Denim: the weave of the weft/warp looks awesome on both sides of the pant. I was somewhat apprehensive of the mud-dyed weft given the fact that these will be worn constantly and with a cuff, but the depth it adds to the color and texture of the pant removed any of my initial uneasiness. As stated on the SE page, the demin pre-soak and post-soak is pretty rough, but again, I think that just adds to the wonderful character of the fabric itself, resulting in what will surely be an irregular look and feel down the road that is unique to the wearer akin to the fades.

  16. Brandl - thanks much for posting the pics. The denim looks great and is showing some great character. I agree about the weight being a limiting factor for wear since it is in denim jacket territory, but I am really intrigued by the idea of a piece that can be used as a light jacket with the aesthetic of a shirt. Great for layering.

Even though it is sanforized, did you get any shrinkage post wash?

  17. @ Brandl - I am wondering if you were able to locate those pics of your SD denim shirt. Also, I am wondering whether there was any shrinkage after a wash/soak. I know it comes one washed but in my case that means some shrinkage still if even minimal.

I only ask because I like a tapered silhouette and that is a dangerous game to play on the internet for someone with broad shoulders and narrow waist.

    Thanks.

  18. Hi everyone. New to the forum so please if there is already information on the topic my apologies but I cannot find anything on Studio's 14oz denim shirt. Anyone have any experience with it, its fade potential, or any fit pics? Thanks.
