It looks to me like the stitching is still doing it's job but that the denim there is starting to split along where it's folded for the seam. I would say get that repaired while there's still material under there that the repair can be anchored to. I've heard a few repair people say that if you can see weft, it's time to get it repaired.

I would turn them inside out and wash them on hot with no detergent. That will get the maximum amount of shrinkage.

If the tees are anything like the sweats, I was told September, and the shipment came in January.
