  1. Awesome! Congrats to all the other winners as well! Thanks Left Field and BlackBlue. What a rad experience, definitely echoing everybody else about how great it was and of course super great updates @formulapfaff!

  2.

awesome! the jacket looks great too

Thanks! Forgot to mention I'm wearing the left field flight jacket. It's been my go to jacket for the last two winters. It's pretty warm until about 20 or so degrees and then I gotta throw a few layers underneath. I've been loving it. No signs of wearing out yet!

  3. Alright guys, here’s my final update for the sweats, photos taken by my friend Kyle about a week ago. This is my first fade competition and it’s been a lot of fun, especially because it’s for wearing something to lounge around in.

I think I waited about 3 or 4 months to wash, and have washed about once a month since then. So maybe 6 or 7 washes. I was able to wear them a bit throughout the summer, but only really when walking my dog. I moved to CA in them, and then back to Chicago in them. Generally they are the first thing I put on in the morning. I walk my dog about 2 miles a day, and for the last 3 or 4 months I’ve been wearing them through salt, snow and slush, which I think helped contribute to the cuff fading. As soon as I get home the sweats go on. Lots of playing and wrestling my dog, which I think contributed to the worn out knees, and recently she caught my pocket with her nail which ripped it even further. I’ve tried to wear them while doing other things like brewing, some minor wood working projects, and lots of errands.

I’ve been really impressed with how great the fabric is on these. When I had to take them off to wash, and put on my other sweats, it really hit home how awesome and warm these are, which is crucial for Chicago winters. Hopefully, I’ll be able to pick up the newer cut of the sweats and treat them a little better than these competition ones.

Without further ado here are the photos. Good luck to everybody in the competition!

  4. @emperor glad my landlord handled all the shoveling out here for me. I've been walking charlie though, roads and sidewalks still aren't clear, so it's been up to my knees in the sweats. Too dark to take pics though.

  5. Those photos were from april. The sweats have come a long way. They are really dirty right now from walking in melted snow and mud and haven't been washed for about a month. I walk my dog Charlie a couple miles in them every day, and play with her a lot. Other than that I just wear them basically nonstop on weekends and when i get home from work. The fades I think show up a lot more right after being washed. I think this is 6 or 7 washes, I'll probably wash them this week and then right before the final pictures, which I promise will be taken with a better camera.

I've been trying to wear them pretty hard, so a hole has developed in the knee and on one of the cuffs. Also both of the pockets are starting to tear on the bottom. I haven't decided if I'll repair these before the contest ends or just see where they go.

Thanks for looking, and sorry for crowding up the thread.

  6. Those are some serious butt fades @Formula Pfaff. I still can't believe you kind of have whiskers forming.

I really need to update as well. I keep meaning to do it on weekends and things get in the way. I had a bunch of pics of me wearing them in both my moves across country but seem to have lost them. Oh well

  7. If I might ask, why a hot dog?

I've lived in Chicago for about 3 years, but am moving back to CA. I wanted to get something remember my time here. Couldn't really think of anything else and I thought it was kinda fun. And then yeah it's a Chicago dog, so not just any ol hot dog.

  8. Hey Brian.  The shorts inseam length is graded by size, but new for this season we will be offering two different short fits.

Our Angus Young short is a classic slim fit with right above the knee inseam made of Japanese twill.  New for the spring we'll also be offering the Magnum PI short which is a 70/30 cotton nylon in a shorter inseam.  They're meant to be a versatile go-to for summer.  You can wear them to the beach, hiking, bar or whatever you want.

The Angus Young will be available in black, navy, olive drab, wine, khaki, teal, and camo.  The Magnum PI will be available in black and French navy.

Might have to get some of the French Navy Magnum PIs. Gotta show off those unmuscular quads!

  9.

That's really rad!  I've only been in the industry professionally since August, but from what I gather it seems like you just fly by the seat of your pants and learn as you go along.  That's cool that you know the BN guys; they seem awesome and they certainly know a lot.

I definitely plan on doing a lot of that, and a lot of experimenting and fun beers that will only be released at the tap room. I was on that show they did awhile ago, if you wanna see some embarrasing footage of me like 4 years ago http://www.kofytv.com/byob-tv/archive/

  10. Go to Revolution Brewery for their beers which are delicious, and Boiler Room for a PB&J (slice of pizza, tall boy of PBR and a shot of Jameson, for $7.50), they're easily accessible by train (Blue line) and both a lot of fun.

Big Star can also be a blast, delicious cocktails, good beer list and tacos. It's also good people watching.

These are like weekly visits for me!

  11. Make it happen! I got a bit lucky and managed to score a job at one the TC's best (IMO) new breweries. It's soooo different than home brewing haha.

Where do you live? I'm on mobile right now so I don't see profile info.

TC is twin cities? I'm living in Chicago right now, but in a few weeks I'm moving to SF east bay, where I'm from originally. I'm jumping right in and working on opening my own brewery, only brewed one professional batch at a pro-am thing with 21st Amendment. I know a lot of the brewing network guys, so that should be a good resource for info and people to help me out. I have initial investors lined up, just waiting for me to finalize my plans to get more funding. It's gonna be fun, but scary as hell!

mfarm, it's been a few years since I lived in Illinois, but if you all are craft brew/belgian beer fans, you might try to hit up the map room or the hopleaf. both are quite a bit north from downtown tourist zones, but a redline route on the "el" gets you in the neighborhood (edgewater, wrigleyville, etc.). whatever you do, don't waste your $$ going up the hancock for the "observation deck." Instead, take the free elevator up to the 96th or so floor restaurant/bar for free and spend your $10 on a cocktail while enjoying the same 360 view. If you like aquariums, the Shedd is actually one of the few I've been to that's worth it.

    bon voyage

Yeah, we all live in Chicago. I actually live about a 10 min walk from map room and have been to hopleaf a bunch. I think the idea of what we're thinking of for tomorrow is to just wear sweats in fancy places. The guy that runs Bad Wolf Coffee seems kind of like the soup nazi, and Hancock has kicked me out for wearing a tank before (but they didn't have a problem with jorts). Definitely never paid for the observation deck there, always just get a beer, which is worth it for the view.

  12. Snapped a quick pic of the Greasers while at work waiting for the grist case to fill up for tomorrow's brew day.  The lighting is pretty poor, but these got covered in grain dust.

Very cool to see another brewer here! I'm just home brewing right now, but working on changing that.

  13. thanks!  hope the wash goes well.  i'm trying to hold out until april 1 for a wash a month, but feel like they're due now

and you're considering power tools in a major us city?  very jealous.  wish that was possible in ny.    :P

Yeah I spilled some food on them and they are kinda starting to smell. I thought I'd be able to hold out longer...

I have a circular saw and some other smaller stuff right now, but it all packs away pretty quick and I've build some stuff for brewing just in my landlords parking spot, but I'm actually moving back to the bay area in about a month. I'll have access to my dad's tools once I'm out there, but it's always nice to have your own new stuff! I need to build some more brewing things and am hoping to slowly replace my ikea furniture with stuff I've built myself.

  14. @formulaPfaff thanks man! Great pics and such a cool idea with the gifs. I’m gonna have to get you to take some good fit pics for me this weekend! I think I might wash them before then. That should bring the waist in. I might be able to squeeze a little more length out of them.

@pepper drawstring has been working great, and I’m definitely happy to keep wearing them that way. I think a hot soak up top should shrink it some though. Great looking pup too!!!

@jyoni haha I was for sure just kidding. I got some fun activities planned for them and if it keeps staying this cold I should have plenty of time wearing them for the fades! How’s the festool stuff? I’ve only looked at any of it briefly, worth spending the extra dough for a hobbyist?

  15. @jortslife- I can dig it! You look so happy!

And I agree I cannot compete with jyoni. I will have to roll around in dirt or something to have a shot at winning haha.

I'm pretty excited about it haha.

I think I need to pick up a new hobby like mining or forrestry to wear these sweats in.

  16. Last night I went and got a new tattoo, of course decked out in a bit of Left Field gear.QY2kDgNl.jpg

I've been wearing the flight jacket a lot this winter, basically any time it gets above 20, otherwise I need some more insulation.

The sweatpants have been great, and I've been super impressed with how well they go with everything and kinda just take the place of jeans. There a little big in the waist though, so if anybody has any thoughts on just shrinking that part without shrinking the inseam I'd love to hear them. I'm already seeing fading on the inseam, especially where my feet might rub together. There's also a lot of fading on the inside of the hem. Unfortunately the phone on my camera can't really pick it up in my apartments light.

I'm also wearing a left field tee in these photos. Hands down the best tees for the price.

BTW how are we supposed to compete with jyoni doing construction in sweats!!!??
