  1. Congrats to everybody!

What an awesome way to begin the weekend. This has been such a fun experience with all of you. Left Field is such a kickass company and the people into the products are a really welcoming group. Everybody's hospitality and enthusiasm made it super easy to delve into the sufu forums for the first time and motivated me to be active in the thread. This was my first competition of this sort and I must say I am hooked! Now the hard part of deciding what to get with the prize...

    Thanks y'all!

  2. @Formula Pfaff When I saw that my pics had to follow your pictures, I was like "..oh .. oh no." I think this is probably everyone's reaction since you always have such nice shots!

Thanks for the kind words dude. I must say, that was my exact reaction when I saw you post yours too. "Oh shit those are too good..." haha

  3. Wow, I can’t believe it’s already been a year in these things. It's been really interesting working these into my wardrobe for such an extended period. Jeans are one thing, but wearing sweatpants day to day for a year is a crazy endeavor. Once I got them I was pretty surprised how well you can dress them up. With boots and a button down or jacket long enough to cover the drawstring, they honestly pass for slacks to the casual eye. I even got into a night club with a pretty strict dress code in these and I was even able to fool my entire office for a whole summer into thinking they were real pants. It wasn’t until I mentioned “my sweats†to a coworker that they realized what I was up to. Although they definitely are not fast faders, I really enjoyed watching them evolve over the year. Ever since I saw Jyoni’s sweatshirt I knew I wanted in on these sweats. The fading reminds me a little of heavyweight left hand twill denim. I washed them right before my final photos so i think that puts me at 2 soaks and 2 machine washes. Honestly they never actually got dirty enough to really need a wash, but the fit is so much better after they run through the dryer and tighten up.

On my pair, I’m most happy with the thigh fading. I love the depth of color in the thighs compared to the lower leg. Being able to look down and see that spectrum of color is really interesting to me. I am a little bummed the honeycombs didn’t turn out a bit more pronounced, but I guess I can’t complain too much considering they’re so soft and not very tight around the knees. I really liked the way they were stacking over my engineer boots so i mostly wore those together when not around the house. As far as activity, I never got super active in them compared to some of the other competitors. Lots of walking when I was in Chicago and a lot less now that I’m in Fort Worth with a car. I worked on my Mazda a couple times in them but didn’t want to stain them too much to wear to work every day. This was my first competition and I am really happy i decided to do it with Left Field. Such a cool company with a lot of new interesting stuff and a very welcoming group of people. Y’all are awesome.

I wanted to do film photos, but with the weather i couldn't get anything developed yet so i took digital ones just in case. Im gonna try to get my film developed tomorrow. These are the digital ones and I have not edited them (
no touching that contrast slider!) except for white balance. Anyways, hope y'all enjoy my photos and hopefully don't get too pissed at me for filling the whole page again...

  4. Yeah, I know what loopwheeling is, don't own anything, but I was wondering if tube knitting is the same thing.

I believe the difference is tubular knit = no side seams + normal knitting machine

whereas loopwheel = no side seams + special no tension (if you ignore gravity) machine that knits without torquing the fabric

That afternoon we headed to my uncle's house where he'd been clearing a ton of dead trees from his land.

He lost a lot of trees after the drought a few years ago. He had a nice deal arranged with a guy in town to clear it all for free if the guy kept the wood.

After we finished our tour of the tree clearing operation, my dad, uncle, and I headed to my grandmother's for some coffee.

After coffee, we disbanded and headed home. Once back at the lake house I continued to confuse my dad by taking more photos of my sweatpants...

    THE END

  6. PART 1

Back in November i took a trip to our lake house in East Texas with my dad to winterize the place. I shot some film while I was there and totally forgot i had a couple rolls to develop. So now that I finally got around to developing that, I have some film (and crappy android) photos of that trip in my sweats.

I checked all the tire pressures before we got underway.
    ZICX20fl.jpg

and after the two hour drive up there, we got a not-so-warm welcome from the thermostat... (that's indoor temp)
    VgQZRrml.jpg

That meant FIRE TIME. So i grabbed a bundle of firewood and started up the furnace.
    iSVddq0l.jpg
    tpKZQjLl.jpg

My dad brewed some tea and made us hot sandwiches to help us warm up.
    SLcC2tMl.jpg

I took a different approach to warming up...
    gzcOL8fl.jpg

Finally warm and relaxed, thanks in part to the sweats no doubt.
    Tpfj7Uvl.jpg

Anyway...on to the next day and the film photos! If i remember correctly they were Kodak Portra 400 and Fuji Superia 1600.

My dad has been slowly transforming the front yard to a small forest, so he wanted to show me and inspect everything was going well with the cold.

Film selfie while I was bored. No shame...
Every time I catch the sweats in winter light on film I am always ecstatic how great the color is. Im starting to think I'll have to do film and digital for my final shots just to showcase the depth of color.

Here is probably my favorite shot of the sweats I have. Such great color on them and they really pop against the OD denim and brown leaves.

  7. Yesterday I had a nice reprieve from work thanks to the ice that came to Fort Worth Sunday night. Here's a couple pics of me in my sweats walking around the "winter wonderland" and enjoying some cider outside on the porch.

  8. @jyoni I have been really digging the chainstitch embroidery stuff from LF and seeing you do it by hand is just crazy. That hand sewn patch is very cool. The way you drew attention to a spot that was about to be an "eyesore" to most people is awesome.

I really need to come up with something cool enough to get embroidered by LF...itching to get something done for myself after that badass eagle on Instagram.

  9. Thanks to the turn signal lever on my car about a week ago I had the unfortunate experience of ripping open the right pocket on my sweats.

I caught my pocket on this guy while getting into my car...
    K2cDvmFl.jpg

And ended up with this inch long rip along the top of the pocket.

    VtGfAcsl.jpg

And this smaller rip along the bottom. This is my first time trying to repair anything on my own, so I was pretty nervous I'd just make it worse trying to mess with it.

    4uWAqF6l.jpg

I laid out some different thread options to compare and tried my best to match the color with what i had.

    htsp2X6l.jpg

So here's the top of the pocket after I did a kind of x-pattern whipstitch back and forth a few times. It's not very good, But for my first time I was reasonably pleased since it felt secure. Because they are so stretchy, it was difficult for me having to align both the jersey and the terry fabrics together as i stitched. There's definitely some puckering at the end of the repair, but oh well.

    BhYUlsQl.jpg

Here is the bottom after i did the same type of stitch. This one looks way better, probably because it was not the first repair and because the rip was much shorter.

    ZGSSM9jl.jpg

Here's how it looks from my view while wearing them. It's not a pretty repair, but my shirt covers it up most of the time anyways.

And another side view of it.

  10. @jortslife your sweats are looking awesome! I wish i could meet up and help you take more pics in front of more minivans...too bad

@jyoni those are some crazy mods! I had thought to myself how cool it'd be to add belt loops or back pockets but I kinda let the idea fizzle out after I started wearing them a bunch. Very cool that you have changed them so much. I'd love to see a fit photo with a belt and everything once that last belt loop is on.

  11. @Formula wow. I can't believe you have noticeable whiskers and honeycombs on sweatpants. Crazy. I guess I have to really wear my sweats hard until the end of the contest. BRING IT

@EmperorSelassieEye thanks dude! From now on I'm trying to wear them every day until the end so we'll see if i can get a little more contrast out of them. I bet if you wore them more running you'd kick my ass for sure...I'm not nearly active enough in mine.

  12. and here are the indoor shots

I've realized the whiskers are most noticeable where the pocket bags are, most likely because the extra layer of fabric has added to the creasing ability and friction in that area.

The knee bags get pretty intense on these. They're probably the only section that is close to how faded the butt is.

It's too bad the whiskers aren't more intense, but that's the best I could do so far.

The most faded area by far and damn is it soft. It's basically a spotlight on my butt from how faded it is. It has taken on an almost emerald tone that I have yet to capture in photos. Additionally, this is the only area I have damaged the fabric so far. There's just the one tiny tear on the seam.

One of my favorite faded areas is the pockets. I rarely use them though, so they're not as cool as other people's on here. You can also see some of the fading from the waistband bunching around my hip.

Here's another shot of the waistband bunching.

Finally, here is a comparison of the most faded part of my pants and the week old crew neck i recently started wearing. The new crew is much more purple and navy in color. Once it fades, there's a whole slew of blues and slight greens that come through. I love the subtle way this fabric ages.

  13. First off, sorry to spam the thread will all these photos. I hope it's not too annoying.

I got around to taking some photos of the evolution on my sweatpants. There's finally some noticeable fading of all types on them, mostly just the butt though...oh well. These are at 3 washes I believe.

I took a first set in overcast daylight and then the next set on the floor of the garage under fluorescent lights.

  14. @Formula nice picts, where'd you find the Indigo crew? Getting close to the final stretch on the sweatpant contest so everyone involved bust them out, perfect timing it's fucking freezing in NYC.

Picked up one of the last 4 at BiG, the only place i could find them online. I had been getting more and more into sweatshirts lately and i kept coming back to this one. And after seeing a nicely faded one, nothing else was cool enough.

The difference between the broken in pants and the new crew are so interesting. I totally forgot how stiff and crunchy the fabric actually is. I showed my friends and they can't believe its the same fabric.

  15. It's been ages since I updated for the sweats contest, and I intend to do a rather annoyingly long update pretty soon, but for now I figured I'd share my excitement over my Christmas present to myself; the Indigo crew neck sweatshirt. Now I have a full indigo sweat suit a la @Jyoni and @satchelbmoore . Now I just need to dive into choctaw ridge and I can have a full suit of indigo everything from head to toe...underwear included.

Anyways, here are some pics of my old sweats vs new crew neck!

  16. The waist band is a rib so it will stretch, hot dry should return them back to the original size. One thing to note is when you're taking a piss don't pull them down tied in the front, make sure you untie so it doesn't stretch them out going over the hips. I took out about 4" this season in the waist from last season to note as well. C

too true. I've noticed mine stretch in the waist the most just from untying them to go to the bathroom and not so much from extraneous activity.

@konadog i would consider these a stretch to fit. At least that's my experience with the previous run that I have. I dig the more classic fit I have with my mediums right now, but i definitely could have done a small. They shrink a noticeable amount, but stretch back out in a day or even a couple hours, depending on your activity.
