  1. The washin machine is immaculate. I washed a load of white tshirts on cold before. I did a load of towels after. I have a tankless water heater so no worries there. I have no idea what happened. All I know is that I'm gonna have to pick up a new pair of jeans during Self Edge's black friday sale as I only have a single pair of black IHs now.

  2. @mpukas -  Actually it's a new washing machine (my own). We live in a house. No issues with any clothing before. I can't think of anything strange my jeans would have come in contact with. It's like all of the dark indigo took on a reddish/brownish tint with some of it bleeding through to the inside. The entire inside of the jeans have a rusty/browish hue to it now. So weird. Did a load of wash before and after this without issue.

  3. I think I might have accidentally destroyed a pair of two year old Iron Hearts. It had been a month or so since their last wash so I did my standard cold wash, air dry. Unfortunately they didn't dry out quite quickly enough and there was a slight mildew odor from the waist area.

I threw in some dissolved OxiClean/detergent and threw them into the wash to do a cold presoak/cold wash. Once finished I threw them onto the rack to dry out. There are brown stains throughout the inside. There is a brownish tint to almost the entire surface on the inside of the jeans. There's also a brownish/redish tint to in the areas on the front where the indigo is darker.

What in the holy hell happened? I've never had an issue like this before. the only wildcard factor was OxiClean to get the mildew smell out. Could OxiClean have caused this? I washed a pair of my black Iron Hearts using OxiClean without issue.

  4. I think the inner lining is the nylon? I love mine but my only complaint is that one of the buttons has already popped off. I'm looking at the other buttons and another one is ready to go, literally hanging on my a thread. I'm trying to find a place to bring it in to get the buttons sewn back on and reinforced. The buttons aren't sewn on all the way through to the inner lining so I can imagine a tailor is going to have to cut into the jacket, sew the buttons on and then resew the lining?

  5. Hi Kiya, if I wear a size small in all of my Iron Heart shirts should I simply go with a size small in the purple Iron Heart flannel? I looked at the size chart and it looks like it's a little bit bigger than last year's herringbone flannel, which I own in size small. The herringbone flannel is the smallest fitting IH shirt I own (I own the IHSH 85, 33 and a few others). So hard to tell because the size MEDIUM purple flannel is kinda similar in size to the size small IHSH-33!!

Size small or medium? That is the question...

  6. I picked up a pair of 5105s a little while ago and finally got around to giving them their first warm soak. I had to soak them in the kitchen sink. Folded them a couple of times inside-out and let them soak for a good 40 min. I'm letting them drip dry in the tub now and noticed that there are a couple of spots on the legs that aren't as dark as others-looks like maybe where they were folded the denim didn't absorb as much water? Will this be a problem?

i'm touching the 'lighter' areas and they're 100% wet. Weird. Should I give them another soak? Will that shrink them even further? Am I simply seeing the natural quality of the 5105s and don't worry?

Note: Not sure if this detail is helpful, but used a pot filled with water to keep the 5105s submerged fully in the water

  7. Is the Buzz peacoat at History Preservation the same as the one at Self Edge? History Preservation describes it as Buzz's "Pre-WWII U. S. Navy Pea Coat" while at SE it's called the "NAVY PEA COAT - USN 1910'S MODEL".

Both are 36 oz melton wool,  anchor surrounded by 13 stars 10-button, rayon-lined.  I believe they are the same but just wanted a second opinion.  Kinda mulling over the possibility of picking this up. Thanks.

  10. I've been sporting the Iron Heart 8301 and 8301s for the past year. Since purchasing the jeans I've started lifting and (especially in the IH 7301s)the jeans are kinda starting to get tighter than I like (I've put on about 8 lbs). Seems like my ass and thighs and waist grew a bit haha.

Anyways, I'm thinking that I may need to hook myself up with a new pair of jeans that aren't so friggin' slim fitting. Are the Strike Gold 1105 similar in fit to the IH 7301? Really wish Strike Gold had a black option.

  11. Harold, I believe the IH super black fades to grey fabric is extremely prone to streaking during the spin cylce. This will make weird fades marks that aren't desirable. My .02? If you don't have access to a machine, why not hand wash them?

    btw, post some pics!!

ah good call! yeah, would not be great to get some undesirable streaking on em. i guess hand-wash it is! any tips for handwashing super black fade to greys? will be sure to take before/after pics!

  12. I've been sporting my super black fade to grey 8301S for the past seven months and they're fading VERY nicely (they've faded way more than my indigo 301s, which I purchased at the same time, but admittedly, have been wearing a lot less).

I'm tempted to give them a wash but my only washing option is my corner laundromat where the door to the machine locks and I can't remove the denim before it goes through the spin cycle. The Iron heart website states, in CAPS "DO NOT use the spin cycle (this is the most important)"

Should I simply wait until I have an opportunity to use a washing machine where I can pull the jeans out they go through the spin cycle?

How bad will it be if I wash my 8301S in a machine that uses the spin cycle?

  13. A major snowstorm is about to hit New York in a couple of days and I'm finally going to invest in a pair of deep winter boots. I've never bothered to get a specific pair of footwear for this eight to ten week window of slush, ice, frozen rain, etc.

I wear a pair of Red Wing heritage/handsewn boots as my normal day-to-day boot.

I kind of would like something solidly constructed, waterproof, warm, grippy.. maybe something like a timberland yellow work boot? Any recommendations?

  14. I am now realizing I'm just not a hooded sweatshirt kind of guy. I'm more of a crew guy.

For sale is a brand new (I literally wore it for about an hour at work, sitting in a chair, at a computer) Iron Heart hooded loopwheeled sweatshirt in black. Purchased about two weeks ago. Has been sitting neatly folded in a drawer for the past two weeks.

Willing to let this go for $270 flat. I'll eat the shipping and paypal fees.I prefer to ship to USA folks only. If it doesn't go in a couple of weeks i'll just keep it.
