  1. Six months or so ago in posts #42 and #58, I said here that I wanted to give LD a chance and would report back. I am now reporting back.

As some of you may have guessed, my experience was not good. I ordered three items and each was wrong in its own way. Despite many attempts to resolve the issues, nothing was resolved for any of the issues.

Item 1: I was somehow over charged by $19 on a pair of jeans. LD acknowledged this and said they'd send me a coupon code for the amount. They never did. (This pair of jeans turned out ok in terms of quality, so I just paid more than necessary.)

Item 2: All buttons holes on another pair of jeans were over cut and didn't hold the buttons in place. A quality issue. I repaired them myself and then I contacted LD just so they know to do better quality control. They said I could have sent them back for repairs.

Item 3: A shirt arrived with sleeves 2 inches longer than specification and unusually wide cuffs. LD offered to correct the sleeve length and said they would send me a return shipping label by email. 3 days, 5 days, 10 days later and still no shipping label. I have given up.

Item 4: I jumped on a shirt sale, but after the issues with items 1-3 ended badly, I simply cancelled my open order and requested a refund.  We'll see if I actually get the refund.

Many of you guys warned me. You were right. 100% of my items were wrong in some way (over charged, poor quality control, significantly off specification). And no adequate resolutions.

So that was my unfortunate experience. I say 'unfortunate' because as you can tell from my initial posts six months ago, I was optimistic and wanted LD to succeed. However, nothing worked out for me. (You may now begin with the I Told You So's and Ferrari jokes.  :)

  2. @bigblack. Nice call on the purple buttons. LD may take a while, but those semi-custom options are really nice.

Is that a standard XXL or did you get that one custom made to your size?

I'm waiting on western shirt in 12.5 oz natural cone denim. Thanks for giving me the resolve to continue waiting.

  3. It will have patch.  Same as the one used on the original 634sr and 634sraw, by the looks of pics on Hakari blog and other jp shop pictures I have seen.  It is the patch that is pictured with the flasher.

Thanks, you were correct. It has the patch. Arrived yesterday:

p.s. Thanks for the syntax example Seul.

  4. I wanted to post a pic of my new IH purchase but I'm not sure of the syntax for adding an image. What URL format do I use? A full href tag or an img tag? (I searched the Help Files already.)

  5. Speaking of the Japan-only Reprint Edition of the 21/23 634-SR, did anyone else notice the leather patch is missing in the pictures?

    See http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/rebirth/item/634sr/?s-id=borderless_browsehist_en

I wonder if that is a mistake in the picture? Maybe a photo of an incomplete sample? Or does this model not have a patch? I've never seen an IH model without a leather patch. It's one of the higher end details I like about IH...

  6. @shakeemup.

I would go TTS. Soaking is not necessary because although they are unsanforized, they have been washed once so all shrink should be out. You might confirm that the measurement table is after the one-wash but I would assume it is.

  7. An update - the Yen continues to drop dramatically against the dollar. Since July, it's dropped about 20%, and dropped 5.7% in the last month alone. It's like a daily sale as exchange rates are recalculated nightly and you can watch the price drop almost every day. (Thank you Japanese Central Bank and quantitative easing.)

November 5 prices on Rakuten (for two I'm considering).

    IH-666-XHS - $284

    666S-L 19 - $208

    December 5 prices on Rakuten

    IH-666-XHS - $268

    666S-L 19 - $196
  8. So you can't get rakuten iron heart goods shipped to USA?

It's up to the Japanese retailer to decide whether they want to ship internationally or not. There are a number that will and it's no problem to get IH goods shipped to the USA. And as I mentioned in an earlier post, the Yen continues to fall against the US dollar, so IH goods are getting cheaper every week.

  9. i'm not sure about the drape but the second picture definitely does have more of an "ass eats jeans" effect..idk i've nver worn these kind of IH pants sorry lol

Yeah, I've seen that referred to as "hungry butt" jeans. The cut could just be wrong for your body shape, or you might get one size bigger (assuming the waist still fits). I don't think "hungry butt" is designed into the pants or has anything to do with riding motorcycles.

Edit: I don't know why I can't quote the original post correctly. I meant to reply to mikka...

  10. Speaking of prices, I read in the Wall Street Journal that the Yen is at a 7 year low against the US dollar. That's good if you earn dollars and buy IH items priced in Yen.

I checked Global Rakuten to see how that Yen weakness affects prices. For example,  IH-666-XHS are down to $284 at current exchange rates. 666S-L 19 oz are down to $208.

I've never seen prices that low in years of watching...tempted to buy something I don't really need, just because it feels like bargain shopping.

  11. Might want to read Yelp before ordering anything...

    http://www.yelp.com/biz/lawless-denim-and-co-phoenix

Thanks for the review info. I jumped on the kickstarter offer before checking yelp. I'll just let it run its course.

Funny thing about average ratings. Lawless has an average rating of 3 stars, but all the feedback seems to be equally split between glowing 5 star ratings and unhappy 1 star ratings. Very little in between. The instore experiences are typically the higher rated group.

I couldn't resist jumping on the 17 oz and 18.5 oz denim that is fully customized for such short money. I'll report back as things unfold.

  12. One interesting detail about Lawless denim: they let you customize each pair of jeans. I'm surprised no one mentioned that.

They let you choose patch design, thread color, stitching details for pockets, seams, hems, button metal (copper, brass, etc) and some other details I'm forgetting now. Try getting that from any of the bigger brands. (An aside - I can't believe I'm referring to a couple Japanese companies that have a fraction of one percent of total denim market share as "bigger brands".)

Anyway, I backed a few pairs from Lawless. I can get over the typos and marketing for customized jeans made of 18.5 oz Kuroki selvedge that are under $100 and 17 oz Kaihara for under $80.

Let them prove themselves. Maybe the quality will be good. There's a lot of room in the market place for new companies, and I'd rather support them, and other new companies, than shoot them down.

  13. Hi - are you sure about the waist measurement of the 301's? Normally, a tagged 32 measures 32.5. I'm surprised the actual measurement is 30" (i.e. 2.5" smaller than the size chart). Also, are you sure the thigh measures 10? That seems impossibly small. The size chart says 11.3"

    Thanks for any additional info.

  14. well was going to order some 710xx's from big today. looks like somebody beat me to the last pair of 34's. With Dc4's unfortunate robbery, big being out, and the fact that im not real rad at navigating rakuten, any other stockists I can check out?

Rakuten isn't too difficult. I checked them for you and was going to send you a link, but none of the three retailers that advertise 710xx's have any in size 34. Sorry. Did you try Blue in Green? Oh, you said you did. Never mind.

  15. Hi mpukas,

I didn't understand "(Non-Showing outer seam selvedge)" for a while either.

Basically "Japanese Selvedge Indigo Denim (Non-Showing outer seam selvedge)" means the manufacturer wove a role of selvedge denim and they constructed jeans that don't use the the self-edge (redline) on the outer leg seam of the jeans. They used the rest of the material for the jeans but they used that selvedge (redline) for something else. Who know what - ipod covers, wallets, hats, etc. but not the leg seam of the jeans.

Is the non-showing selvedge denim the same material? Yes. Will it wear and fade the same? Yes. Is it missing that critical detail on the leg seam? Yes.

Is it less desirable? In my opinion, yes, it is less desirable. For me, selvedge denim is about the details. And the minimum requirement, in my view, is that selvedge jeans have a selvedge leg seam. They don't have to have a selvedge inner fly. They don't have to have a selvedge coin pocket or belt loop, but they must have a selvedge leg seam. These don't, so as a buyer, they are worth a little less money to me. (As you say, the jeans don't have the same "coolness factor".)
  16. I got this pair of IH301S 21oz in a size 32 and they didn't fit ;(, would anyone be interested in purchasing them from me?

I might be interested. What are the actual measurements? Also, is the leg seam selvedge? It looks like whip stitching in red.
