  1. Gotcha. I gotta get better with getting more accurate color from my scans. Over the summer I'll probably just have labs in NYC scan it for me since they can give me far better scans.

Yeah fair enough, it's quite expensive here to even have that as an option at times. Really hoping I can find a scanner soon.

want to get an x100 myself. haven't been shooting much since i got d600 (too heavy as an everyday carry)

I need an X100 haha, the D600 is just not an option to carry - or a small film camera like a Contax T2 or G2.

By the way the tones in the first photo are just flawless, the way the wood just seeps in contrast is just great.

  2. What do you scan with? I just scan the negative in Epson Scan and invert it in photoshot using color perfect. I have vuescan but every time I scan in it I get pretty shoddy results.

I don't have a scanner - which is something I need to get.

The place where I get it developed scan to disc or USB and they use Epson V700's, not 100% sure what they're colour correction software etc is but they're pretty good.

  3. @zayyarwinthein I seriously envy those tones you have in your photos. Although I shoot on portra, I can't get anywhere near what you're getting.

Wow thanks ! I need to shoot more Portra but it's impossible to get in New Zealand unless you order off eBay which I will do in a few days.

Tones wise all those photos I posted have literally no post editing whatsoever just a little bit of curves, cropping and black and white. Give Fujifilm Pro a shot !

Wakefield Hotel // Last and Loom Boot. I take the photos for all of them and have a pair myself and they are hands down the best boots I have ever worn and seen in my life.

100% Made in New Zealand using New Zealand leather, eyelets and if you'd like - rubber soles, commando soles.

You can customise every detail of the boot.

  5. Does anyone shoot medium format here? I am looking to get into it from digital. Should I shoot 35mm, or skip right to the analog big leagues?

    I have a Hasselblad 500 C/M and honestly I don't think I use enough.

Where I live a roll of 400 Portra goes for $17 NZD and developing that one roll and scanned to a disc is $18 NZD which is the cheapest I could find. It's just so costly as well as lugging it around is annoying so I leave my Hassy for particular shoots or outings.

MF is a pretty big step and personally I feel like I went into it far too quickly without knowing a lot about film in the first place whilst I was shooting 35mm, the only reason I got into MF was because I got a bargain on the Hassy so I couldn't say no.

I would without a doubt go into 35mm first and dip your toes into film, just find a cheap camera off eBay or in your granddad's attic, pick up a cheap roll of film and see what you come up with and if you like it after two rolls or so see what MF cameras you want and how much they're going to cost as well as how much you THINK you're going to use it in the long run.

  6. Clipboard is sort of cool for small prints, but reminds me of visiting manufacturing plants for work. Ideally I want something that doesn't add a border and lets the art sit alone, hence no frame.

I was at Giant Robot 2 the other day and they hang everything with regular stationary-use binder clips hanging on thumb tacks. I kind of like the ghetto-minimal approach, but over time the prints will rip, which is why I considered sleeves.

What about pinning them up ?
