  1. I just went through this exact decision a week or two ago. I didn't size down from my greasers. Instead, I took the extra .5" in the waistband because I never tuck more than an undershirt in jeans, but do tuck in a button down with the chinos. I feel like little bit of extra room keeps things looking a little cleaner in that case.

The olive duck fabric is great, by the way. Really comfortable, but stiff enough to set creases after a few wears (assuming you're going for some kind of fades over time). I gave mine a 15-minute lukewarm soak before wearing.

Thanks for the input, I appreciate it. They're rather dark, right? I've bought two different pairs of Rivet Chinos from Epaulet over the past six months or so, and neither turned out to be as dark green as I had hoped.

  2. My size 32 black maria chelseas arrived yesterday and the fit is perfection. Probably my favorite fit ever off the bat along with the s710xx. Pretty comfy in the waist, and *just* enough room through the entire leg.

The olive miner chinos are really tempting... should I be sizing down to a 31? I see the waist runs a bit bigger.

  3. Hoping somebody can give me a good tip. I bought the Strike Gold crew in grey, size medium. The fit was 100% perfect out of the box, which alarmed me but I figured I'd give it a shot. Wore it half a dozen times and then did a cold wash + hang dry and the shrink was unfortunately too much. I think I lost about 2.5 inches in body length? Too short in the body and sleeves, a tad snug in the chest, and little change in the shoulders.

I'm tempted to try a large now, but I'm also wondering if I should be looking for a sweatshirt that's gonna have a longer body off the bat (got a long torso). Ive seen people say sizing up too much makes the sweat just look sloppy. My measured chest is 38" so I'm usually between a small and a medium US. I'm just already spoiled by that awesome SG fabric...

  4. Bit of an abstract question for the 710 lovers out there: I'm torn between getting the standard 19oz now and waiting to see the details on BiG's heavier 710s in the spring. From what I've been able to piece together the 21oz denim is as top-notch as the 19oz, but I'm wondering if I'm missing the point and the 'Samurai experience' by not sticking with the 19oz my first time around. Currently working on some Strike Gold 1109s which I adore, with some some Flat Heads on the side. Nothing heavy.

If the 21oz texturally goes toe-to-toe with the 19oz but is a bit deeper blue hue, that seems ideal. Hope my question makes sense.

  5. Re: xx-013s OW that were too small:  I wore them nonstop for a couple days, but was very discouraged by the tightness around the lower thigh/knee/upper calf (couldn't really bend my legs, which just seemed silly). I sold them along for about 70% what I paid. So back to square one.

My ideal final measurements are-- waist: 31", thigh: 10.75-11", rise: 10"/13", knee: 7.5" (critical measure for me, can't do any less because of my calves). My measured inseam is just 30", so I will probably hem to about 32". The xx-013s fit fine in the waist after a couple wears, bit snug in the upper thigh, unbearable from the lower thigh down. I measured the knee at about 7.1"

Gordon suggested a 31 onewash in the xx-013 but I was very hesitant about the waist. On the other hand, the 30 onewash isn't recorded as being any wider in the knee as the 29 onewash, so I'm wondering if I would end up with similarly tight jeans that are also too loose in the top block. Right now I'm wondering if my best plan would be the xx-005 in a 30 onewash that I could have tapered later, to account for my small inseam and large-ish calves.

And again, this is close too an ideal fit for me -- enough room in the thigh, just right in the seat.

Special thanks for Al6ert for the advice. The IHs looked very nice, but I'm sort of hankering for slub right now -- I could see heavyweight in the future.

  6. Thanks no.28. Especially after reading the SF thread I figured one wash = fewer headaches, but I'm not really convinced of that anymore. Probably would have been good to see the initial fit.

Mostly I didn't want to get awful knee bags and not be able to sell them either, but it sounds like they should be okay if I'm careful. Any idea how much time wearing I can expect before they no longer look like jeggings?

  7. I've been trying to resist being 'that guy' but I'd appreciate some help from guys who know PBJs really well.

I got a pair of xx-013 in 29OW earlier this week, and they are skintight from the top thigh to the bottom of my calf. They were initially tough to button up but the waist feels like it has a ton of give. I usually take a 29 in pants (3sixteen ST-100x 29, Rogue Territory Stanton 28), and I steered away from sizing up because I read that PBJs often stretch past the original waist measure. And of course, being a dumbass, I also had these hemmed.

So I guess I need advice for how to proceed. I see my options as this:

-keep, and pray for stretch throughout the leg (very hesitant as I don't want to contort them horribly)

-try 29 raw and soak more gently

    -try 30 raw

-xx-003 (fits I have seen are very unappealing, a fit like this is much more desirable)

-xx-005  in 29 raw + aftermarket tapering (seems like my thighs might be in a vice grip if they really shrank to 10.5)

-samurai s710vx or another slightly more conservative cut from a different brand with similar denim properties

My ideal final measurements are waist 31", thigh 11", knee 7.5", hem 6.75". I'm no powerlifter but my calves don't agree with a 7" knee.
