Keep those creative juices flowing!
For years I've been trying to promote, with the hopes of elevating this cool footwear craft. I hope that some of your suggestions could inspire the Huarache craftsmen to create some new designs.
A few Huarache Artisans already make interesting and unusual designs, although mostly just for themselves and the love of the craft. Don't forget that they never went to design school, they were put to work making traditional designs. And their low income generally doesn't afford them much research and development time. Nor do they have much access to the web and the mostly english fashion blogs.
As for me I'm old school..Although I appreciate the use of molded soles, thick cordura, or canvas and snap buckles..in a kind of Y3 meets G-Star flavor..
I'm also a big leather fan, especially as traditional Huarache leather darkens with age, so its almost like the Huaraches have a life of their own.
And nothing beats the glow of Huaraches made with freshly veg tanned leather. Admitedly its very rare to come across such a shoe given the time it takes to ship the fresh leather to a factory and then to retail. But the richness of freshly vegetable tanned leather is almost like comparing a just grilled juicy steak, to a dried up cold one. Imagine a world where no one had ever seen a glistening freshly grilled steak?
Thanks for your kind words and support. Long live healthy obsessions!

Volvo fan you seem like an early adopter..Stick with it.
You're right Huaraches probably work best with denim and street wear. Below are some examples from Japan and California.
But they also work with smarter clothes like the Dolce and Gabbana Huaraches in Italy.
You can also wear them with traditional dress, or even win ultra marathons in them as Mexicans do.
Huaraches come in different shapes and sizes, like horses for courses. But real Huaraches only come from Mexico.
