  1. Aftermath time. To those that either offered a personal take WITHOUT being a dick or admitted you'd do the same—thanks. There's a reason why I don't participate much on this forum and why I'm immediately going silent again after.

Some of you (maybe your tone is assumed harsh by me) love to act like the police for retail. That's fine. But like I said before, you most definitely don't know the whole story of how I purchase denim because I have in the past, as a single guy with money to spend, chewed on a premium because I liked the shop or the people. But I'm not at that capacity anymore so I can only support the premiums with lower-cost items, and I say this, what's the point of having a budget if you go over?

To add, there have been times when I had the money to spend on denim, did my research beforehand on what I wanted, checked and re-checked measurements, measured the jeans I have that fit the best, walked into SE, asked for the exact size and model of denim I wanted according to the site's measurements and the damn shit did not fit! I don't have scrawny girl legs so sometimes it's really tough to make certain jeans work depending on the fabric. Some will stretch back out, some won't be as forgiving. I went through 3 different kinds of jeans and none fit like I really wanted them to fit and I wanted to walk out with a new pair. What then? Did I waste everyone's time because of my genetics? Do I tell the shop they're doing a piss-poor job of measuring? Not to mention AJ Chen was sitting at the desk. I actually apologized to him and the rest of the crew when I was leaving for wasting their time. He basically told me, "don't be sorry, that's why we're here." He even asked for my input on the fits of the jeans I tried on. THAT'S what keeps my business loyal to certain shops. Not anyone that harps on me the one fucking time I go rogue cause I need to be responsible. In this present case, it's either buy at budget or don't buy. That's just my personal finances right now. So if you think responding like a fucking harpee is going to solve the retail crisis, fuck you. To those that get it's not black and white, again, thanks.

    Later.

  2. Never looked into Full Count ever. So no, never heard of Okayamadenim either.

I also have 9 posts including this one, which can only suggest I don't talk/care that much and only wanted to inquire because I felt the urge to do so. Now I see that that's pointless because what, I'm a newb-ish with a budget that cannot garner a circle-jerk comment?

  3. Surfer, I have worked retail too. I understand that. I also do support local everytime I actually can. This time is an exception and there seems to be some attribution error here if the assumption is that this is my method each and every time. I'm not rich. I run on a budget and I save for what I can.

  4. Appreciate the info, Max.

Setter, I don't know what brand of chip is on your shoulder—I've bought from shops in-person even when I truly wasn't expecting to walk out with anything. I've just so happened at this point in time, to have set aside a certain amount of money to buy a new pair of denim. I walked into BiG with only browsing in mind. I walked out empty because of the price tag despite liking a pair. Then I find it for a more affordable price online. I have a budget. So sue me. Not that I owe you that at all. Sorry for living in NY.

  5. Hi folks, I'm looking into a pair of 1101s at the moment—tried on a raw pair at BiG and really like the fit a lot. I was wondering if any of you have recommendations on which site/store to buy from? I saw Okayamadenim sells for much less than BiG and I really want to buy the raw version. Okayamadenim only lists the one-wash measurements, so it kinda threw me off a bit.

Has anyone here purchased from both? And stupid question, but is there any variation that I don't know about? Specifically will there be any difference in the BiG raw sizes and the raw sizes at Okayamadenim?

  6. Hey Bobbo,

I guess that would all depend on how bad the bleed was! Since it's both dark blue and red, if it did bleed, I was expecting (at the worst) a lot of blotchiness on the outseam—like watercoloring-time outseams. If it was very minimal, and didn't bleed through to the point where you couldn't see anything on the outside part of the fabric that's actually visible, then I wouldn't care too much at all and just keep wearing them.

FYI, the hot soak is really just to shrink the waistband down a slight. It's not like the fabric needs any softening. No crunchiness here.

  7. To any owners of natural (read: natural cotton color, not natural indigo dye) selvedge denim out there, most natural selvedge seems to have a selvedge ID line that's a darker, contrasted color. In your experience, does soaking and washing in hot water cause the darker ID thread to bleed into the natural cotton?

e.g. I have a new pair of natural denim, the denim is from Cone Mills, with a dark red and blue ID line. Will the red and blue bleed out in a hot soak/wash?

    Thanks in advance.
