  1. Jackie - Man, this is actually helpful. Not annoying at all. But I should clarify cos guess the wording of my post wasn't very clear.

I own a pair of Baldwin henleys and RRL low straights. Both of these are sized up, thus the waist is big on both of them, measuring 19" (both are a tagged 34), so I probably "should" wear a 32 based off waist measurement, but there's no way my ass would fit comfortably in a size 32. I can fit a fist or two in the waist of the baldwin and RRLs with no problem. I actually like my waists to be loose, so that is not a problem, however I also wear them like this (too big) to compensate for the big ass. So my baldwins and RRLs are actually "too big", but that allows me room in the top block.

When I said I had to get rid of jeans because they mashed my cheeks together, I was talking about the 3sixteens SL, railcar and tellason. All 3 of those were a tagged 34 (tellason was a 35), and even so they were too tight in the top block despite plenty of room in the waist and "enough" room in the thigh.

Looking at the Stanton's and comparing a tagged 34 with the current measurements of my stretched out baldwins, they are very similar (Stanton's are actually roomier in the knee and hem without any stretching, but that's not where I ever have problems) but I can't tell anything about how tight the block is. Also, the baldwins I got are a 12.5oz and very stretchy (got almost 1.5" in the thigh since I bought them) versus the 14.5oz Stanton and I don't know how stretchy these are. If its at least an inch then they should be fine, leaving the only question the top block.

I will probably end up just copping these, I can always return them if they are too tight as long as I just try them on.

Again though, your reply is def helpful, I just didn't word my initial post right.

As for competing; my last meet was 10 months ago (it was my 5th meet) and I will be competing again soon, just looking at federations right now to decide where I want to go, but hopefully within the next 4 months. FYI I am 6'2" and walk around at 210-215 but compete at 198.

  2. If you have a big ass these are perfect. The high back rise and relatively lower front rise give a lot of room for a booty. I own both Stanton and sl-120x and the Stanton has way more waist and butt room.

    Sweet. Thanks man.

And do you have any idea on the stretch for these new dark Stanton's? Standard 1" rules apply?

  3. Another dreaded fit question for all you guys.

I would be very appreciative if anybody could tell me how the stantons fit in the top block/ass?? Particularly the new dark stantons. I recall somebody saying the new ones are a stretchier denim a few pages back?

I know this is kinda weird, but I'm a powerlifter (no, I'm not fat) so I have a big ass from plenty of deadlift variations and squats. I like the waist of my denim loose (baldwins and RRL both measure 19" and I can easily fit a fist in there), but I often have trouble with the top block. To give you an idea, they literally mash my butt cheeks together (oh yeah!).

I've tried 3sixteen, railcar and tellason and had to get rid of all of them for that very reason. RRL and Baldwin are both great though.

So, yeh. Anybody with any similar issues know how the stantons go in the top block? It's hard to tell simply from thigh and rise measurements.

    Thanks.

  4. Do any of you guys have some helpful, and up to date, measurements of the different RRL fits?

I have a pair of slim fit rigid from 2 years ago and a pair of slim fit roper wash (non selvedge) from this spring and there's a pretty sizeable difference between the two pairs (not sure how much of that has to do with one being rigid but according to everybody i've talked to RRL once again adjusted their sizing a few seasons ago.).

I'm not close to a retailer to try them on, but I'm trying to find some measurements, or even just comparisons, for the low straight and slim bootcut. I LOVE the fit on the slim fit but I'm looking for something with a little more room in the thigh. FWIW I was a 34 and they fit immaculately, so, any RRL heads know how the other styles fit?

I've heard the bootcut is really tame but haven't been able to find measurements other than ebay which I'm skeptical about to begin with, let alone when you don't know what season each pair is from.

    Thanks guys.

  5. Thanks man. I'll try and keep this thread updated.

I spend so much time pestering the customer service reps of denim brands and second guessing things that when I inevitably order something I HATE them with a passion for the first 2 weeks or so. I think I can finally see past that now and just look forward to how to amazing they will be when they've broken-in, softened up and stretched.

I've never really cared too much about fades and whatnot so I'm pretty excited to give these double blacks a go. After a month or so once I've figured out how these are gonna be fitting me I'll probably be ordering the shadows too.

  6. Initial fit pic's of my 220x in a size 34. Everything fits perfect right now except for the waist. Got all buttons up, the last 2 were a little bit of an effort but I think that's largely due to the button slits still being stiff more so than the waist being too small. They feel snug up top for sure but the thighs, knees etc are all so perfect that a 36 would be way too big.

If it stretches an inch like advertised they should be perfect but I'm actually hopeful I can get slightly more out of the waist and top block.

Sorry for the shitty photos. Best I could do in a 100 year old house with bad lighting during a blizzard. lol.

Much thanks to whoever I was talking to in the info@ email and super thanks to Johan for the ridiculous shipping time. I ordered these Friday afternoon and they shipped from LA and arrived to upstate NY by midday on Monday.

  7. I'm currently going back and forth emailing their customer service, they said the majority of the tee's were bought up by overseas stockists when they were first released but that they are in the process of having the sizes and photos of their available stock online by monday at the latest. As soon as I hear back about whether or not they have pocket-less XL's in black I'm ordering along with some 220x's

  8. Thank you, the 8301's looked dope til i saw the 21oz weight. With summer approaching I thought it might be a good time to get some new ones to wear in before the summer heat strikes but 21oz sounds a bit rough. Looks like 3sixteen wins again.

If I order through SE do different product ship from different areas or is everything out of SF? Reason I ask is I just moved to Western/upstate NY so I'd get it quicker if it shipped SENY. Greedy, I know.

  9. I figured this as the best place to ask this question, but I also realize there are a lot of variations and additional details that go into a vague question like this, but anyway - What would you recommend in the way of black denim? I'm leaning toward the 3sixteen double black but just wanted to here what other people have to say and what experiences people have with that particular pair.

    Thanks.

  10. Yeh mine have some real light contrasting but nothing of note. I'm OK with it though, I like them dark. I think it's mainly cos its a lighter weight fabric cos all of my creases are really soft still. Kinda curious if these will just fade like dad jeans.

  11. Yeh the 12.5 oz.

I'd say I probably got true to size in the waist. I never had problems doing up the buttons, it was snug but never an issue. But the thigh was real tight. I generally wear 34's and that's what I bought in these.

  12. Anybody have experience with Grensons?

I looked through this thread and didn't see any mention of them, and being that it's only 6 pages I can't imagine that I just missed it, but in case I did, apologies.

I'm looking to get some of the Grenson Fred V boots, I wear a 12 in most sneakers (Nike, Gourmet, Supra etc) and am 11.5 in Timberlands and Cole Haan. All Grensons are listed in UK sizing which seems to generally be equivalent to 1 size up in US (ie/ UK 10 = US 11). Anyway, I'm wondering if anybody has experience with their sizing, particularly the boots. Their customer service just directed me to the FAQ on their website which isn't helpful.

  13. Just wanted to give an update on how the fit has evolved.

    Waist has stretched 1.2"

Thigh stretched 1.5" (They were like lycra at first, that's why the stretched so much)

    Knee stretched 1"

Leg opening stretched .5" (Cos I wore high tops with the cuff over, and they got stretched. It wouldn't have happened if i just stacked them or stuck with lows)

All in all, these things are ridiculously comfortable right now. This is after 41 wears and I can't believe how they KEEP getting softer and softer. As much as I was worried about the rise feeling too low and stiff at first they have stretched and softened to fit EXACTLY how I wanted them too. There's some slight fading and contrasting going on, but not a ton after only 41 wears, mostly just light wear as well.

  14. Well they've had 7 days of wear. Mostly around the house and park chasing my son, so lots of bending and squatting and crawling come with the territory. After seven days everything about them is great, I'm still not 100% sure about the rise. It's definitely softened up in the crotch but I'm hoping the 3sixteens will have a higher rise (measurements say rise is 1" higher, hopefully that's enough).

Anyway, these Henleys are fucking great. Already as soft as my worn in unbranded, honeycombs and whiskers are already starting to set too. I feel like these are gonna be amazing after like 2 or 3 months.

  15. I've tried searching, but haven't been able to find anything. So I figured I'd ask here.

Is there any way to "set" indigo. Like if after 2 months you figure the fading is perfect, is there any way to essentially stop any further fading?

Alternatively, can anybody recommend a permanent indigo type denim (preferably selvedge). The only options I've been able to find are some J Crew washed denim that are pretty much a perfect raw indigo colour (but the fit is slimmer than I'm looking for and not selvedge), some triple dyed Iron Hearts that don't appear to be available anymore and some Rag + Bone that are probably too pre-faded. I know it's a weird question for a raw denim blog. But I basically want a pair of soft selvedge that will always have the pure dark indigo look on them for times when worn-in denim isn't really appropriate.

  16. ^^^

Were these the ones that were 8 months old but only had about 2-3 months of wear on them?

I found some shots of the Shadows (i think on the 3sixteen tumblr) like that. Any idea if the new run is any different to these?

  17. So I decided to wait until Octoberish to get the SL's, but since Self Edge is having this sale I might just grab them now. Are there any more wear pics of the SL-200's floating around, or even the shadow's?

All I can find of the 200's is the lookbook (which look pretty awesome), and I haven't found anything for the shadows.
