  1. Excuse the stupid question, but well, I am a little stupid... and also curious.

Would it be possible to make a Donna cut (or similar) in non-stretch, selvedge denim? I don't mean a custom pair for me, I just wonder if it's doable or if the properties of the cut makes it difficult.

Everywhere I look, the high waist-ish fits with slim legs come in stretch denim. The swedish brand Pace did a non-stretch version of their hi-rider a few years back. I loved that jean and wore it to pieces, literally, but the next year's version had stretch in it and it wasn't the same. I do understand that stretch is more comfortable for most, but if the thighs are cut generously enough I think it should work without.

Edit: I don't mean super skin tight, more like a Viper with a higher waist, slim but not stuffed sausage, fitted.

  2. If my current slimmest denims are measuring 11.5 and are Completley hugging my leg will these be too tight after a soak? I'm wondering weathe to size down on a pair of s5000vx instead?

    What you guys recommend?

Based on my experience with just this one pair I would say yes, the 710s will be too tight after soaking.

  3. I just got a pair of 710s in a sz. 30. Quite tight when I tried them on raw, but I figured that being a girl I can get away with some tightness and decided to keep them. The weight and stiffness also made them feel tighter than they actually were according to measurements.

I soaked twice, the last time while wearing them. The thighs now measure a little less than 11.4" and I think there's some shrinkage left still. Again, it's not comparable since the female form is different, but my waist is 28" and I measure about 31.5" around the point where these jeans hit, and there's absolutely no way I could have sized down on account of my thighs and hips.

Edit/additional info: After three days of wear the waist and top block have loosened up quite a bit and I can wear the jeans a little lower (half an inch, maybe), which means there's a little more room (or the impression of a little more room) in the upper thigh.

  4. anyone have recommendations for a raw jean with a curvy cut? I'm looking for an 11.5" thigh if 100% cotton or 11"-11.5" with stretch at a size 29 or 30. Measurements are 27.5" natural waist, 33" upper hips (about where jeans would sit on average), 38.5" hips, and 22.5-23" thighs. In prewashed denim I have to buy curvy cuts for the waist to not gape in the back. Every pair of raw denim I've come across seems tailored to a more slim fit, or at least not a curvy one. Sling & Stones Delilah is the only thing that looks large enough from the size chart, but I'd prefer a straight leg and under $200.

I'm also 5'9" so i'd want a 34 inseam (to get some stacking)

We have almost the exact same measurements and height, but I'm slightly less curvy than you are. My thighs are just as big though, and obviously the main factor in sizing right.

Jeans that have worked for me are Levi's Vintage 501s, Imperial Shearers (they fit pretty great in the thigh, roomy without looking roomy, but the rise is hiiiiiigh), various APC jeans (although the waist always fits too big when the thighs are right), and most recently a pair of Samurai 710s. I went for a 30, should have gotten a 31, but I can squeeze into them after a hot soak and wash and I think they will work well after some wear.

  5. What does the waist measure in at, out of curiosity? I'm a girl, so judging sizes for online purchasing is rough. I don't know my waist size, womens jeans don't work like that LOL and it all depends on how I wear them. If I sag a bit, 28". Natural waist? Probably 26". Damned if I know. I'll be measuring a few different pairs of jeans when I get home to try and ballpark it. But, anyone have size 24/25/26 in NS,PS or NC and wouldn't mind measuring em up?

yess..I know. The dreaded sizing questions. But it's more complicated for us wimminz. And the search function isn't very helpful when it wont let me search for just "26" etc :(

I might be able to help. I'm a girl and I do own new standards in two different sizes, a pair of new cures and I also have a petit new standard coming my way in the mail as we speak. I do have a bigger waist size than you (natural 28-29", where I wear my jeans ≈31") and I am pretty tall, but let me know if you still want measurements or comparisons to other brands.

My thighs are normally the problem when it comes to slim(-ish) jeans. My new cures are three sizes bigger than my smallest new standards to accomodate for that, and they still fit a lot slimmer in the seat and thighs. The waist is quite roomy on all of them though, but as you probably know from reading this thread; the waist has crazy stretch.

  6. Please excuse the newbie request (I actually had an account here before, but I have forgotten the password and disabled the email connected to it long time ago) but could anyone with lot 14 S710XX in a size 30 provide some post-soak (and preferably post-several washes) measurements of the thigh?

I have searched the thread without result. I have rather athletic thighs and I'm afraid I just bought a pair of jeans that are too snug in that area... Got caught up in the moment. Oh, well.

    Thanks!

Edit: Don't worry, just found the measurements below from earlier this year. Ooooops, looks like I might be in trouble here. 11.2 can work, but the thighs will be skin tight and I'm not sure that's the look I'm going for with these.

Seems to me like a lot of shrinkage from a pre-soak measurement of 11.75 (according to BiG), after just one hot soak?

Sorry for the crappy phone pics. these are post soak pics of s710xx size 30 after a days of wear. i am glad b_f & rosenkreuz told me to size down 2 on my previous size 32 (fit pics looked horrible) :D

no pre soak pics or measurements, sorry! i soaked them for over an hour with hot water.

*post soak measurements ( 1 day of wear)

    Waist 30

    Front rise 10.6

    Back rise 14.2

    Upper thigh 11.2

    Knee 8.5

    Leg opening 7.7

    Inseam 37.4

  7. Looks like there's a new model, Petit New Standard, at Oi Polloi. Tried to search for it here without result, sorry if it's been posted before. Judging by the measurements it looks very interesting, as I would love a NS with more taper, a PS with a slightly higher rise, or an NC with fuller thighs.
